when i was a junior in hs i worked a summer w/ inner city youth & the black american kids treated the haitian kids really terribly -- kids will be kids etc but i have to imagine that it's a top-down thing

I never encountered it until college; it was really eye-opening/disheartening.

i didn't come to nyc until I was 25 and had been in a pretty much monochrome/hetero/bible belt environment prior, so all that stuff flew over my head no doubt cuz HOLY SHIT THAT GUY IS SMOKING A JOINT IN PUBLIC AND THAT GUY IS KISSING A GUY AND THEY'RE SELLING NUTS IN THE STREETS AND THAT GUY'S DREADS ARE DOWN TO HIS KNEES GOSH THE BUILDINGS SURE AM TALL

I had never even heard of him prior to this beatdown thing and this has been such a media feeding-frenzy that of COURSE he is gonna have a comeback. Don't you guys pay any attention at all to how media narratives work? It goes - rise to stardom>>triumph>>fall from grace>>redemption/comeback

wow didn't know that abt chris's past. i was also annoyed by how there's been no real contrition and can't listen to his new stuff without feeling creeped out. but... i do feel for him too.

"I just want to say that this guy is SHOCKINGLY DUMB — like, can't-speak-in-complete-sentences dumb. When I edited his interviews at MTV I was consistently amazed by his sub-third-grade vocabulary.
