Mos Def is basically the David Bowie of rap where anytime some new group is on the come up he's there to make sure you know he's still with it

yeah that was kinda neat kinda anticlimactic, mainly it's just cool that a late nite show picked them up this early in their lifecycle

well, on the other hand he could be doing BET ciphers w/ cyhi da prynce, kid cudi and big sean, so i think stanning for odd future is aight

it was much better as a visual & statement than a performance, which is probably to be expected -- but ski masks + studio rampage were all worth it

fallon himself is pretty funny yeah but the show is seriously god awful

like, i've never seen a late night show or really any comedy show rely so heavily on 'audience participation' in lieu of writing jokes -- like, "dance your hat and gloves off" is really a thing they put on TV as a whole segment? ban jimmy fallon

and EVERY show is like that, at least the ones i've seen -- spin a carpet sample wheel, throw hot dogs thru a hole in a piece of poster board etc etc it's not even comedy

I actually like that about 25% of the show is crowd sourced humor, but this is totally the wrong thread to get into this.

idk i find the mos def thing kind of endearing -- him and tyler had a nice hug at the end there

watching again it was actually a pretty awesome performance -- there's always this weird thing when you have performers w/ tons of energy in a staid TV setting like this, but also because the whole thing was genuinely weird & halting even if you're completely familiar w/ odd future

but it was still pretty great, hurt mostly by the fact that they were doing a song on TV that was never meant to be edited in any fashion

i get good vibes from this thread. imo this is less ilm teenpop than most rap threads bc lots of posters who generally arent into the more populist gangsta rap stuff that they are made to feel guilty for not liking are into it too, its like a rare common ground

if i had to go back and c&p all the strange teen fascination posts in this thread it would be like a quarter of them - and the music is so lame and spazzy

honestly i'm a big driving force behind big sprawling fanboy threads like this one & the-dream thread & the gucci thread and i'm proud of all of them & cherish how they're able to chart what i & other posters feel about incredibly important music to me in real time & i would never consider posting in another fashion

& i think all those threads have some of the best actual discussion on ilm since i've been reading at least

the dream and gucci make at least worthwhile music this shit is just the corpse of awful 90s no skill undie rap - and thats sort of reflected in the fact that theres not that much talk abt the qualities of the music these kids make - but there is a lot of omg sooo crazy - its just distasteful

oh, hmm...my gripe with Odd Future isn't the music at all, it's the omg sooo crazy vocals (which are most stupid than crazy).
