"The Lazy Song" is terrible but i'm taking some comfort in the arrival of a Bruno Mars single that i can't imagine shooting to #1

corkslovetoscrew (some dude), Sunday, 27 March 2011 16:18 (fifteen years ago)

btw i'd like to be the first person on ILM to mention Christina Perri's "Jar Of Hearts" since it has yet to be rightfully singled out as one of the most horrible and inexplicable chart hits in recent memory

corkslovetoscrew (some dude), Sunday, 27 March 2011 16:23 (fifteen years ago)

Oh man! I am not a rolling pop regular, but I wanted to be that person! I've meant to post about that song for at least a month. She seems like she was grown in a petri dish, but the song's not THAT bad. It's not as bad as that song that samples "Old Man".

Ralpharina (La Lechera), Sunday, 27 March 2011 17:05 (fifteen years ago)

wouldn't a pop star grown in a petri dish have a good voice and maybe no skunk hair? the song really is THAT bad imo.

corkslovetoscrew (some dude), Sunday, 27 March 2011 17:09 (fifteen years ago)

agreed re: "roll up." i can see why people might call it a slight song, but to me it sounds perfect for this time of year

heard that bruno mars song on the radio for the first time the other day, cringed at the lyric about having sex in the morning or whatever

teledyldonix, Sunday, 27 March 2011 17:38 (fifteen years ago)

good point
still, the song that samples "old man" is worse

Ralpharina (La Lechera), Sunday, 27 March 2011 17:43 (fifteen years ago)

even tho i should identify with the bruno mars song there's something that's really smug & repelling about it

wavy g. wavegarten (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 27 March 2011 17:58 (fifteen years ago)

well there is or should be a lot more to enjoying music than identifying with it, no worries there

corkslovetoscrew (some dude), Sunday, 27 March 2011 17:59 (fifteen years ago)

4 straight number ones for KP

J0rdan S., Thursday, 31 March 2011 20:40 (fifteen years ago)

also t-pain can thank #teambreezy for his finally getting a song off 'revolver' into the top 40

J0rdan S., Thursday, 31 March 2011 20:43 (fifteen years ago)

I'm so glad that the Guetta dance-pop sound and the ideas of chopped-and-screwed have finally come together, especially with Nadia Oh using this as a vehicle to beat Cassie at her own game

o0o00h really? (boxedjoy), Thursday, 31 March 2011 22:34 (fifteen years ago)

tonight was the first night i heard "e.t." blasting out of a car window -- this is my litmus test for whether i can consider a #1 single 'legitimate' so i guess it was juuuuust in time

teledyldonix, Friday, 1 April 2011 03:58 (fifteen years ago)

i'm not quite sure why ppl bought that particular wiz khalifa song en masse, i don't like it as much as his others

teledyldonix, Friday, 1 April 2011 03:59 (fifteen years ago)

yeah idgi

J0rdan S., Friday, 1 April 2011 04:04 (fifteen years ago)

I heard this for the first time the other day and think it is an absolute jam.

not in any way shape or form, literally or figuratively, no

dayo technology (some dude), Friday, 1 April 2011 13:24 (fifteen years ago)

I really like the Nadia Oh song! Probably the best bit of royal wedding paraphernalia there'll be.

oppet, Friday, 1 April 2011 20:14 (fifteen years ago)

Not to derail the thread but this is my favourite bit of royal wedding merch so far:

Uteruses Before Duderuses (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 01:18 (fifteen years ago)

i like the song "grenade" by bruno mars

flopson, Thursday, 7 April 2011 15:59 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, it's not too bad

markers, Thursday, 7 April 2011 16:00 (fifteen years ago)

was at my dads yesterday & read the newyorker sfj thing on him, it was really good, kind of abt how he is plain in the most universally palatable way which sounds like a dis but acknowledges thats its somehow kind of undeniable

flopson, Thursday, 7 April 2011 16:47 (fifteen years ago)

"look at me now" is officially chris brown's biggest hit in 3 years

J0rdan S., Friday, 8 April 2011 08:46 (fifteen years ago)

the fact that chris brown has a hit makes me too depressed to even finish typi

★ The Pistns ★ Miss You Sheed ★ (dayo), Friday, 8 April 2011 14:11 (fifteen years ago)

"she ain't you" is decent for a new chris brown song, but mainly because it's a "right here/human nature" rehash and i've been on a swv tip lately

flow (chilli), Friday, 8 April 2011 16:31 (fifteen years ago)

i probably never would have bothered listening to that song, but i cannot possibly ignore anything related in any way to "right here/human nature"

... and yeah, it is exactly the same. it might as well not exist.

i like "look at me now" so i'm glad that ended up being his first top 10 hit in however long

teledyldonix, Friday, 8 April 2011 17:53 (fifteen years ago)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ6zr6kCPj8

is there a special reason why this song is doing so well in the uk right now

teledyldonix, Monday, 11 April 2011 19:16 (fifteen years ago)

maybe people kept watching the video waiting for Cillian Murphy to show up?

borkslovethewu (some dude), Monday, 11 April 2011 20:56 (fifteen years ago)

First (official) single from new girlband Soundgirl, out June (I think). Sort of how I wanted the last Rihanna album to sound:

http://x2fr.tumblr.com/post/4695716516/more-info-here

And yes, it is practically a re-production of Carly Simon's "Why"... still dope tho.

daavid, Monday, 18 April 2011 23:07 (fifteen years ago)

think im going to download the bruno mars album

flopson, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 05:16 (fifteen years ago)

damn @ k'naan having a writing credit on "the lazy song"

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 19 April 2011 05:22 (fifteen years ago)

i h8 the lazy song do u generally like k'naan tho? waving flag is frontrunner worst song of the decade imo

flopson, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 05:32 (fifteen years ago)

i've never heard a k'naan song

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 19 April 2011 05:33 (fifteen years ago)

i hate "the lazy song" too, just pushes the wrong buttons for me -- it's weird cuz i think it's a fine concept for a song & the lyrics are actually kinda funny but idk the celebratory nature of the whole thing really gives me the wrong vibe -- also the faux-reggae train/jason mraz genre is something i really despise

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 19 April 2011 05:40 (fifteen years ago)

i think "grenade" is really great tho

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 19 April 2011 05:40 (fifteen years ago)

me 2

flopson, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 05:50 (fifteen years ago)

lol i thought this had been bumped because of the new beyoncé single - come on people. i'll start a new thread

I kind of like this... a lot? though it sounds like 10 other songs.

The Brainwasher, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 20:33 (fifteen years ago)

That Vendela song is the best pop song I've heard so far this year #postsverymuchincharacter

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 21 April 2011 00:05 (fifteen years ago)

"down on me" is officially a bigger hit than "birthday sex"

J0rdan S., Saturday, 23 April 2011 03:44 (fifteen years ago)

I still (unfairly) think of this guy as a one-hit wonder tho.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Saturday, 23 April 2011 05:39 (fifteen years ago)

Genuine LOL earlier when I spotted that "Fast Car" is set to go top 5 in the UK this weekend, til I realised that was probably just some Britain's Got Talent thing.

Wretch 32 sampling the Stone Roses is also #2 at present.

William Bloody Swygart, Sunday, 24 April 2011 01:23 (fifteen years ago)

I was really excited for a moment when I thought that meant The-Dream rather than Tracy Chapman.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Sunday, 24 April 2011 01:32 (fifteen years ago)

Actually, the UK album charts are lots of fun, especially in midweek. Not sure is weirder - Explosions in the Sky in the top 40 or Jamie Woon in the top 10. Metronomy had a top 40 album last week. Men'al.

William Bloody Swygart, Sunday, 24 April 2011 01:42 (fifteen years ago)

kinda confused about the wretch 32 single doing so well, i much prefer his last one

teledyldonix, Sunday, 24 April 2011 18:42 (fifteen years ago)

this song is kinda fucking massive
