So it's safe to assume trollish asshole then? What with the prolonged bickering over a poorly structured and already clarified sentence on an internet message board and all.

Because I found the idea of your post offensive and hilarious.

da croupier, Monday, 14 March 2011 23:33 (fifteen years ago)

Yo, there's these trap cats in Atlanta that literally put peepee in your coke

SBlendor in the grass (bernard snowy), Monday, 14 March 2011 23:37 (fifteen years ago)

everyone here knows who pretty much everyone else is, didn't think 'outing' you to noz was some huge deal

J0rdan S., Monday, 14 March 2011 23:37 (fifteen years ago)

what was the point, though?

da croupier, Monday, 14 March 2011 23:38 (fifteen years ago)

PS yeah syd the kyd - "flashlight" is like top 5 songs of this year for me (it did come out this year right? or was i just sleeping?)

SBlendor in the grass (bernard snowy), Monday, 14 March 2011 23:38 (fifteen years ago)

It's okay Jordan. I don't have the slightest clue who anthon0ny m1cci0 is irl.

you got thin skin for a guy who misses high school gay-baiting, dude

I don't know who anybody is

"baiting"

based grandpa (noz), Monday, 14 March 2011 23:41 (fifteen years ago)

so OF's thing is basically that they capture something essential about being a teenage boy (that adults don't tend to feel any more). maybe this should go in the teenpop thread.

lex pretend, Monday, 14 March 2011 23:41 (fifteen years ago)

lol shakey mo and ilxor p much the only two involved here i don't know the government names of. critics!

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Monday, 14 March 2011 23:42 (fifteen years ago)

OF's thing is that they're really fucking good at rapping and making rap songs.

based grandpa (noz), Monday, 14 March 2011 23:42 (fifteen years ago)

maybe this should go in the teenpop thread.

sure why not

garage rock is usually very land-based (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 14 March 2011 23:43 (fifteen years ago)

look justin bieber, i wasnt trying to say who should be offended or when it was ok or wasnt, i was just expressing my personal comfort level w/ obviously offensive music. it wasnt an attempt to 'defend' anything, i just get pretty tired of the 'odd future arent as bad as guys that really mean it' used to apply to poor guys who arent as good at twitter marketing. or the idea that i cant criticize this stuff for talking about rape & 'faggots' all the time because i listen to artists who are defense. you of all people should recognize that as a defensive copout

i also dont get why its not ok for me to tell ilxor to stfu btu its ok for whiney to talk shit about me & misrepresent my point (which is what ilxor was laughing at when i told him to stfu) except that you seem to like badgering me about this stuff but not others

deej, Monday, 14 March 2011 23:44 (fifteen years ago)

because i listen to artists who are offensive rather

deej, Monday, 14 March 2011 23:44 (fifteen years ago)

man i'm rooting for deej but god this feels like watching jeff gordon's car headed for the concrete wall

deej, Monday, 14 March 2011 23:47 (fifteen years ago)

i'm not sidin against you here fwiw. tbh i've been trying to read 3,532,232 posts back to find out what this is all about and well my cpu is too slow so I gave up

hold my breathless i wish go dead (San Te), Monday, 14 March 2011 23:48 (fifteen years ago)

OF's thing is that they're really fucking good at rapping and making rap songs.

yeah they're okay but beyond all the extraneous shit that we're talking about - their offensiveness, their teenagerness - they really do not stand out for me on these counts at all - like half the random rappers i've never heard of that deej posts in the gun sounds thread are better

lex pretend, Monday, 14 March 2011 23:48 (fifteen years ago)

this is a truth bomb

what do it take to be a legend like noz is? (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 14 March 2011 23:49 (fifteen years ago)

it's the extraneous shit that sets them apart and i'm pretty sure is a much bigger reason for them blowing up rather than just because they're good at rapping, otherwise why aren't we talking about the jacka or na'tee or, like...square off, i don't even know who that is but i loved the song i just listened to like way more than any OF track i've heard

lex pretend, Monday, 14 March 2011 23:50 (fifteen years ago)

also, angel haze totally slays OF if you're looking for ~teenage attitude~ that sometimes manifests itself in unpleasantness

lex pretend, Monday, 14 March 2011 23:51 (fifteen years ago)

it's the extraneous shit that sets them apart and i'm pretty sure is a much bigger reason for them blowing up rather than just because they're good at rapping,

I'm sure this is true, but so what? popular approval has never been a particularly good barometer of quality rapping

good rapping is kind of a bonus when it comes to most popular rap act amirite

(who cannot rap)

garage rock is usually very land-based (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 14 March 2011 23:56 (fifteen years ago)

yes but lex's point is that other people do offensive teenage better than OF, nobody does Canadian TV star rap better than Drake (at least not since Tom Green, to my knowledge)

da croupier, Monday, 14 March 2011 23:57 (fifteen years ago)

lol

garage rock is usually very land-based (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 14 March 2011 23:58 (fifteen years ago)

you forgot 'offensive Canadian TV star rap'

man I keep thinking "deej is smart, I'll talk with him" but I always forget that your persecution complex makes engaging you a total non-starter. forget I said anything, I knew when you got unbanned it was curtains for rap threads, I'll wait til you're gone again before reading any, have fun

I do love how when deej accuses any of the people who are super-mean to deej, he pretends that he doesn't have a list as long as his arm of people who're against him, misinterpret him, are focused on him, etc

ignoring m3atl0af,

i mean, take it as a given that i dont find Big L as hard to listen to as Odd Future, and im trying to work out why -- so i said, you know, big l brings this street subtext in his music that has a real world heaviness to it, that his 'raping nuns' ish is like, the world is a cold, hard place, and im 'street struck' etc, and caricaturish violence is the logical eventual response, that it drives u to sociopathic extreme humor. so for me, theres an irreverence to odd future that feels out of step w/ the minimal context their music provides, the uncommon references to absent fathers etc

deej, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 00:10 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, but anyone who was 16 knows you don't need to be from HARLEM IIRC to be misanthropic or nihilistic or offensive. It's a trademark of alienation that transcends all class and race boundaries

i been serving humble pie since he had small faces (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 15 March 2011 00:18 (fifteen years ago)

The thing about Big L and Odd Future and Cannibal Corpse and Blowfly and Anal Cunt and Bathtub Shitter and Whitehouse is that society let them down and they feel alienated, outside, out of step.

i been serving humble pie since he had small faces (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 15 March 2011 00:21 (fifteen years ago)

pretty sure most artists like to think they're alienated, outside, out of step

da croupier, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 00:22 (fifteen years ago)

lol yeah guys ilxor thinks tyler invented "no homo".

hah i am well aware this is a 'thing' & dont think tyler invented it, have heard before etc.- funny to assume otherwise tho?

ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Tuesday, 15 March 2011 00:26 (fifteen years ago)

nah i know this, im not saying harlem is the only place that this is possible! im just saying the content of the music here, to my exp., isnt bringing enough context to make all the rape jokes bearable. maybe when i was 18 i woulda been all BADASS!! about it but i think im just too old for it now.

deej, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 00:29 (fifteen years ago)

The thing about Big L and Odd Future and Cannibal Corpse and Blowfly and Anal Cunt and Bathtub Shitter and Whitehouse is that society let them down and they feel alienated, outside, out of step....and they intentionally say really ignorant shit guaranteed to offend large swaths of the populace (while hopefully selling to a large enough audience to make it worth it).

da croupier, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 00:31 (fifteen years ago)

deej you realize that you're making a value judgment that growing up poor and in harlem gives you a reason to be nihilistic while growing up, say, without a father, or just feeling alienated for whatever reason, doesn't -- or at least doesn't give you a good enough reason

i mean i guess that's your decision to make but it's kinda BS

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 March 2011 00:33 (fifteen years ago)

xpost Just so we don't mistake them for the alienated, outside, out of step artists like James Taylor, the Arcade Fire and Nina Simone.

dude its not how they *grew up* for the last time its about what they put in the music itself

deej, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 00:41 (fifteen years ago)

for all i know tyler's had a really rough life, but i wish his music would reflect that balance more if he wants to get away w/ expressing that kind of shit & instead he just comes across as a 4chan type 'irreverent' OTT type to me
