Of all the more recent live material, this is one of my least favorite songs. And I don't think they added much to it other than a kind of cliched Radiohead gloss.

OTM.

Matt DC, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:38 (fifteen years ago)

Apparently the release might be today instead of tomorrow?

Melissa W, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:38 (fifteen years ago)

Yup. Link I posted upthread is also confirmed by xl

Moka, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:43 (fifteen years ago)

Today would be good, means I can listen to it at lunchtime/on my way home rather than inflicting it on my Radiohead-hating gf tomorrow.

Matt DC, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:44 (fifteen years ago)

don't think it will be out anytime soon tho... probably in around 4 or 5 hours.

Moka, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:46 (fifteen years ago)

If it does come out today I won't be able to listen to it till tomorrow by which time this thread will have 3000 posts, the record will have been dissected to death and everyone'll be bored of it.

Well, at least the poll won't have concluded.

growing on me a bit

Melissa W, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:58 (fifteen years ago)

Anyone who ordered, check order tracking because the album is available for download right now.

Melissa W, Friday, 18 February 2011 11:07 (fifteen years ago)

Good lord, so it is. Cheers for the tip-off.

egregious fannydangling (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 18 February 2011 11:09 (fifteen years ago)

(I won't get to listen to it until tomorrow but hey)

egregious fannydangling (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 18 February 2011 11:09 (fifteen years ago)

Guessing that traffic will be that heavy that downloads won't complete until Sunday anyhow.

seminal fuiud (NickB), Friday, 18 February 2011 11:12 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, mine's already slowed to 24k (30-40 mins).

egregious fannydangling (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 18 February 2011 11:13 (fifteen years ago)

QFT... Hopefully we'll be in time to catch the second backlash!

La descente infernale (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 18 February 2011 11:14 (fifteen years ago)

The opener is sounding very much like something off The Eraser.

Inevitable stupid dubstep mix (chap), Friday, 18 February 2011 11:15 (fifteen years ago)

Shuffly slightly out of synch sounding drums, no immediate catchiness.

Inevitable stupid dubstep mix (chap), Friday, 18 February 2011 11:16 (fifteen years ago)

It needs to sound like the album cover (or have a different cover) or I will be mad.

egregious fannydangling (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 18 February 2011 11:17 (fifteen years ago)

wow, didn't expect to be hearing this tonight/ this morning.

charlie h, Friday, 18 February 2011 11:18 (fifteen years ago)

Nothing either proggy or folky so far.

Inevitable stupid dubstep mix (chap), Friday, 18 February 2011 11:33 (fifteen years ago)

jesus christ this download is slow

egregious fannydangling (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 18 February 2011 11:34 (fifteen years ago)

Distinct lack of dubstep, too.

James Mitchell, Friday, 18 February 2011 11:34 (fifteen years ago)

Ha, I must have nipped in just before the queue started. I got mine in about five minutes.

ledge, Friday, 18 February 2011 11:37 (fifteen years ago)

kind of hope this thread dies now

thomp, Friday, 18 February 2011 11:38 (fifteen years ago)

No folk, no dubstep, no shocks (so far) - sounds an awful lot like you'd expect a Radiohead record to sound.

DL, Friday, 18 February 2011 11:42 (fifteen years ago)

i'm gonna take a break from this thread starting now. i'll come back once i've given the album a few solid spins and have my own impression of it.

charlie h, Friday, 18 February 2011 11:44 (fifteen years ago)

Well it's certainly the most oblique and understated Radiohead record for a while, a retreat into vaguely solipsistic soundscapes. The second half is stronger on first listen, certainly more traditionally melodic. Not a lot to hit you over the head, it'll take me a few goes to accurately judge the actual quality of the thing.

Inevitable stupid dubstep mix (chap), Friday, 18 February 2011 11:48 (fifteen years ago)

Everett True gets the knives out

"Sorry. I succumbed. It's like Bono, minus the 'charisma'. It's rock music, minus any of those pesky dynamics you usually associate with the form. It's like those irritating buzzing flies that always come into our kitchen around 5.30pm and buzz around the trails of blood until I get the electric badminton racket out. It's drum'n'bass, watered down and made putrid for popular consumption. It's rock music as mime: all the posturing and none of the substance. Or humour. It's rock music as midlife crisis: premature and unwanted. It's rock music as mud: grey, formless, useless. It's Radiohead. And I do not like it."

Number None, Friday, 18 February 2011 11:54 (fifteen years ago)

37 minutes to form a pre-conceived opinion. Not even I know what I think yet.

Melissa W, Friday, 18 February 2011 11:55 (fifteen years ago)

Does Everett True generally not like experimentation or innovation? It's rather nice & fresh indeed, imho.

StanM, Friday, 18 February 2011 11:56 (fifteen years ago)

Another contribution to an already overheated discourse. It's like Kanye all over again.

Matt DC, Friday, 18 February 2011 11:57 (fifteen years ago)

(Sorry, that was aimed at Everett True rather than StanM)

Matt DC, Friday, 18 February 2011 11:58 (fifteen years ago)

This album has nothing to do with drum n bass.

Inevitable stupid dubstep mix (chap), Friday, 18 February 2011 11:59 (fifteen years ago)

I had no expections of this anyway, and listening to it now I realize that was probably the right way to go into it.

Seems harsh to criticise Everett True for being Everett True, when he's criticising Radiohead for...being Radiohead.
