The new version seems to be working quite well, no bugs so far.
― Tuomas, Friday, 18 March 2011 19:53 (fifteen years ago)
it's still buggy, one occasional glitch is when it just stops between songs, then everyone has to remove their queued tracka and reupload to kick it back to life.
― MaresNest, Friday, 18 March 2011 20:07 (fifteen years ago)
*tracks* obv tsk
Seems to be working fine now, but I'm alone in the ILXOR room. :(

Quick bump in-case anybody is around.

There's an alternative here:
http://www.mumuplayer.com
It is limited to 5 listeners per room.

This is pretty nice. Essentially the same as the original Listening Room, but even more bare bones.

He's reopening listening room in two weeks.
― he he he what would i not eat? (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 18:11 (fifteen years ago)
Listening Room has become needlessly graphics-heavy, though. Bad move imo.

So far, Outloud is A++.

you guys should really stop by there; I made an ILX ad and everything.
― When Zeester Met Koffie (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 2 June 2011 03:25 (fifteen years ago)
I was in the main Outloud.fm room pretty much from the original post until about two hours ago and it never went down and everything flowed smoothly and I didn't have to look at a bunch of c0rny graphics like little records and a useless turntable.
Outta here.

Listening Room's out. I don't tweet.

From the http://outloud.fm/ILXORS twitter sign-in
This application will be able to: Read Tweets from your timeline. See who you follow, and follow new people. Update your profile. Post Tweets on your behalf.
Read Tweets from your timeline. See who you follow, and follow new people. Update your profile. Post Tweets on your behalf.
That kind of thing just drives me to the Back button.
People are seriously going to let an app from someone they don't know decide to follow new people, change their profiles and post tweets just to listen to some tunes?
― reverse the jelly baby of the neutron flow (onimo), Thursday, 2 June 2011 09:10 (fifteen years ago)
I think all things that agree to link up with twitter make those concessions, but on their own login page they state "We will NEVER publish to your account feed without you explicitly choosing to do so."
Right now it's just two guys and some helper monkeys, so you should probably ask them about it if you're really that spooked.

I just posed this to them:
@outloudfm Friends are spooked by the permissions granted with twitter login: See who you follow, and follow new people/Update your profile@outloudfm Maybe you could make the app read-only instead of read and write?
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 2 June 2011 09:34 (fifteen years ago)
Thanks Johnny - I realise these clauses are pretty much standard but I don't like that blanket granting of permission that seems to be everywhere these days. Have you ever seen the crap a mobile phone app asks for?
― reverse the jelly baby of the neutron flow (onimo), Thursday, 2 June 2011 09:39 (fifteen years ago)
Have you ever seen the crap a mobile phone app asks for?
lol my phone is ancient and pretty much just a phone.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 2 June 2011 09:49 (fifteen years ago)
Yes, thanks for doing that - would definitely like to go back to one of these things but all that permissiveness does give me the major creeps.
― emil.y, Thursday, 2 June 2011 12:49 (fifteen years ago)
Okay, both twitter and fb logins are now read-only on their end. No more crazy permissions being handed over.
You're welcome! ;)
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 06:55 (fifteen years ago)
yeah, listening room is moving to a non-twitter/facebook method as well.

Hangin' out: http://outloud.fm/ILXORS
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 10 June 2011 00:52 (fourteen years ago)
Looks cool, but I loved the Euro flavor of the old room, with its little turntable spinning. A nice tribute to the old days of cover art.
― Deremiah Was a Bullfrog (u s steel), Friday, 10 June 2011 01:32 (fourteen years ago)
The turntable itself in the og Listening Room was a cool idea, but all the records (big ones and little ones) are overkill imo.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 10 June 2011 01:36 (fourteen years ago)
Good session. The Pinhas/Merzbow > Nazz segue was a surprise treat.
― Monsieur Naturel (WmC), Friday, 10 June 2011 03:37 (fourteen years ago)

Seems to be working much better than Listening Room, great!

Didn't have the opportunity to drop in yesterday. When did they add thumbnail art to the activity feed? I like it. Aesthetically nice but still not cluttery.

Tighten up the logo and maybe play with the color scheme slightly and I think they've finally got it right.

oooh .. i never see the waveform .. nor the record art.so it could be a browser plugin/permission issue.

This looks very interesting! Do I need a FB or Twitter account to participate in this? I got rid of both a while ago, but can I just make a new twitter-account and join in? Is it invite only? I don't have any experience with this.
Also, Johnny: Sent you a friend-req, spotted your alias in your screenshot :)

re: turntable.fm
Can't remember if it was mentioned here or not, but I just posted this in another place and thought I'd reiterate here.
I've played around on turntable.fm a little bit and, while it has some cool aspects, it turns the experience into more of a contest or game than I'm comfortable with. I'd rather just hang with people I know and play tunes instead of voting things up or down. Also, the chat portion of turntable.fm is deemphasized in favor of some totally dumb "virtual club" setting which looks like an 8 year-old's video game. No thanks.
