is it different than the one I just posted?

I like how Bejar seems sorta nervous at first but then gets into it as he goesand the way it basically turns into smooth-jazz freakout at the end
― on some outer space shit (bernard snowy), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 20:15 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah really looking forward to the show in dc w/ the war on drugs opening.

HmSaying that it's his "Best Album", when it is such a remarkable stylistic shiftMay make the faithful claim that such a statement would negate the other gems in the crownBut that's not really the case, is it?
― Odult Ariented Rock (Ówen P.), Thursday, 24 February 2011 00:43 (thirteen years ago) link
i really don't think this album is *that* radical a shift for bejar. i think he's ultimately like leonard cohen, where his own persona dominates, no matter what musical setting you put him in.
― tylerw, Thursday, 24 February 2011 03:57 (thirteen years ago) link
xp nope, it was like opening pandora's box for me. pretty good marketing innit

Two bass players in that performance! One on either side of the drums.

i didn't really like the tv performance.

it sucks--he's not good live, i fear (saw them live once)
― Iago Galdston, Saturday, 26 February 2011 00:55 (thirteen years ago) link
the music on this album should exist only on this album and never be reproduced ever
― gr8080, Saturday, 26 February 2011 01:24 (thirteen years ago) link
yer nuts, horn shit was awesome imo
bejar painfully shy afterwards, was kind of endearing

i saw dan b when frog eyes backed him on the your blues tour. great show. he bowed after every song . . . rarely seen someone so appreciative of his audience
― reggie (qualmsley), Saturday, 26 February 2011 02:19 (thirteen years ago) link
I like how Bejar seems sorta nervous at first
he is crazy uncomfortable onstage and often gets drunk to fight it. when he plays w/ New Pornographers usually comes out to sing carrying a pint.
I'm the total opposite, wasn't really thinking of going to Webster Hall in April but now I'm gonna see if there's still tickets. My wife can heckle (still hates this record).
― dmr, Saturday, 26 February 2011 02:47 (thirteen years ago) link
Haha, yeah last time I saw the New Pornos and Dan was there he was absolutely tanked. I couldn't believe that they played, and he made it through, "A Testament To Youth In Verse" and "Chump Change."
― Du Musst Calamari Werden (Phil D.), Saturday, 26 February 2011 03:02 (thirteen years ago) link
ecch I really dislike 'rubies', not sure about 'your blues'. What are the good new pornos songs w/ bejar?
― forest zombie (Vasco da Gama), Saturday, 26 February 2011 03:31 (thirteen years ago) link
all of them, but particularly "ballad of a comeback kid," "myriad harbor," "broken beads," both "jackies," yeah, all of them
― Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Saturday, 26 February 2011 04:23 (thirteen years ago) link

I saw him on the rubies tour and didn't really think I'd ever need to see him again... but I'm reconsidering now. my wife makes sardonic pet shop boys comparisons whenever I put on kaputt.

That's funny, I can't listen to it without thinking of Neil Tennant.

ime he is charming & extremely likeable not partic uncomfortable live and i saw him doing a solo acoustic show?
― flopson, Saturday, 26 February 2011 22:34 (thirteen years ago) link
Laziest River is amazing! I've never liked destroyer but this record is something else. definitely not just a bonus song.
― JacobSanders, Monday, 28 February 2011 19:16 (thirteen years ago) link
everyone seems to think he's totally tanked during NPs shows, but I think this is just sort of an act? at least to some extent. maybe i'm wrong.
― tylerw, Monday, 28 February 2011 19:26 (thirteen years ago) link
Ken Jennings is a fan:
Favorite record: man that is tough. I'm listening to the new Destroyer record as I type this. When the laws are changed I want to marry Dan Bejar.

Oy. Sold out for March 31 in Toronto. I don’t think he sold out even on the night of last time through (in the same venue).

yeah that session sounded nice. trumpets on painter in your pocket! hope he comes to my neck of the woods with this band.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 21:50 (thirteen years ago) link
is it me or did this get completely ignored by the uk indie mags? shame. guess the chances he'll ever come play live here are close to 0%
― i love it when a suggest ban comes together (cajunsunday), Tuesday, 22 March 2011 21:55 (thirteen years ago) link
Yeah, it doesn't seem like Kaputt even got a release in the UK. I haven't seen it in any shops and the price from online retailers started and has stayed pretty high. Not sure if he has played here before at all. His profile seems largely non-existent in Scotland at least.
― AnotherDeadHero, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 22:41 (thirteen years ago) link
How could Brits NOT love Destroyer? Seems odd...cannot WAIT to see them at Webster Hall, oh yeahhhhhhhh
― Iago Galdston, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 23:27 (thirteen years ago) link
the last two albums got fairly luke warm reviews. you know, the I-didn't-actually-listen-it type reviews. but this one got nowt!

Bejar the 'artist' sounds like a dickhead:
For one project, “Get Lost!,” he replaced New York City subway maps with versions that had a slightly different coastline and no names or markings—he wanted to evoke the city as it might have looked in 1609, when Henry Hudson sailed past.
I'm sure the family of five from Lincoln, Nebraska who'd been saving for five years to go see the friggin' Statue of Liberty or some shit really appreciates your 'art project,' asshole.
Mandatory Bohemia fuck off

i'm imagining the two of them in a fight to the death and i have to shoot the fake dan but they both keep claiming they're the real dan. don't know what to do.
