this new p4rk column on mixtapes basically cements gun sounds and post-waka as the critic narrative for early 2011. WE DID IT
he even says "post-Flocka. "
― surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 16:50 (fifteen years ago)
it's a big love letter to gun sounds
even if he calls waka "jarringly inept"
― surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 16:52 (fifteen years ago)
yea i was kinda -_- at that
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 February 2011 16:59 (fifteen years ago)
the characterization about gunplay is weird only in that a major reason why it's great is bcuz you expect it to be all flocka'd out but he's really not that kind of MC
if anything it's the tape that tom should be pointing at as the one that uses waka as a base point for something, if not unique, then at least identifiable

Looking forward to the new Blueprint album. And he is touring with Atmosphere, who also has a new album I want to check out.

welcome
what's the "new blueprint album"?
― kl0p's son (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 16 February 2011 19:40 (fifteen years ago)
yeah i like the new blueprint stuff i've heard
also: nycnative, all rhymesayers stuff kinda has "cooties" as far as the goon thread is concerned

― NYCNative, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 20:11 (fifteen years ago)
that p4k thing read rly awkwardly, like an encyclopedia entry about the rituals of a remote civilization or something. i can see why he's a popular writer for ppl still hesitant abt gangsta rap tho. that juicy j tape is so great. lex luger is a p great producer but it's absurd that he has a critical profile while drumma boi & zaytoven remain unknowns -- p sure this opinion is str8 plagiarism (deej maybe) but it deserves to be restated
― flopson, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 20:23 (fifteen years ago)
yes, also because drumma boy has had many more high profile tracks than "hard in da paint"/"bmf", at least in terms of charts & all that -- i think both big lex beats are epically good, but i'm not sure why the rap world/other rappers latched onto them so hard (in terms of freestyles & stuff)
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 February 2011 20:27 (fifteen years ago)
also drumma is probably the most diverse producer in the south
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 February 2011 20:28 (fifteen years ago)
like, dude has more crossover r&b hits than bangladesh & tho he's no polow in terms of diversity (i.e. couldn't see drumma doing singles for fergie) his body of work is arguably stronger, & it certainly is from a rap standpoint
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 February 2011 20:30 (fifteen years ago)
we should do a drummer boy pox
― flopson, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 20:31 (fifteen years ago)
would prob be 80% gucci trax, but i support his endeavor
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 February 2011 20:32 (fifteen years ago)
haha alright -- ill start it later going to work on my list
― flopson, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 20:35 (fifteen years ago)
btw i meant to say "this endeavor"
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 February 2011 20:37 (fifteen years ago)
altho i do support "his endeavor" as it relates to drumma boy
Drumma has so many jams, and so many that aren't Gucci.
definitely ridic for Luger to have the profile he does when you think of the great producers with more impressive resumes who've never had that kinda name recognition.

ha, m@tt that's a great interview -- <3 ice t
altho i must say that i'm disappointed that you didn't ask him if he'd ever played soulja boy's second life game
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 February 2011 20:56 (fifteen years ago)
prob not like you could reach him or anything & he's not really the best interview (weed & such) but soulja boy is suuuuuuch a nerd when it comes to video games like RPGs & anime games & shit (tho idk if y'all cover that)
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 16 February 2011 20:57 (fifteen years ago)
we cover a little anime but not much, obv rpgs, but yeah honestly i had limited time and i'm trying to write for a p mass audience that doesn't know anything about the soulja boy stuff, also, like when i actually got on the phone with him i was pretty in awe, just hearing his voice and stuff. i wouldn't have the balls to ask him stuff like that tbh
he was very nice and very responsive to all my emails, the whole thing only took like a day to set up and get done.

I play with Lord Jamar from Brand Nubian – he’s in SMG. Xzibit is in SMG. Warren G is in SMG. There’s different people from all over the world. The leader of my clan, he’s named Coleman, he’s from Liverpool, England.
:D this is so awesome

Great interview Matt! Love this:Go into a crack house, and they might have a video game! There’s nothing I’ve found that really burns time like video games. I’ve always said that if you put games in the prison system, cats would get out of jail and be like, “Hold up, I gotta go finish this level.”
