goddamn, this must be unbelievable for Tyler having his dreams realized in such a short time like this. I'm happy for the guy.

Lil B is like Mudhoney in this scenario
― Whiney On The Goon (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 12 March 2011 01:17 (fifteen years ago)
i never really understand people's commercial expectations for these guys. is it just general 'sky's the limit' enthusiasm or does anyone actually think they're gonna knock young money off radio playlists instead of, i dunno, getting the hip hop slot at next year's mtvu woodie awards?
― some dude, Saturday, 12 March 2011 02:08 (fifteen years ago)
the billboard article addresses that iirc
― deej, Saturday, 12 March 2011 02:18 (fifteen years ago)
it addresses the expectations of people on the odd future ilm thread?
― some dude, Saturday, 12 March 2011 02:25 (fifteen years ago)
xp x10 where's that photo from? that can't be their studio
― sleepingbag, Saturday, 12 March 2011 02:28 (fifteen years ago)
it addresses the issue of 'expectations' in general
― deej, Saturday, 12 March 2011 02:47 (fifteen years ago)
yeah i see there's the nirvana comparison there too. ugh son.
― some dude, Saturday, 12 March 2011 02:50 (fifteen years ago)

― J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 03:29 (fifteen years ago)
also i'm wondering how the mellowhype re-release is gonna work w/ the one song that earl is on, seeing how his mom wouldn't sign off on him being on tyler's album
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 03:36 (fifteen years ago)
i should ask hodgy on tumblr
that rifkin back and forth is fucking killing me
― I just want to give a shout-out to Buzzy Beetles (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:20 (fifteen years ago)
Lots of bands have had #1 albums without getting played on top 40 stations.. or on the radio at all. They may not be a huge singles group, but their albums will sell.
― billstevejim, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:21 (fifteen years ago)
my expectation for these guys is that they are game changers don't know if anyone would've expected wayne or pharrell to be game changers either but
― I just want to give a shout-out to Buzzy Beetles (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:22 (fifteen years ago)
the album's gonna chart (obviously), but i could believe tyler's first week numbers to be outside the top 150 or inside the top 10
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:23 (fifteen years ago)
maybe collectively, maybe by influence, maybe a few breakout solo hitsbut basically all their music and ephemera has some value and there's enough if you scrape it together to make two great albumsand they're teenagers and just figuring it out, so figure sky's the limit

bad examples since both of those guys were lurking around the industry being a part of big unit-shifting hit records for years before people really recognized their talent or credited them with any kind of paradigm shift
― some dude, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:25 (fifteen years ago)
what game did pharrell change
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:26 (fifteen years ago)
xp talking in terms of starting points with talent, not connectionsyer argument sorta strengthens the wu comparisonbut whatever this is all bullshit "let's figure them out before they figure themselves out" stuff anyway and i totally cop to being guilty of thatjust happy to see realized potential and good music ahead
― I just want to give a shout-out to Buzzy Beetles (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:28 (fifteen years ago)
pharell changed parcheesi... forever
pharrell's not a RAP STAR but he's definitely been a hugely influential and impactful figure
― some dude, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:29 (fifteen years ago)
I was thinking more like Pantera, or I guess NWA.. Their fanbase goes nuts over them, although they really had no chance to score huge hits. (NWA obviously did after they split up.)
― billstevejim, Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:30 (fifteen years ago)
lol
tyler as dimebag
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 12 March 2011 04:32 (fifteen years ago)
(note: i know nothing about pantera)
its sad he was a creator
I know they had a #1 album and that I've never heard them on any big radio stations.

what kinds of things lead you to believe that they are 'game changers.' what part of the game are they changing?
imo milo was otm when he said this is '11 def jux in a better market for def jux type rap
