Hmm, best on the list? Probably Keane, might have been Athlete if their other albums were as good as Beyond The Neighbourhood, might have been The Futureheads if they'd stopped after the first album.

Think it's Magic Numbers for me - wouldn't listen to them on purpose, but their songs are pleasant and they're refreshingly non-posey.

I can't see another chance that I'll get to recount this anecdote on ILM, so here you go:

My dad was part of the last year of National service in the UK (1960 I think), and was based in South Wales. From the way he tells it he split the time 50/50 with raining artillery shells on hillsides and getting pissed. On one occasion he went to a favourite local pub with his pal "Scouse" Robinson, who was wearing a new alpen style hat with a feather in it.
