The Perfect Lullaby is fuckin' A+, although nothing beats their Ciara remix for me at the moment. Looped "Boy is Mine" harp, the Ashanti/Pura Inspiracao bit is also v. good. Suspect that this will be in heavy rotation all summer.

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill The Radio Star (Alex in Montreal), Wednesday, 23 March 2011 21:38 (fifteen years ago)

Their forthcoming (I assume) single "Timesup" is deployed to great effect in both Kingdom's XLR8R mix and their European promo mix: http://www.discobelle.net/2011/03/17/nguzunguzu-euro-promo-mix/

Go see them if you have the chance. Considering a trip to LA just to go to their monthly with Kingdom and Total Freedom.

No this is not that but it's still very good in a different way.

good that 112 edit is still unclaimed

so fly zone (D-40), Saturday, 26 March 2011 04:30 (fifteen years ago)

Thought the dis mix was really beautiful, but wasn't expecting so much cumbia beat. Euro mini mix's energy is killing me this morning.

Is this mix still live? Can't download now. On my phone.

Did they do the M.I.A. vicki leaks mix? Their name is on some of the graphics I've seen for it, but not sure what role they had.

Moodles, Monday, 28 March 2011 16:21 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, the implication seemed to be that they mixed vicki leakx. the leftover /\/\/\Y/\ tracks were produced by Diplo and Switch and the usual gang but the mix and some of the interstitials and the newer stuff was nguzunguzu. also they are her new tour djs?

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill The Radio Star (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 28 March 2011 16:59 (fifteen years ago)

asma from nguzunguzu was the dj for MIA's last tour

lex pretend, Monday, 28 March 2011 17:00 (fifteen years ago)

They'd be a much better fit for MIA than fucking Rusko.

Matt DC, Monday, 28 March 2011 17:01 (fifteen years ago)

asma is her tour dj and thusly working on production stuff too. think i mentioned it in another thread that when she was hired i called it that mia would probably start making good music again after maya. fun fact: she got hired because a mutual friend was sort of "hey you're southeast asian and so is m.i.a. and she needs an assistant so you should hook up", and hung around long enough for m.i.a. to notice she's got sweet musical chops.

fauxmarc, Monday, 28 March 2011 17:13 (fifteen years ago)

yeah the nicki minaj part of that mix is still such a OMG moment for me

- diddy/dirty money "sade" - in full - into a bounce remix of "cherish the day"
- nicki minaj's "best i ever had" verse over wiley's "ice rink"
- yummy bingham, ciara, dj kay slay, "is that yo bitch", diamond "lotta money"...

We named ourselves NGUZUNGUZU after a type of wooden canoe prow carving from the Solomon Islands. We liked the name firstly for its phonetics, when repeated rapidly it sounds like a digeridoo. And the idea of this guiding figure on our craft of sonic explorations. Something like a beacon, a navigational tool, a compass that points us in various directions.

looking for that post led me to this Moments in Love mix which I don't think has been mentioned in this thread yet: http://www.negrophonic.com/2010/moments-in-mixtape/. Not as wonderful as Perfect Lullaby but good.

rob, Monday, 9 May 2011 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

they made for really boring/reticent interview subjects on /rupture's radio show, but some of the tunes were great, esp. near the end.

Can anyone point me toward any other 'zouk' mixes? Preferably with 'zouk' remixes of rnb tunes like the-dream one in a perfect lullaby.

This was my fav mix of theirs. Heartbroken / Moments in Love track was great. Is that an actual mix or did they just create that for the dj set?

The T-Pain, Future, and MJB remixes! Also the Mariah one , but I've heard it before.

imago draggin' (The Reverend), Thursday, 20 February 2014 03:38 (twelve years ago)

I definitely like how back to basics this is compared to their recent output.

imago draggin' (The Reverend), Thursday, 20 February 2014 03:39 (twelve years ago)

I spent about half the remix thinking, damn, what if they both picked up the harp and started wearing doublets

(In the best possible way of course)

, Thursday, 20 February 2014 05:04 (twelve years ago)

This is the closest I ever get to appreciating anything that can be even loosely associated with reggaeton.

Amazing mix, so good.

MikoMcha, Thursday, 20 February 2014 21:12 (twelve years ago)

so relieved by this mix, best thing they've done since the first perfect lullaby

MikoMcha, Thursday, 20 February 2014 21:57 (twelve years ago)

They did a mix a few years ago that had a killer mashup of Moments in Love. Does anyone remember what that was specifically and whether it's available as a standalone mp3?

brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 20 February 2014 22:10 (twelve years ago)

|$̲̅(̲̅ιοο̲̅)̲̅$̲̅| (gr8080), Thursday, 20 February 2014 22:40 (twelve years ago)

I have that mix but this one mashup was just 1 song in a mix, not every song in the mix mashed with Moments in Love. I'll just add their mixes to my mp3 player again and see if I can find it to be more specific about the other song that was mixed with MiL. Thanks for the link though. I've got the mix on now and it's adding some fun to my afternoon lull.

brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 20 February 2014 22:58 (twelve years ago)

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 21 February 2014 15:52 (twelve years ago)

I just got to the Enigma drop on this and laughed out loud at it on the bus.

The annoying thing is that I'd been assuming for years that the original Perfect Lullaby was a fluke and yet it appears that all this time they've been actively choosing NOT to play beatific sparkly My Little Pony R&B zouk shit and that really is inexcusable.

Matt DC, Friday, 21 February 2014 17:51 (twelve years ago)
