Carson Daly just called Yelawolf a gangsta rapper. o_O

well signing w/ XL not only suits who their actual fanbase is (at least at the moment) but for real i don't wish a major label on ANY rappers in 2011, let alone a group that needs to control their aesthetic & music as completely as OF
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 17 February 2011 08:24 (1 hour ago) Bookmark
Only Tyler is signed to XL, yes?
It reminds me of Radiohead being on XL and the room that allows them to do other ventures and internet stuff etc. and to me it seems like something similar will be going on, just at entry level with ofwgkta. Like "Do what you want where you want and as long as its dope and as long as you come to us with something you actually want help with physical distribution and some insider ad work/connections (like tv appearances) then cool bro. Oh and hey we both may just end up making some money as well."

Tyler said he just did a one-album deal with them.
― banjee trillness (The Reverend), Thursday, 17 February 2011 11:41 (fifteen years ago)
yea i thought this was pretty dope; that song doesnt work as well w/ all the edits
i got up ~5 mins early to watch it before i went to work...then watched it like 3 times and am 10 mins late to work
who was the redhead guest
― johnny crunch, Thursday, 17 February 2011 12:11 (fifteen years ago)
red head looked familiar. black guy guest didn't. once i see her name it will become super obvious.
i thought it was dope, although i wish the roots contributed more than ?uest and a horn.

This from an article by Noz in The Wire
"His college professor mother was coincidentally recommended Odd Future by a student and, needless to say, was displeased to find her own son rapping about raping. This, compunded by a minor trespassing arrest (he and Tyler snuck into school after hours to film a skate video), inspired her to send him 'somewhere' - to relatives if not to a boot camp."

I get what icey's saying in that there's a fanboy vibe up in here, but that's cool cuz I haven't heard shit, especially rap shit, that made me wanna be a fanboy in a long time
on the other hand his attitude towards OF makes me think icey hates america and all she stands for

in the 6 month life of this thread tyler went from giving out his albums on internet forums to manhandling jimmy fallon, if you think that is a story that's gonna make ppl who were digging OF's music sit back and stroke their beards thoughtfully well w/e

yeah i know all the rumours but i always assumed once OF blew up to the point of being on tv his parents would be like 'oh shit maybe it's worth letting him pursue this' but good on them for sticking to their principles i suppose?

they've remained firmly entrenched in the underground scene, in part because of the group's anti-conformity ethos, but mostly because until recently, no music critic valuing their job wanted to sing the praises of songs that included lyrics like "I'm opening a church to sell coke and Led Zeppelin/To fuck Mary in her ass" and "We go skate, rape sluts, and eat donuts from Randy's."
uh huh
look at it from this perspective, you've got a teenage son, he's hanging around with an adult who is getting him into legal trouble for breaking into buildings and also making him internet famous as the raping rapper, yeah I can understand an embargo enforced by a concerned parent more than I can "hells yes make my kid famous no matter what"
not saying it's the right thing to do, prolly many other ways to handle this situation, but I *understand*
xps
