I can't see another chance that I'll get to recount this anecdote on ILM, so here you go:

My dad was part of the last year of National service in the UK (1960 I think), and was based in South Wales. From the way he tells it he split the time 50/50 with raining artillery shells on hillsides and getting pissed. On one occasion he went to a favourite local pub with his pal "Scouse" Robinson, who was wearing a new alpen style hat with a feather in it. On entering the packed bar, the landlady spotted them and bellowed across the room:

"Christ almighty, Robinson, give me that fucking hat; I want to see if I look as much of a cunt in it as you do"

btw all these bands are so unmemorable they dont even get in NME's Greatest Frontmen Ever (2011 edition) you would think some new bands frontmen would make the NME list to keep their readers interested. The best they can do is Matt Bellamy!
