"why don't you cook me dinner like tyler does?"

teenage cream (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 17 February 2011 22:07 (fifteen years ago)

i would think if they hate ICP even more reason to go and do it and just fuck shit up
plus the money HAS to be good

Let the Light Come in From the Dark, Superman (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 17 February 2011 22:08 (fifteen years ago)

pretty sure most gathering performers dont like icp

ice cr?m, Thursday, 17 February 2011 22:09 (fifteen years ago)

they also have the no girls will ever like them problem holding them back

I don't get this conclusion at all

eh chix usually arent that into agressive tuneless music, maybe youve never noticed because youre not a girl

ice cr?m, Thursday, 17 February 2011 22:18 (fifteen years ago)

i got a thing for swag cru and i can't let go (tpp), Thursday, 17 February 2011 22:22 (fifteen years ago)

if u seriously wanna argue that girls only like pretty non-threatening music with nice melodies please take it out of the OF thread

i got a thing for swag cru and i can't let go (tpp), Thursday, 17 February 2011 22:23 (fifteen years ago)

are those the only two types of music, thank you for that info

ice cr?m, Thursday, 17 February 2011 22:23 (fifteen years ago)

These guys are great imo

reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Thursday, 17 February 2011 22:29 (fifteen years ago)

it's not even like OF are that extreme in terms of the rap hyper-masculinity spectrum. i know quite a few girls who dig OF but not a single girl who likes waka for instance. tyler's album is completely emo and imo demonstrates 'sophisticated musical ability'. yeah they are a rap band so they will have more male fans at this point but a successful crossover and who knows? would you have said eminem had the 'no girls will ever like him' problem at the start of his career?

i got a thing for swag cru and i can't let go (tpp), Thursday, 17 February 2011 22:33 (fifteen years ago)

i guess what i'm trying to say is that in my world of female people tyler, the creator is fairly popular

i got a thing for swag cru and i can't let go (tpp), Thursday, 17 February 2011 22:36 (fifteen years ago)

this was eminems 1st single

sorry I just don't accept this dichotomy. the aggressive thing okay maybe. tuneless? depends how you define tuneless. cuz evidently there are loads of women who like tuneless top 40 r&b garbage

this is a stupid discussion

ullr saves (gbx), Thursday, 17 February 2011 22:46 (fifteen years ago)

one of the main reasons i like tyler so much is the emotional breadth on 'bastard' and i'm not saying that should necessarily make him popular with the ladies but if you've actually listened to his music i don't see why you'd label him 'aggressive' over anything else.

i still think it's hilarious that j0rdan thinks Kanye's fanbase is 5% female. even in a sausage party like Pazz & Jop the MBDTF votership appears to be at least 10% female.

Somewhere around 10%, which isn't far off the average for live non-mainstream hip hop shows.

thank u for making blanket observations about women's musical tastes when even an aspie shut in nerd like me can at least see that there are loud, "aggressive" acts out there with huge female fan bases. marilyn manson? korn? dumb, loud drum and bass like pendulum et al?

point is i mentioned two musical qualities in combination you took one then cherry picked some bands that still have predominantly male fanbases, but w/e i have already RESTED MY CASE!

ice cr?m's world of female people (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 17 February 2011 22:59 (fifteen years ago)

The females who were at the show who weren't already familiar with them thought they were "adorable", I think most women perceive Chris Brown as a lot more threatening than OFWGKTA.

ps they did not rape anyone at the show

i think any big rap radio fixture has a huge female audience and that that isn't significantly more true of Drake than Kanye or Wayne as you might think

on some outer space shit (bernard snowy), Thursday, 17 February 2011 23:33 (fifteen years ago)

but yeah I agree, they are not really a hard group to like, and yr average female music fan in 2k11 is not _that_ much more likely to be turned off by jokes about rape and murder than yr average male music fan

on some outer space shit (bernard snowy), Thursday, 17 February 2011 23:35 (fifteen years ago)

im sick of talking abt this and would prefer to move onto new aspects i dislike abt this group but i wasnt referring to the rape jokes as far as things that turn off chix, although those are certainly lame and in poor taste

ice cr?m, Thursday, 17 February 2011 23:40 (fifteen years ago)

I like this comment from the Salon article:

What is to be done about this "Too Live Crew"?

If we allow them to be as "nasty as they want to be" what does that say about our society?

Wait, I'm sorry...

What I meant to say was "What is to be done about this Elvis Presley?"

ice cr?m trolling not entirely offtm but thing is you've just walked into a room full of shirtless dudes drinking shitty beer & bonding over aggressive rap music your lofty notions of girls & consumerism don't hold much weight here

flopson, Friday, 18 February 2011 00:19 (fifteen years ago)

it's hilarious that that level of fretting is even being done about the 'mainstream' acceptance of a group for whom it was that big a deal to be on TV for a few minutes at 1:25am. (xpost)
