I'm digging that Deafheaven that someone posted on RM 2011.

Agree with all on the Fen. They are great at atmosphere.

Negative Plane hasn't hit me yet, but I've only listened a couple of times. Think you need to steep in their sound for awhile before it sinks in.

Anyone heard the Ash Eaters demo yet? Brown Jenkins guy doing something new. That might be cool.

Brooker T Buckingham, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:20 (fifteen years ago)

I think this thread is a great idea, btw. Didn't seem like there was a whole lot of interest in BM on the RM thread.

Brooker T Buckingham, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:20 (fifteen years ago)

haven't heard it yet but cosmo's review really made me want to listen asap, obv i got the free download

☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:23 (fifteen years ago)

xpost that was re: Ash Eaters

☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:23 (fifteen years ago)

i want that fen/de arma split really bad

☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:27 (fifteen years ago)

i want both but cant find a UK distro and the £ is really shit against the euro just now

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:35 (fifteen years ago)

so can anyone recommend me some more atmospheric BM like fen? that's the stuff i've been in the mood for rather than raw stuff

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:36 (fifteen years ago)

oh dude! dark ambient/ambient black metal/black ambient thread for recommendations and discussion
^thread got me into what are now some of my favorite bands

☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:38 (fifteen years ago)

particularly Dark Ages, but i'm not sure if that's BM enough for what you're looking for
really great stuff from the guy that does Drudkh, but i think we've talked about this before
anyway lots and lots of good recommendations on that thread

☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:39 (fifteen years ago)

drudkh? ok i'll give it a shot. doesnt need to be too BM since you know atmospheric post rock/metal/sludge is my thing too. Just as long as i can hear some BM stuff too. I really liked the last Drudkh but i know some heads moaned it was too post rock and not metal enough.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:42 (fifteen years ago)

also he's a nazi so feel free to illegally download

☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:44 (fifteen years ago)

oh yeah i like Darkspace and some xasthur

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:45 (fifteen years ago)

Drudkh is awesome. Start at the beginning of the catalog and work your way forwards. It's a rewarding trek.

Check out the Ides Of Gemini for some forward-thinking atmospheric BM. Almost has a british isles folk vibe. Clean, haunting female vocals. They have a release called The Disruption Writ you can listen to/buy on Bandcamp.

Brooker T Buckingham, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:46 (fifteen years ago)

i guess wraiths count? i have one of their lps

i know all of the drudkh (as roxy knows i avoided them for a long time but the band released a statement saying theyre not nazis or far right or fascists so i see no reason not to believe them)

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:48 (fifteen years ago)

oh and im looking forward to the new wrath of the weak, anyone heard that yet?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:48 (fifteen years ago)

I like some of the folksy Drudkh stuff, didn't know they were nazis though goddamn

ka£ka (NickB), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

i saw a pic of the dude in a swastika armband, is what i'm basing that on - admittedly to yall this is hearsay so feel free to disregard

i hate it when bands release statements about nazi accusations that don't say "we aren't racist" they just say "we aren't political and don't talk about politics in our lyrics" - yeah that's what's bad about nazis, thanks for proving that you actually are a dick

☠ (roxymuzak), Monday, 21 March 2011 15:53 (fifteen years ago)

roxy it could have been an ancient pic when young & stupid.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:56 (fifteen years ago)

some nazi's started as communists so people can def change

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:57 (fifteen years ago)

but yeah if in doubt download it for free and dont give em money. Drudkh are on Spotify so i listen there.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 15:57 (fifteen years ago)

anyway

Not BM, but features members of BM bands and roxy since you dont read RM you may have missed the discussion.

is there any Gnaw Their Tongues material due?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 16:10 (fifteen years ago)

ilxor please tell us about the Liturgy album. How does it compare to the last one? Have you reviwed it online yet?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 17:41 (fifteen years ago)

i haven't heard the last one in full yet, just bits & songs here and there (latecomer i know). and i will tend to review things week of release, or thereabouts. ask in rolling metal: lots of those guys have heard it! ...and can describe it better than i can ^___^

ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Monday, 21 March 2011 17:45 (fifteen years ago)

oh well we can talk about it when it comes out and we all have it

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 17:55 (fifteen years ago)

worthwhile article regarding Drudkh's politics

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 21 March 2011 18:26 (fifteen years ago)

so basically, drudkh still refuse to make an outright statement re: their politics and another listener is trying to draw conclusions from the music? or did i miss something in that article?

ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Monday, 21 March 2011 18:30 (fifteen years ago)

not saying the conclusions drawn aren't to be considered; but it's still conjecture, right?

ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Monday, 21 March 2011 18:30 (fifteen years ago)

that article is by jimmy christ (who was?) editor of Terrorizer.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 18:41 (fifteen years ago)

roxy you know anything about CIRCLE OF OUROBORUS all i know is that they are a finnish BM band. Smithy you love finnish BM, you know anything about them? Would like to know more or hear something before buying it as im skint atm , no spare cash to take risks as I sometimes do. When i get money im doing a profoundlore order that ive been wanting all month.

pre-order price USA $15 ppd ROW $18 now thats cheap.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

not saying the conclusions drawn aren't to be considered; but it's still conjecture, right?

It's about as much conjecture as if a dude made three albums and Reagan was a hero on each one. Either he's engaged in a career-long satirical take on Reagan-as-hero, or he thinks Reagan's a hero.

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 21 March 2011 19:10 (fifteen years ago)

IOW Drudkh are pretty plainly Ukrainian nationalists and trying to work around that involves a lot of fooling yrself imo, and "nationalist" isn't really a benign term esp. in that region

five gone cats from Boston (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 21 March 2011 19:11 (fifteen years ago)

what does IOW stand for? I keep reading it as Isle Of Wight

you've not actually ordered it right? I only ask cos I was gonna get the Raspberry Bulbs LP the other day from em but it added $4 on once I got to Paypal! So I sacked it off (Second Layer said they were getting it)

I only use this style of type when I choose it (DJ Mencap), Monday, 21 March 2011 19:48 (fifteen years ago)

I did order it, didn't wanna wait then lose the pre-order price incase it jumped up by $10. It charged me £11.33. No added $4

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 19:50 (fifteen years ago)

huh, they've increased the price of the RBs now (I guess it's not a pre-order now?) but I just bought a CoO anyway - even if these come to the UK they'll prolly cost more than that - good lookin out

I only use this style of type when I choose it (DJ Mencap), Monday, 21 March 2011 19:59 (fifteen years ago)

that's probably it, dont really wanna spend an extra $4 so im glad i ordered now.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 20:00 (fifteen years ago)

Re: Drudkh - if you don't like this it's clearly not for you.

Siegbran, Monday, 21 March 2011 20:18 (fifteen years ago)

I like their music a lot (same with burzum) I guess if they are a bit "dodgy" or even outright vile like varg, i can listen to their music but not pay for it and buy stuff from those i want to. If the lyrics promote that stuff though then I'm out. Gotta draw a line somewhere, but i'm not gonna call someone who separates the music from the people making nazi's. I will however call actual neo nazis/racists/fascists cunts or dicks or wankers or whatever though!

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 20:22 (fifteen years ago)

so where do you fall on drudkh, then?

ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Monday, 21 March 2011 20:24 (fifteen years ago)

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 20:24 (fifteen years ago)

you bought the last drudkh didnt you?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 21 March 2011 20:25 (fifteen years ago)

i did, it's alright but not really all that compelling. i dont get spotify here tho :(

ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Monday, 21 March 2011 20:28 (fifteen years ago)

if you don't want it i can take freebies without having a crisis of conscience!

hah, i just got it! ;)

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Thursday, 6 October 2011 22:49 (fourteen years ago)

its more a mini lp apparently. 7 short songs anyway and available on lp from NWN

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Thursday, 6 October 2011 23:05 (fourteen years ago)

That Raspbery Bulbs LP is awesome. Like a blackened Misfits circa Static Age. Would love to catch them live now that they're performing a ton in NYC. Was able to score a shirt off his label's site, Seedstock records. Pink BM shirts are the future

just ordered this as I loved their previous albums. Don't know a single thing about them apart from the fact they're from the Ukraine, but if you like Drudkh or Agalloch then you will probably like Raventale

The fifth, conceptual album of the Ukranian band Raventale has without doubt become the most sophisticated, sensual and mature work of the band. «Bringer Of Heartsore» is also the most atmospheric one of all the works by the project of the talented musician Astaroth who succeeded to express nostalgic autumn mood and beauty of nature by means of verses of famous poet of Silver Age Alexander Blok which provided more depth to the album concept. The musical part, as always, features metamorphoses as the musician follows his rule to introduce changes to every following album. The compositions feature brilliant solo guitar parts associated with classical progressive rock and dramatic acoustic guitar instrumentals. The CD is issued as a limited edition digipack, and its booklet includes fragments of the canvases by greatest Russian painters of 19th century: I. Aivasovsky and I. Levitan delivering additional strokes to the mood of Raventale music.

eleven months pass...

Raventale - Transcendence
Format: CD
Release Date: 01.10.2012
Country: Ukraine
Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal

The sixth album of Raventale once again discovers the band creativity to the attentive listeners. «Transcendence» presents majestic and deep music performed in style of savage black metal; this album features perfect sound, performance, musical and lyrical content. Without a doubt, this is one of the best works of Raventale. Conceptually «Transcendence»is on the threshold of the Epoch of the Six Sun. The main aim of the work is contemplation of transcendental and exorbitant forms of being against the background of conventionality and immanent degradation of modern civilization.

Not a lot of doubting going on.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 1 October 2012 15:58 (thirteen years ago)
