they were def at the uhm height of their careers in 2001/01ish, same with the stereophonics
this is mumfords vs scouting tho

Should belong to SFG by rights, but fearing a strong US-backed challenge from Milquetoast & Sons
― ka£ka (NickB), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:19 (fifteen years ago)
I'm sure it's gonna be SFG.
Has a poll result been so keenly anticipated for since a long time?
― Mark G, Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:20 (fifteen years ago)
there is a lo of utter filth in this poll that isn't even going to be a contender cuz the field is so toxically strong
― fuck you jan stepek you kurwa (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:21 (fifteen years ago)
/lot
you have managed to construct a poll in which mumford and sons is my favorite option
i don't know what to say
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:22 (fifteen years ago)
thinking that unpleasantness of borrell may lift razorlight to top 3 finish
― portrait of velleity (woof), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:25 (fifteen years ago)
are we voting for best or worst, btw?
i think mine's between futureheads, for having achieved a level of critical respect that few of the other landfills did - and specifically for their most disgusting work, the kate bush cover, too; what is WRONG with people who say they like that shit - and scouting for girls, who seem to somehow still be going years after the others expired
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:27 (fifteen years ago)
worst lex
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:27 (fifteen years ago)
although id be interested to see your best.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:28 (fifteen years ago)
I'm voting for this Honey and Banana Yoghurt. Write-in vote.
Oh. Worst. Right...
― Mark G, Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:28 (fifteen years ago)
babyshambles easily least worst, occasionally even reaching the dizzying heights of mediocrity
needed to be at least one doherty band itp tho
― fuck you jan stepek you kurwa (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:30 (fifteen years ago)
I'm slowly coming round to the painful conclusion that Florence & The Machine are the best band here. Maybe Keane.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:32 (fifteen years ago)
We forgot the Dirty Pretty Things incidentally.
i think dirty pretty things forgot dirty pretty things
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:35 (fifteen years ago)
cannot abide Florence et al but that's partly down to mistakenly reading three lines of an interview with her and partly cos I really dislike the song "You've Got the Love" and y'know they made a dirge dirgier. wd probably rep for that one Enemy single above everything on here but the Rakes' first album is decent fun too.
― Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:36 (fifteen years ago)
never heard florence
she looks like a 44 yr old victorian governess, was rly amazed to find out she was so young
― fuck you jan stepek you kurwa (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:37 (fifteen years ago)
indie chancers always knock 5 years off their real age and female indie chancers often 10 because it's a sexist old game innit
― Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:39 (fifteen years ago)
nah p sure she is her stated age

Nah, Borrell's yesterday's twat, he's all but forgotten now surely? Are they still going anyway? Foghorn + the Machine are fuggin' dire. Keane are probably the best on that list!
― Tom D (Tom D.), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:42 (fifteen years ago)
the irony is, there's a picture of said twat immediately above your post!
― Neil S, Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:46 (fifteen years ago)
Best on the list?
Biffy Clyro seem underrated to me, but then I've not bought any of their stuff.
I would happily play the first Kasabian album anytime, but all the subsequent ones I don't care for.
Umm, um um.. The Wombats have a bunch of good songs on their album...
um, nope. Can't choose a best, cause that would mean they are more than 50% alright.
I thought the Coureteeners were OK, until I played their album, and got to suffering after about 4 tracks..
― Mark G, Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:46 (fifteen years ago)
In a recent interview with Teletext, Borrell announced that the band was working with Steve Lillywhite and Dave McCracken on a new record and that they were eager to get the new songs out "soon"

I really dislike the song "You've Got the Love"
The old skool mix with the breakbeats and the strings and piano breakdown is glorious. Florence's version is clearly and vastly inferior.
― Inevitable stupid dubstep mix (chap), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:50 (fifteen years ago)
i just hate the song. i really really loved "Your Love" and the Candi Statton version has always felt plodding and dirgey and dull dull fucking dull to me
― Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:53 (fifteen years ago)
just checked a lil bit of florence
shit but not really for this poll
― fuck you jan stepek you kurwa (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:54 (fifteen years ago)
least worst is...florence or keane?
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:56 (fifteen years ago)
ugh, british people british music this fucking country
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:57 (fifteen years ago)
There are two mixes of Candi Stanton version, the less widely-played one is far better/more dynamic IMO:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1wvtGOBV-g
― Inevitable stupid dubstep mix (chap), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 14:58 (fifteen years ago)
Hmm, best on the list? Probably Keane, might have been Athlete if their other albums were as good as Beyond The Neighbourhood, might have been The Futureheads if they'd stopped after the first album.
― mike t-diva, Wednesday, 23 February 2011 15:07 (fifteen years ago)
Think it's Magic Numbers for me - wouldn't listen to them on purpose, but their songs are pleasant and they're refreshingly non-posey.
― Inevitable stupid dubstep mix (chap), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 15:09 (fifteen years ago)
hang on, are we voting for best or worst here?
― territory of the magic wand (Chris), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 15:11 (fifteen years ago)
Razorlight are saved from being the worst because although Johnny Borrell is a cock, everyone in Razorlight who is not Johnny Borrell thinks that Johnny Borrell is a cock.

Johhny Borrell was the year below me at sixth form, didn't really know him but everyone thought he was a cock. And his older brother stole my mate's girlfriend.

You, guy on my left, this isn't a metal band. Johnny... ugh never mind. Whatever you wear you'll always look like a cock. Is that supposed to be a coat or a potato sack? And you on the far right? You want to dress like that, go join Kasabian.'

ok voted razorlight. think the classic-rock-star drama posturing annoys me more than gulpy kooks wetness, pigeon detective gravy rock, sfg wanking from the shadows & even fratelli mongery.

xp to Razorlight pic, again:
I can't see another chance that I'll get to recount this anecdote on ILM, so here you go:
My dad was part of the last year of National service in the UK (1960 I think), and was based in South Wales. From the way he tells it he split the time 50/50 with raining artillery shells on hillsides and getting pissed. On one occasion he went to a favourite local pub with his pal "Scouse" Robinson, who was wearing a new alpen style hat with a feather in it. On entering the packed bar, the landlady spotted them and bellowed across the room:
"Christ almighty, Robinson, give me that fucking hat; I want to see if I look as much of a cunt in it as you do"
