xp to Razorlight pic, again:

I can't see another chance that I'll get to recount this anecdote on ILM, so here you go:

My dad was part of the last year of National service in the UK (1960 I think), and was based in South Wales. From the way he tells it he split the time 50/50 with raining artillery shells on hillsides and getting pissed. On one occasion he went to a favourite local pub with his pal "Scouse" Robinson, who was wearing a new alpen style hat with a feather in it. On entering the packed bar, the landlady spotted them and bellowed across the room:

"Christ almighty, Robinson, give me that fucking hat; I want to see if I look as much of a cunt in it as you do"

There's a pic of Noel Edmonds and Tony Blackburn presenting TOTP while both wearing Tyrolean hats, so I guess that the answer to the landlady's question is "yes".

should get a 100+ votes this thread. Will probably be the 1st worst ever ILM poll that toploader & stereophonics wont win too.

btw all these bands are so unmemorable they dont even get in NME's Greatest Frontmen Ever (2011 edition) you would think some new bands frontmen would make the NME list to keep their readers interested. The best they can do is Matt Bellamy!

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 23 February 2011 20:34 (fifteen years ago)

sfg to win by 50 votes then? Mumford 2nd?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 23 February 2011 23:15 (fifteen years ago)

Jools Timms (22) is the frontman for Bicester based ska-folk revivalists The Lorimers, named after former Leeds great Peter Lorimer. Says Jools of his trademark tyrolean hat, "it's part of who I am, it's about saying I'm street but I know my roots". Tours with The Cornhuskers and an upcoming support slot with Mumford & Sons bode well for 2011, and a debut album is in the works. "Bicester is a weird place, it's urban but it's rural, it's about taking the spirits from the trees and the rhythms from the human world around us." Citing influences as diverse as The Police, The Incredible String Band, Enter Shikari and Catcher in the Rye, there's no doubt he's done his reading, and it will take a brave soul to doubt these fearless troubadours in the year ahead.

the police,
- the incredible String Band - enter shikari and,
catcher in the rye

so disappointed in all of you, should have gone with my heart and voted for the feeling. I learned a hard lesson about tactical voting today.

Not that I care much - or at all - but I still think the Futureheads are a little too good for this.....

"there's a new music taking over this country... it's called landfill indie"

Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Thursday, 24 February 2011 00:47 (fifteen years ago)

The bands who have achieved their way to zero votes are the ones who really embody what landfill indie is all about, imho.

oppet, Thursday, 24 February 2011 00:51 (fifteen years ago)

omg forgot about indie bb girl

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 24 February 2011 00:55 (fifteen years ago)

Subtract 1 from the Futureheads, I thought we were voting for the best among this group.

Pisle of dogs (seandalai), Thursday, 24 February 2011 01:17 (fifteen years ago)

what a depressing thread, for about 250 reasons

NI, Thursday, 24 February 2011 01:19 (fifteen years ago)

every band deserved a lot of votes. If there is ever a dadrock type poll i wonder who would win. There was so many of them.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 24 February 2011 01:20 (fifteen years ago)

would need to leave out the big bands though

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 24 February 2011 01:20 (fifteen years ago)

NI at least you have the knowledge you never liked any of these bands in the poll.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 24 February 2011 01:21 (fifteen years ago)

If there is ever a dadrock type poll i wonder who would win. There was so many of them.

rly, more than this, or did it just feel like it due to the depressing nature of any attention being paid these dire dullards? at least landfillers are young dipshits having a go.

Cast, Ocean Weller Scene, ?? - who else really counts?

Pure gold. If only the landlady of The Bear had lived to see this.

Bill A, Thursday, 24 February 2011 08:09 (fifteen years ago)

Can we redo this poll? I want to vote for The Lorimers.

nate woolls, Thursday, 24 February 2011 09:14 (fifteen years ago)

the feeling 0

If there were ever a band that resembled Jimmy Carr asleep...

Mark G, Thursday, 24 February 2011 09:25 (fifteen years ago)

they deserved votes

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 24 February 2011 16:02 (fifteen years ago)

you know, i don't think i've heard mumford & sons yet, but a lot of people i know have said they like them. i take it they really are that harmful if they came second to scouting for girls?
