Yeah, both have that mary poppins travel bag thing where what looked like one tune on the outside actually contained a whole house of stuff.

I used to have fantasies about that when I heard a great remix - wow, imagine if this artist sounded like that all the time. It so rarely happens.

after a week of not really bothering to listen to it i have decided that ladyluck is like a massive nosedive in quality from night air and my expectations have kindof nosedived along w/ it.

the phaggy melodrama and noir atmosphere have disappeared, sounds a *bit* like some nu british soul bs that turns up on jools holland.

I haven't heard it yet but 'nu british soul bs' made me think of James Blake. This is better than the James Blake, right?

kind of agree w/plax re "lady luck" which i haven't gone back to very much. def better than james blake though.

Can't speak for the whole album but the other leaked tunes are more "Night Air" than "Lady Luck" (which I like, though maybe because it reminds me of an Idol performance in some ways, so I can sorta see why haters gon hate).

i do like "lady luck", it's just...okay

mmm yeah it's the difference between hearing a song and being blwon away and having to listen to it 5 times a day for a month, and hearing a song and enjoying it and then forgetting it exists until someone bumps this thread

so jamie's show was pretty good. he's got KILLER pipes when he lets them show but his touring band's not doing him many favors. the songs that worked best stripped back all rock/pop arrangements for a dubby sound w/ lots of bass and room for his voice to float around in. played "night air" and maybe 6 other tunes from the album.

Think it just leaked.

I'm either going to be elated or crazy disappointed. I'm probably expecting too much from this record anyway, but it's the first thing I've been honestly excited about hearing this year.

got this today-- it's great three tracks in!

okay & that's before track 4 "Shoulda" pretty much took a sledgehammer to everything else in his catalog. AMAZINGGGG

People really download those things? I tend to assume they're boxes full of viruses and if you get an album with it it's a bonus.

Night Air and Lady Luck are pretty accurate tasters for the album, imho. Immaculately produced, not totally blown away though. Need more listens. Reminded me more of James Blake than I had expected on first listen (i.e. ultimately innocent soul stylings but with somewhat dangerous production).

i just got the Blake album & played Woon a week ago or so, i think the Blake album has both higher highs & lower lows, if that makes sense

Don't get the comparison at all tbh. There's not a single song on the James Blake album that doesn't make me want to punch a baby, whereas the Woon album is close to flawless.

I wouldn't compare the two mind, I mean if you throw Woon and Blake together you may as well throw in Katy B. It just doesn't work yeah they all have a bass thing going on beu they all come at it diffrently. Katy B big girl next door pop anthems, Woon electronic indie/soul song writer material, Blake looped-out electronic freakery. Woon and Blake use a simular pallet, Blake sings but doesn't try to make songs, woon has been attempting to make songs for ages as some London free indie mic spot monkey untill he found the bass scene. Nowt wrong with any aproach really but they all have a difference no point comparing them to me at least. They do diffrent things.

Loving this album.

been listening to this a lot though, it's nice. really like the live band sound, particularly because the arrangements are really meticulous and it sounds like they're emulating more of an electronic approach.

New album is great, especially the lovely ‘The Heart’s Mountains’.

I missed this and had zero idea that there was a new Jamie Woon album until scanning through the ILM tracks poll noms (not even albums!).

I swear the only way to actually know about new releases is just to google your fav artists every 6 - 12 months.

Upon further reflection, I think I had heard of this, checked it out and was not that into it, and wiped it from my memory. :/ And now my decaying brain is going through the same circuit.

found his second album, making time, on cd in a charity shop last year but not really given it much time.
need to sort that out.

I love that one, and was hoping he'd continue the live band thing.
