2011 Rolling Black Metal thread

Listening to this now and it's damn weird and experimental

Neige Morte are an obscure entity from Lyon, France, creating an icy and oppressive hypothermic musical blast. Ponderous and bizarre passages of atmospheric sound crack and give way plunging the listener into frozen riffs as they are carried off by the post-Black Metal current tearing through the heart of Neige Morte.
The cruel and nihilistic aesthetic chimes with much of the output of the French underground scene as does the experimental edge found in the five tracks served on this debut platter. Difficult to categorize neatly, Neige Morte are merely interested in engulfing the listener in the slow embrace of frozen death.

Listening to the new Blut aus Nord now. Not bad. Some parts sound like Scorn. I think as weird French BM goes, I prefer Spektr, though.

Not heard Spektr, which of theirs should I start with?

It's one of the dudes from BONE AWL (the drummr iirc?), and not too far off in terms of atmosphere, but definitely more of a punk / crust / oi kinda vibe. More melodic, if I dare use that word. Very, very cool. I think there are some Youtube clips...

Well, I'm pro blasphemy, sure. Revenge is kind of pointless, most of the time. But I love both the bands and am always pro-angry Canadians.

I mean, blasphemy's pointless, too. But you get some good albums out of it.

Wrote a review of it today for The Wire. It's not bad at all. In fact, it's quite good. Definitely in a Michael-Gira-collaborating-with-Coil vein, but I don't have a problem with that.

AG: I don't know if Gnaw Their Tongues are releasing new material this year or not but Mories has a BM group called De Magia Veterum who have a new album coming out called The Divine Anthithesis and it is mad caustic and has overtones of Celeste, Abruptum and Omega Deathspell. It gave me a really bad headache the first time I listened to it but I really like it now.
