voted Biffy Clyro because I was an undergraduate in Scotland when they were 'blowing up' and loads of my classmates thought they were fucking indie as shit because they saw them at Fresher's Week or whatever. would prob have voted the Fratellis otherwise, but I was doing my honours stuff around that time and had little contact with their fans.

― fuck you jan stepek you kurwa (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 22 February 2011 02:52 (fifteen years ago)
Actually never heard of them.
There are some truly crap bands in the list though. Was never big on Starsailor and Stereophonics. Basically, Britpop and this kind of indie were all about tunes, and those two bands didn't have much to offer in terms of actual tunes that would build up and end up in catchy anthemic singalong choruses. They simply just didn't have the songwriting skills to write good old-fashioned pop tunes. And just playing guitar without having good tunes becomes pretty boring in the end.

Do the Mystery Jets fit in here somehow? They seem to get pitched as something a little bit arty and different, but the couple of songs I've heard have just been the same sort of mewling bumdrizzle as the rest of these fops.

Oh yeah, Ommwave! Mystery Jets are exactly the sort of shite that the Music Doctor would recommend to Pol Pot.
― ka£ka (NickB), Wednesday, 23 February 2011 09:40 (fifteen years ago)
nah but possibly worse than all of these.

We're negatively comparing them to good rock bands, Geir, not Nelly.

Surely one of these abysmal chancers has done a cover of Hot In Herre though.
Speaking of which, there aren't enough cover versions on this thread. Opening gambit:

re: razorlight/sting, as tom ewing wrote at the time: Pop scientists have searched long and heard for an individual less vocally and spiritually capable of singing reggae than Sting and finally he has appeared: well done all concerned.
