^ I use to use those CD wallets back in the day. Made all of my CDs unplayable after awhile iirc.

musicfanatic, Thursday, 17 February 2011 02:10 (fifteen years ago)

With the In Rainbows release they sent out the download e-mails in waves, I think I got mine at like 5 in the morning.

phantompenguin, Thursday, 17 February 2011 02:18 (fifteen years ago)

there were like weekly tragedies in high school where someone-or-other's CD wallet would get stolen. it happened so often i always stayed away from them.

this thread has been living hell but i'm heavily anticipating this.

Jim
American Pop Culture is sickening. One of the greatest bands ever, Radiohead, will release a new album Saturday and it wont get 1/100th the fanfare a new Justin Bieber single would.

lol this was definitely a thing. mine was actually a CD lozenge. like literally an ovaloid (z) disc (x,y) that accordioned into storage. i bought two of them.

once i figured out that discmans (men?) were allowed in certain school situations (bus, should you be bussing; study hall; between class; lunch if w/e), i just brought the thing with me

It seems the strongest and one of the most rehearsed of the unreleased songs is 'present tense'. There's several live recordings of it around the internet.
Johnny has used an instrumental version of it on his upcoming 'Norwegian Wood' soundtrack so this either means they really like the song or maybe they were deciding on removing it and Johnny rescued it to use it there.

Moka, Thursday, 17 February 2011 08:57 (fifteen years ago)

Check out recordings of full song in Mexico city and of Thom playing it solo:

http://www.citizeninsane.eu/thepresenttense.html

Might be the echo-y quality but music sounds Sigur Ros-ian.

A rather slow day of updates, but Radiohead posted a tweet today:

渋谷 ハチ公広場 金曜日 18時59分

which google translates as

Hachiko Square Shibuya, 59 minutes at 18 Friday

I'm guessing 18 is for the hour and not for the date, so:

18:59:00 Friday February 18, 2011 in Japan converts to
09:59:00 Friday February 18, 2011 in GMT

Moka, Thursday, 17 February 2011 18:05 (fifteen years ago)

Hey I just remembered the webcasts they did after In Rainbows, I hope they do some of that again this time. Those were really fun.

phantompenguin, Thursday, 17 February 2011 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

Xpost are you saying that's when they'd release the mp3s? Seems more likely that they'd play a show there.

you are taking me apart, Lisa! (Z S), Thursday, 17 February 2011 18:58 (fifteen years ago)

Nope I have the suspicion they will either broadcast some sort of announcement on the big screens at Hachiko square or even more probably (and better!) do a webcast like the ones they did for IR and Kid A.

Moka, Thursday, 17 February 2011 19:02 (fifteen years ago)

Hachiko square has too much affluence... doesn't seem like an adequate place for shows. There's loads of screens in there tho so they might have rented some seconds to broadcast.

Okay so allegedly whatever's happening in Japan is in three hours.

The only thing that's stopping me preordering this (mp3) album is the chance of DRM.

egregious fannydangling (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 18 February 2011 07:04 (fifteen years ago)

Radiohead event in Shibuya cancelled due to safety concerns. Website broadcast planned. http://bit.ly/gR6DYR

" People bummed about the Radiohead non-event can enjoy a "special online thingummy" here at 18:59: http://thekingoflimbs.jp "

sam500, Friday, 18 February 2011 08:03 (fifteen years ago)

Radiohead don't believe in DRM, Autumn Almanac. And In Rainbows did not have DRM.

egregious fannydangling (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 18 February 2011 08:45 (fifteen years ago)

So apparently I wasn't that off on my prediction. They were set to broadcast 6 minutes of something in one of the screens on Shibuya but apparently it has been cancelled and instead they'll do some sort of webcast from the japanese website. Anyone interested I suppose will get to see something over here in an hour:
https://thekingoflimbs.jp/index.php

Moka, Friday, 18 February 2011 09:07 (fifteen years ago)

Dissapointed about the Shibuya thing, the whole thing sounded like a brilliant marketing tactic. Maybe too good in fact... apparently they didn't expect such a crazed response from fans... even the japanese government got concerned.

Moka, Friday, 18 February 2011 09:12 (fifteen years ago)

what, that they might not have been able to see from where they would have been standing?

Apparently a video to Lotus Flower.

Moka, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:02 (fifteen years ago)

so this is not really their folk / prog record but their disco funk record it seems.

Moka, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:03 (fifteen years ago)

I honestly don't know what I just watched.

Melissa W, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:05 (fifteen years ago)

I like it!!

Great video, great tune, A+ dance moves

La descente infernale (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 18 February 2011 10:07 (fifteen years ago)

Well I loved the song but I don't think he's much of a dancer to support a whole video of it, still love it. Also jamiroquai has better hats.

Moka, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:07 (fifteen years ago)

I like the song and love the fact that he obviously couldn't give a flying fuck about looking like an idiot.

nate woolls, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:07 (fifteen years ago)

Doesn't sound too much like Radiohead tho... it's closer to Thom Yorke's solo stuff.

Moka, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:08 (fifteen years ago)

I'd welcome that sound on this album tbh

La descente infernale (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 18 February 2011 10:09 (fifteen years ago)

Of all the more recent live material, this is one of my least favorite songs. And I don't think they added much to it other than a kind of cliched Radiohead gloss.

Matt DC, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:38 (fifteen years ago)

Apparently the release might be today instead of tomorrow?

Yup. Link I posted upthread is also confirmed by xl

Moka, Friday, 18 February 2011 10:43 (fifteen years ago)

Today would be good, means I can listen to it at lunchtime/on my way home rather than inflicting it on my Radiohead-hating gf tomorrow.
