it's the extraneous shit that sets them apart and i'm pretty sure is a much bigger reason for them blowing up rather than just because they're good at rapping, otherwise why aren't we talking about the jacka or na'tee or, like...square off, i don't even know who that is but i loved the song i just listened to like way more than any OF track i've heard

i mean, take it as a given that i dont find Big L as hard to listen to as Odd Future, and im trying to work out why -- so i said, you know, big l brings this street subtext in his music that has a real world heaviness to it, that his 'raping nuns' ish is like, the world is a cold, hard place, and im 'street struck' etc, and caricaturish violence is the logical eventual response, that it drives u to sociopathic extreme humor. so for me, theres an irreverence to odd future that feels out of step w/ the minimal context their music provides, the uncommon references to absent fathers etc

nah i know this, im not saying harlem is the only place that this is possible! im just saying the content of the music here, to my exp., isnt bringing enough context to make all the rape jokes bearable. maybe when i was 18 i woulda been all BADASS!! about it but i think im just too old for it now.
