da croupier, Monday, 21 March 2011 16:23 (fifteen years ago)

I was there, they def overreacted. Kinda moving from cool punk brattiness to Axl Rose diva bullshit with that move imo.

hey jelixy (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 21 March 2011 16:29 (fifteen years ago)

i feel bad for them that they so clearly want to perform for regular kids and real fans but have been taken hostage by the music business and allowed to only play shows at industry/media-heavy events and cities

some dude, Monday, 21 March 2011 16:32 (fifteen years ago)

It's what happens when you reach the top of the mountain.

slug from atm0sphere made a post on philaflav the other day about how these guys should make sure to bring their own sound guy bcuz of stuff like this

D-40, Monday, 21 March 2011 16:50 (fifteen years ago)

good advice for any performing artist anywhere

I just want to give a shout-out to Buzzy Beetles (forksclovetofu), Monday, 21 March 2011 16:54 (fifteen years ago)

yah he was on some ms cleo ish about this happening

D-40, Monday, 21 March 2011 16:57 (fifteen years ago)

xpot This makes me wonder about their financial situation if they can afford to have a sound guy with them at all times. I mean since they have the image of DIY one of them can do it. But a lot of artists have had this incident happened. Anticipating 100 blog posts of Odd Future losing it in the next couple of days about this.

Okay Pet Shop Boys Aren't That Bad. (lilsoulbrother), Monday, 21 March 2011 16:59 (fifteen years ago)

from today's Pfork interview:

Another song on the album is called "Fish", and the whole vibe of it is crazy. I'm talking about being a fisherman but the words I use and the way I put it makes people think like I'm talking about getting girls, raping 'em, having 'em in my basement. Crazy shit like that. But I'm really talking about being a fisherman.

while we're repping alternarock faves of the 1990s, i just realized that the beat for Yonkers sounds like the intro to "Jizzlobber" by Faith No More

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 14:08 (fifteen years ago)

LOL

the beginning of the pfork interview is really earnest in an endearing way

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 17:44 (fifteen years ago)

Didn't see this posted above (tho god knows coulda missed it), but with the caveats that a.) this is posted on POETRYFOUNDATION.ORG and b.) it references actual Futurism and Mayakovsky, it's really kinda good:

http://www.poetryfoundation.org/journal/article.html?id=241404

The Odd Future bunch never mistake acting nuts for actually being nuts, and what makes their music so easy to excuse, and enjoy, is the sense of living, breathing kids underneath all the ugliness. If not by design, this is at least a convenient way to retain some sense of perspective—for artist and listener alike. Their insanity is infectious, the candor just a little too human, even relatable, to ever be fully mistaken for a twisted unconscious. At the same time, the sophistication that informs much of OFWGKTA’s output clearly marks them as children of a particular Los Angeles scene. They are, at once, wacky skaters whose antics are solidly in the Big Brother/Jackass tradition, and aesthetic terrorists who know that filth isn’t just fun—it’s also, when employed in the most dispassionate, pastiche-driven way imaginable, its own kind of creative mischief-making. OFWGKTA isn’t looking to shock audiences—they’re out to show off their own desensitization.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:30 (fifteen years ago)

bethlehem shoals = best writer

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:32 (fifteen years ago)

OFWGKTA isn’t looking to shock audiences—they’re out to show off their own desensitization.

based on the minuscule exposure I've had to these guys, this seems super OTM

ancient, but very sexy (DJP), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:33 (fifteen years ago)

yah good points being made, they're extremely pomo

I just want to give a shout-out to Buzzy Beetles (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:34 (fifteen years ago)

yes that sentence seems like some sort first nail on the head moment

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:34 (fifteen years ago)

seems like their own desensitization would result in shocked audiences - it's kinda circular imo

ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:35 (fifteen years ago)

"look at earl! he's imbibing all sorts of drugs! look at him talk about rape and death! he's only 16 btw!"

***shocked audiences everywhere***

ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:36 (fifteen years ago)

um yeah i think they have shocked a lot of ppl & probably will shock more ppl as they continue to get bigger

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:36 (fifteen years ago)

congrats on conflating "effect" with "intent"

ancient, but very sexy (DJP), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

right, but does it really matter if it's effect or intent?

i mean, my intent may not have been to spill a glass of red wine on the carpet-- my intent was to reach for the TV remote and change the channel-- but once the wine's been spilled, the end effect is the same as if i had intentionally spilled the wine

ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:48 (fifteen years ago)

wait did you change the channel or not

Hyper Rescue Troop (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:51 (fifteen years ago)

once i heard odd future, yes

ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:51 (fifteen years ago)

i don't even

*puts on headphones, goes back to listening to metal*

ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:55 (fifteen years ago)

don't feel bad, ilxor, i remember when i foolishly tried to suggest that the marketability of OF's shock value might be an interesting thing to talk about

just woke up (lukas), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 20:57 (fifteen years ago)

ilxor's problem isn't that his points are stupid (tho they are) but that his style of argument is incredibly childish

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 21:54 (fifteen years ago)

his style of argument

aka "whiney lite"

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 21:55 (fifteen years ago)

right, but does it really matter if it's effect or intent?

It matters if you are analyzing their work, which is what that poetry site was doing.

ancient, but very sexy (DJP), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 21:56 (fifteen years ago)

whiney argues like an adult most of the time

blingee cummings (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 21:56 (fifteen years ago)

different intent, same effect, who cares xp

whiney argues like an adult most of the time

???? o_O

ancient, but very sexy (DJP), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 22:01 (fifteen years ago)

seriously tho, OFWGKTA are shocking ppl, does it really matter how they go about it? i dont think so
