Ryan, i dont know anything about those bands, first ive even heard of them, heh
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 17:13 (fifteen years ago)
I've only checked out that BTC comp "Worship Black Twilight." It's pretty solid. I've been meaning to check out more Ashdautas and Volahn. There's a really good crusty d-beat band in that circle whose name has escaped me. I found their demo trolling through the blogs and it really hit me hard.
― Brooker T Buckingham, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 17:18 (fifteen years ago)
i know its probably not quite the correct thread, but has anyone heard the more recent Blue Sabbath Black Cheer stuff? I don't recall any chat on the rolling metal thread about them. I figured this is as good a place as anywhere to ask. Bimble was into them hehe. He was the only one whoever chatted about them. Sure miss him.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 17:48 (fifteen years ago)
yeah I do too; I'd love to get into some BSBC
― Destroy A. Monsters (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 17:56 (fifteen years ago)
I have quite a few tapes and a couple of vinyls but stan just keeps releasing so much stuff and with the exchange rate + postage from usa doubling a year or two ago, it just became impossible to keep up.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 18:01 (fifteen years ago)
Bimble loved Borre Fen if you want to hear something he would have recommended if he was still alive.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 18:02 (fifteen years ago)
he liked a good few other ones but i cant remember offhand which ones
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 18:03 (fifteen years ago)
oh yeah he loved this one too

he had a blog post about how goth they were and stan posted about it on forever doomed and i told him how i knew him and was the one he referred to in the article (a scottish friend who introduced them to BSBC)
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 18:05 (fifteen years ago)
brooker i replied to your webmail btw
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 18:42 (fifteen years ago)
anybody else find j. bennett's Fallen review in the April dB a little...um...odd, maybe? i mean, a Vincent-fucking-Price comparison? like, c'mon, dude!
― Ioannis, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 19:57 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, it's another rather cautious review.
― A. Begrand, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:06 (fifteen years ago)
i dunno--he sez Belus was his fave 2010 release, so...? i just found his overall critique somewhat beside the point, i guess. still haven't listened to the new one, tho, so what do i know?
― Ioannis, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:12 (fifteen years ago)
Is it online? Decibel doesn't cross over the atlantic. Not even to subscribers in ireland iirc
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:36 (fifteen years ago)
not online, i don't think.
― Ioannis, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 21:14 (fifteen years ago)
Way xpost: "Are the Black Twilight Circle bands from LA on anyone's radar?"
Fuck, yes, and available youtube footage suggests they can deliver that super-necro LLN sound live.
― Soukesian, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 21:21 (fifteen years ago)
just about to play the Blut Aus Nord now, any thoughts on it yet brooker?
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 22:06 (fifteen years ago)
I haven't listened yet! Hopefully tonight. Thanks for the message. I'll respond shortly!
― Brooker T Buckingham, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 23:32 (fifteen years ago)
ok cool!
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 00:04 (fifteen years ago)
"they can deliver that super-necro LLN sound live"
That Volahn live album was a lo-fi step to far for me though. Heard a bunch of other BTC that's pretty great though (all downloaded from blogs...gettng hold of this stuff, even if you send them money, seems to be tricky)
― Wandering Boy Poet, Wednesday, 23 March 2011 14:03 (fifteen years ago)

Listening to this now and it's damn weird and experimental
Neige Morte are an obscure entity from Lyon, France, creating an icy and oppressive hypothermic musical blast. Ponderous and bizarre passages of atmospheric sound crack and give way plunging the listener into frozen riffs as they are carried off by the post-Black Metal current tearing through the heart of Neige Morte. The cruel and nihilistic aesthetic chimes with much of the output of the French underground scene as does the experimental edge found in the five tracks served on this debut platter. Difficult to categorize neatly, Neige Morte are merely interested in engulfing the listener in the slow embrace of frozen death.Tracklisting:01 - Reflexe Post- Mortem 10:4902 - Tout Sonne Faux 6:5303 - Need Some Air 2:2404 - Fausse Victime Vrai Bourreaux 6:3305 - Bourbier 5:03RunningTime: 31:40
RunningTime: 31:40
Roxy seems to dig it iirc

Listening to the new Blut aus Nord now. Not bad. Some parts sound like Scorn. I think as weird French BM goes, I prefer Spektr, though.
― that's not funny. (unperson), Friday, 25 March 2011 17:42 (fifteen years ago)
Not heard Spektr, which of theirs should I start with?
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 25 March 2011 18:26 (fifteen years ago)
Near Death Experience.

ok cheers, will d/l it and let you know
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 25 March 2011 22:06 (fifteen years ago)
It's one of the dudes from BONE AWL (the drummr iirc?), and not too far off in terms of atmosphere, but definitely more of a punk / crust / oi kinda vibe. More melodic, if I dare use that word. Very, very cool. I think there are some Youtube clips...
― If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Friday, 25 March 2011 23:57 (fifteen years ago)
not a fan of oi but i do like bone awl so i might give it a listen if i can find it
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 26 March 2011 00:17 (fifteen years ago)
just put Spektr on and I love that drum sound
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 26 March 2011 00:55 (fifteen years ago)
Nuclear War Now is doing a 2LP or 2CD reissue of everything Conqueror did. If you want to hear the missing link between Blasphemy and Revenge. The bands, not the concepts.
― GLOWER METAL (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 26 March 2011 05:04 (fifteen years ago)
you dislike the concepts?
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 27 March 2011 00:15 (fifteen years ago)
Well, I'm pro blasphemy, sure. Revenge is kind of pointless, most of the time. But I love both the bands and am always pro-angry Canadians.
― GLOWER METAL (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 27 March 2011 00:39 (fifteen years ago)
I mean, blasphemy's pointless, too. But you get some good albums out of it.
― GLOWER METAL (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 27 March 2011 00:40 (fifteen years ago)
Ulver album has leaked!

Wrote a review of it today for The Wire. It's not bad at all. In fact, it's quite good. Definitely in a Michael-Gira-collaborating-with-Coil vein, but I don't have a problem with that.

I have gradually come to the realization that I totally respect Ulver, I just am not much into what they do these days.
― GLOWER METAL (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 27 March 2011 07:08 (fifteen years ago)
fair enough, I am though!
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Sunday, 27 March 2011 16:14 (fifteen years ago)
Ulver's last.fm shoutbox is full of people complaining it's not black metal. After all this time wtf did they expect?
