The wife and I, listening to interviews with Rebecca, were surprised at how crass the interviewers were in making her respond to the criticisms. I mean, if I were to interview Metallica and say they haven't made a good album since Cliff died, I probably get thrown out of the room and never interview them or any bands handled by their handlers again. Here, radio guys and TV hosts have no problem quoting some very horrible things directly to her asking for comment.
I think she handled it well in the interview with the Canadian morning guy whose audio interview is on the main page of the Ark Music site now:
http://arkmusicfactory.com
But still, it's a bit of a surprise. When the Good Morning America interviewer was quoting stuff to her, I was upset. She's a 13 year old kid, do you really need to quote people saying "I hate her voice," "Even deaf people are complaining" and then following up to get her to reveal that someone told her to cut herself and get an eating disorder and how she cried?
So mean and unnecessary. Even Howard Stern wouldn't have been such a jerk with her, I'll bet.
Anyway, she comes off as a typical 13-year odl with Bieber Fever who is dealing with 15 minutes of fame. She's cute and seems to have a keen grasp on not only her talent but her place in the world, no mean feat for a young teenager stuck in an exploding internet meme.

i might be totally wrong here, but i've been kind of assuming that the reason RB has been doing interviews about feeling 'cyberbullied' is that she saw the comments and wants to talk about it publicly, not that the interviewers are ambushing her on-camera with nasty comments she hadn't already read?
― some dude, Saturday, 19 March 2011 13:40 (fifteen years ago)
xp OTM abt how gross that GMA interviewer was being. "What's the worst thing you read? Did you cry? Do you think you have any talent?"
Like, seriously? Are you completely unaware of the fact this girl is 13? But yeah she comes off as surprisingly mature/capable and seems to be handling this p much the best way possible.

America consistently produces shite, mass produced music. always in the English's shadow. For every Rolling Stones, Beatles, Zepplin & Oasis we produce America comes up with Miley Cirus, this slag and Justin Bieber.
America's best band right now is the Kings of Leon and they're only famous in England anyway.
Come on America, sort it out. Where's your Nirvana's gone?
― difficult listening hour, Saturday, 19 March 2011 18:24 (fifteen years ago)
I love that the English think enough of Oasis to put them in the company of the Stones and Beatles
it's like saying "but we have great American act, too -- Springsteen, the Velvets, Tiger Trap..."

The rap remix seems to reflect some sense of contempt for ark's artists and their songs, imo. Couldn't believe it was real at first.
