I tried to get a sentence in there explaining that this isn't what I'm saying ("while I recognize that this is about your/our/anybody's response/reading" = "I/you/we are uncomfortable with one usage that seems homophobic/hateful but find another usage nuanced/narrative/whatever"): my point is that drawing those distinctions is a kinda grotesque attempt on behalf of the privileged. Everybody understands this point pretty well with racist language: just don't use it. Don't try to explain how your usage isn't actually racist or whatever. Just don't say that shit. Decent rule also with "faggot" if you're straight.

A big part of the reason I fuck with OF is that they remind me of some of the kids I used to hang out with in high school, right down to the rape jokes and casual homophobia. The only thing that's really changed today is the access to and documentation of how kids talk. I mean this was some shit we'd say in a garage or on the basketball court or in a skatepark. Now it's digestible and permanent.

I just read a paragraph from someone wistful for the casual homophobia of youth.

Hi I'm new here so I don't yet know who is a trollish asshole and who just doesn't read well. To play it on the safe side I'm going to very calmly and carefully explain my earlier post to the one da croupier: I was saying that these kids are similar to the types of kids I grew up with. (a) This appeals to me for nostalgic reasons not relating to casual homophobia (b) but sometimes a degree of casual homophobia does come with that personality type.

People who aren't head to toe politically correct - especially young kids - can still be fun, likable and downright good. They just say stupid things sometimes.
