Okay, so, yesterday I interviewed Ben...
...today, Ben interviews me.
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 19:45 (fifteen years ago)
OMG Ned wins the universe
A+
― Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Tuesday, 15 February 2011 19:50 (fifteen years ago)
Give yourself credit, you were the one who suggested it!
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 19:51 (fifteen years ago)
there was a random suggestion on ILX saying that Ben should interview me, which I passed along to him more as a random joke than anything. But by god if Ben didn’t ask me a set of great questions
O_O !!!!!!!!
― Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Tuesday, 15 February 2011 19:52 (fifteen years ago)
What do you think about every music writer comparing every acoustic guitar player to John Fahey as if he had the greatest influence on everyone? Isn’t this the same sort of critical reductionism that would not be allowed in any sort of serious art journal? Wouldn’t that be the equivalent of comparing every abstract artist to Picasso? Or closer to home, perhaps comparing every single music writer to Lester Bangs? Does this sort of non-crtitcal thinking have a detrimental effect on how others view the importance of music criticism? Am I leading the witness? What do you think?
my hero

btw, did you actually mention ILX to Ben? wonder if he will visit/read/post?
― Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Tuesday, 15 February 2011 19:58 (fifteen years ago)
I've no idea! It's up to him.
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 20:34 (fifteen years ago)
he seems smart-- like, ned raggett level smart, could recite digits of pi ad infinitum level smart
we could use more smart ilx posters imo
― Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Tuesday, 15 February 2011 20:46 (fifteen years ago)
i realize i am part of the problem btw before anyone says so ^_____^
― Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Tuesday, 15 February 2011 20:47 (fifteen years ago)

nice tidbit from yr interview ilxor: I always have a big space in my heart for, like, Nikki Sudden, you know? For me it kind of satisfies that little itch. I always wanted to be in a band like that.that makes me excited!
― tylerw, Thursday, 24 February 2011 17:06 (fifteen years ago)
me too!
― Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Thursday, 24 February 2011 17:10 (fifteen years ago)
really liking this so far. "dawn, running home" is reminding me of early tyrannosaurus rex. ben even sounds a little like marc on downers
― reggie (qualmsley), Friday, 25 February 2011 17:34 (fifteen years ago)
the rest is very nice too but 's/word' is amazing.
― j., Sunday, 27 February 2011 08:58 (fifteen years ago)
Chasny played an excellent acoustic set last night in New York. I really haven't seen him live as much as I'd like to. Has anyone heard the 200 Years stuff, his duo with Elisa from Magik Markers? Markers played an earlier set so I was hoping for a team up but no such luck.
― Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Saturday, 5 March 2011 17:04 (fifteen years ago)
it was a lot more boring in the light of day. : ( and on my proper headphones—the added bottom end made it all atmospheric and took away the concentratedness of the droning from the saz.
― j., Saturday, 5 March 2011 20:02 (fifteen years ago)
loving this new record, listened to it like eight times this week.
― sleeve, Saturday, 5 March 2011 21:21 (fifteen years ago)

this sounds awesome.
― tylerw, Monday, 23 May 2011 16:14 (fifteen years ago)
should i go see this band in a few weeks? i think so, but would like to know if there is a compelling reason not to.
― it was pleasant and delightful, just like (La Lechera), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 23:00 (fourteen years ago)
You absolutely should go. No question.
Ben was also nice enough to send me something through the mail lately that fans of his will want to keep an eye out for.
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 2 August 2011 23:10 (fourteen years ago)
Ok! It's already on my calendar. This means I have to set about convincing someone to join me. It'll tide me over until the Swans show a few weeks later (!!!!)
― it was pleasant and delightful, just like (La Lechera), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 23:14 (fourteen years ago)
ned, braggin' :)i'd love to see this guy but he never plays in colorado! weak. that live set posted above is lovely.
― tylerw, Wednesday, 3 August 2011 21:39 (fourteen years ago)
THANK YOU to this thread, bc I checked on his tour and found out he's playing in town next friday. my favorite dude right here.
― surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Thursday, 4 August 2011 15:15 (fourteen years ago)
all depends who he's playing with though
― ban this sick stunt (anagram), Thursday, 4 August 2011 15:23 (fourteen years ago)
current tour is solo iirc
― tylerw, Thursday, 4 August 2011 15:23 (fourteen years ago)
best show I've ever seen him do was a duo with elisa ambrogio. also, put alex neilson on drums behind him and sparks will result.
― ban this sick stunt (anagram), Thursday, 4 August 2011 15:25 (fourteen years ago)
yeah i guess this 200 Years collab w/ ambrogio hasn't come out? they had it slated for spring of this year.http://www.dragcity.com/news/254
― tylerw, Thursday, 4 August 2011 15:34 (fourteen years ago)
i wonder who else is coming on this tour? i don't recognize the opening bands.
― it was pleasant and delightful, just like (La Lechera), Thursday, 4 August 2011 16:46 (fourteen years ago)
Saw him years ago in Kansas City, all alone, local openers. One of the most memorable shows I've ever been to.
― Trip Maker, Thursday, 4 August 2011 16:47 (fourteen years ago)
saw him open for om with a solo set and shitheads talked over it all. could barely hear the guy. :-/
― original bgm, Thursday, 4 August 2011 16:48 (fourteen years ago)
same night - some aggro guy also slammed into this peaceful, stoned longhair that was grooving to om and sent him flying. there was no pit, they guy basically just charged right into him. people suck.
― original bgm, Thursday, 4 August 2011 16:51 (fourteen years ago)
Where do you live? I went to a sold out OM show and everyone waited patiently throughout a 40 minute solo drone set from Lichens.
― Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Thursday, 4 August 2011 16:53 (fourteen years ago)
lol, brooklyn
― original bgm, Thursday, 4 August 2011 17:14 (fourteen years ago)
Huh that's interesting I missed that last tour (Six Organs/OM) I think that show was at Europa? I live in BK too now, but the show I was referring to was in SF. Maybe the old cliche is true that Bay Area audiences are just more stoned and docile. I have no compunction about telling people to shut the fuck up at shows.
― Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Thursday, 4 August 2011 17:16 (fourteen years ago)
dunno, i mean i can see people going to a six organs show maybe expecting a more loud, psych-y blowout thing, if they weren't very familiar with the records. since he plays w/ loud psych-y blowout bands like rangda and comets on fire...
― tylerw, Thursday, 4 August 2011 17:20 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, it was the europa show. not my fave venue for sure.
I guess I saw lichens there too but I honestly don't remember how that went down. but the whole place was talking over the six organs set, wasn't just a couple folks. v. annoying. aggro mosher was the icing on the cake.
x-post
― original bgm, Thursday, 4 August 2011 17:25 (fourteen years ago)
and I don't really think a quiet set is any reason to talk over someone. if anything, it's much worse! and lots of the six organs material is very mellow.
― original bgm, Thursday, 4 August 2011 17:27 (fourteen years ago)
saw this tonight, it was awesomeconvinced people to go with me (2!)whoa can he can play -- so captivating to watch/hear now i am going to bed
