bad romance just gives me a headache i liked the HALA dub of it tho

plax (ico), Thursday, 10 February 2011 23:39 (fifteen years ago)

If a remix would qualify for the poll, I'd go with the Stuart Price remix of "Paparazzi" which is one guitar overdub away from being a long lost chillwave/NDW pop sensation. I like it more than the original.

"So Happy I Could Die" should have been a single release instead of "Alejandro" - tremendously great song that doesn't get namechecked that often.

Voted "Bad Romance" - about as unstoppable as an asteroid strike.

The very anonymity of "Just Dance" is attractive in retrospect -- like listening to Madonna's "Everybody" in 1986 and trying to divine how she became so massive.

She's still not as good a songwriter as Madonna was in 1985: she has a problem with either lame choruses or pedestrian verses. To me only "Alejandro" and "Just Dance" are complete in themselves.

Rich Lolwry (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 11 February 2011 00:25 (fifteen years ago)

You and I is promising now, but it is going to be incredible with bombastic Speechless-style production.

^^oh totally. unsurprisingly, i love it

happy in the club wit a bottle of red wine

eh-eh, eh-eh
so happy i could die and it's alright

alejandro's tepid homage-ination is laughable in comparison to early madonna, dear lord

i like lucy (surm), Friday, 11 February 2011 01:06 (fifteen years ago)

problem with the Fame Monster is I bought it during a very low point for me last year, which just so happens to correspond with a breakdown I had one night, so every time I put the cd on, those memories come back.

they should fade over time tho so it can be a fun album again and all.

werner herzog zwei (San Te), Friday, 11 February 2011 02:15 (fifteen years ago)

"Bad Romance" it is. But many really strong ones.

You're Twistin' My Melody Man! (Geir Hongro), Friday, 11 February 2011 02:28 (fifteen years ago)

As for "Speechless" it really should have been a single. Not least because, while great, her songs are all very stylistically related. With "Speechless" she might have had a completely different hit single, which would probably do her career good in terms of becoming long term.

Madonna would never have managed to stay on top for almost 30 years now if all of her subsequent 80s hit singles had sounded like "Holiday".

Just Dance in a walk for me.

I can't believe I agree with Geir. "Speechless" is her best song imo.

However, "Paparazzi" was when I finally gave up and started to like her. I personally think her first album is patchy as hell and like to think Monster is the real debut.

Another thing I find funny is that Gaga and others who take from Madonna really don't actually change their image or concepts from album to album. Closest I can think of is P!nk. I hope Gaga does something different image wise.

Wanted to slap a teengaer who didn't know Are You That Somebody (lilsoulbrother), Friday, 11 February 2011 03:20 (fifteen years ago)

what does everyone consider the 'duddiest' tracks on The Fame?

For me, it's "Beautiful, Dirty, Rich" (real boring hook), "Money Honey" (again, boring hook, and verse melody that is ok except for the last few notes), and "Boys Boys Boys" (meh)

werner herzog zwei (San Te), Friday, 11 February 2011 03:30 (fifteen years ago)

my #1 is probably "telephone" but i'm gonna show "just dance" some love for being the not-so-secret proto-"telephone" song in gaga's arsenal ("i lost my phone / just dance / it'll be okay")

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Friday, 11 February 2011 05:17 (fifteen years ago)

"telephone" for its two great videos, the original and the one done by the soldiers in Afghanistan

"Alejandro" = "Bad Romance" =/> "Telephone" >>> "Paparazzi" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "Just Dance" > "Poker Face" > "Ey Ey" >>>>>>>>>>>> "Love Game"

still think the closest we've got to that was xtina's stripped campaign, when she completely upended her image on every single (the album itself being a lot more homogeneous (but great!) than this indicated).

i kind of agree that "speechless" should have been a single too, for much the same reasons :/

I guess she, and whatever people she may take those decisions together with, felt that it was too early.

After all, it did take Madonna a couple years before she took the chance on doing "Crazy For You" and "Live To Tell" as well.

Haven't heard it yet.

Lady Gaga wanted to JUST DANCE, but the PAPARAZZI showed up, so she put on her POKER FACE, and picked up the TELEPHONE to call ALEJANDRO, she told him about living THE FAME, and he was SPEECHLESS. She said they arent playing my LOVE GAME and hung up, someone yelled MONSTER at their boyfriend and she said now thats some BAD ROMANCE then shrugged it off saying EH EH (NOTHING ELSE I CAN SAY) BOYS BOYS BOYS who were BEAUTIFUL DIRTY RICH, She was in DISCO HEAVEN, and said im SO HAPPY I COULD DIE

Of fucking course. Christina has changed her image every album thus far. Why did that blindside me. Scrap what I said about P!nk. Christina is the only one fulfilling the Madonaa mold and she is being underrated because the media has gotten dumber by the days.

to be fair back to basics was...decent but not GREAT, and bionic was just an incoherent mess of an album - kind of feel like xtina squandered that potential herself (really it just felt like she lost a bit of interest in making music, like justin did)

lex pretend, Friday, 11 February 2011 18:39 (fifteen years ago)

uh ....

i like lucy (surm), Friday, 11 February 2011 18:40 (fifteen years ago)

yeah. christina is not filling any madonna mold.

i like lucy (surm), Friday, 11 February 2011 18:40 (fifteen years ago)

she is being rated just fine bc she has gotten dumber by the year.

i like lucy (surm), Friday, 11 February 2011 18:40 (fifteen years ago)

basically what lex said. bionic was basically trying to be everything to everybody, so you couldn't take any of it seriously. it was like a monkey imitating all the other monkeys. and how bout that single she had before it -- "keeps gettin better" ?

that was like her big moment? after back to basics?

some days i'm a super BITCH.... some days you're a super bore, honey.

i like lucy (surm), Friday, 11 February 2011 18:41 (fifteen years ago)

otm i like keeps gettin better but mostly cuz it reminds me of girls aloud and would prob be better by 10x if they wrote it in their heyday

johnny crunch, Friday, 11 February 2011 18:52 (fifteen years ago)

I ♥ Bad Romance sooo much

i like lucy (surm), Saturday, 12 February 2011 07:11 (fifteen years ago)

I like Bionic for it's big ass mess I suppose because it had a little bit of everything. To bitch that it was overlong and all over the place can be said of all her albums from Stripped on. Bionic was her overlong, all over the place version of late 00s pop. But since I like her voice I liked it more than usual.

Plus, her record label was scared shitless of the more "experimental" tracks being on the main tracklist so they were relegated to bonus tracks land.

I think because everyone was on such a Lady Gaga high attacking Christina was the "thing" to do. As well as hating on Lady Gaga is right now with "Born This Way."

she is being rated just fine bc she has gotten dumber by the year.

Has ilxor always been this Perez Hilton like catty or have I been just speed reading the threads too much?

Okay Pet Shop Boys Aren't That Bad. (lilsoulbrother), Saturday, 12 February 2011 09:01 (fifteen years ago)

Oh and the first side of Back to Basics was more than decent. To get Rich Harrison, DJ Premier, Kwame, & Mark Ronson on the same album was good on her and her labels part.

Okay Pet Shop Boys Aren't That Bad. (lilsoulbrother), Saturday, 12 February 2011 09:06 (fifteen years ago)

oh please. insinuating that i am negative when it comes to pop music is a joke. i ride no kind of trend high -- i think for myself, and i happen to think that Bionic has more than a tinge of desperation to its lack of focus -- in the same way that Back to Basics is way too homogenous in its focus to be considered truly genuine. it's awfully ballsy to go around accusing ilxors of forming an opinion because it's the thing to do - ilxors are a pretty smart bunch. i would think twice before making that kind of claim.

word to that, most of her other videos are either kinda boring or overloaded with overt attempts to be WTF or 'funny'. as much as i hate "Poker Face" it's probably her 2nd best video, although a very distant runner-up.

And when I meant hating on Christina or Lady Gaga is the thing to do I meant more pop music/gawker-like forums doing that. I never doubted the intelligence of the posters here. I have always respected the opinions of people here even though I disagree with them. I didn't know ILM was such serious business.

to repeat my question. how good is the second cd of the Fame Monster?

gospodin simmel, Saturday, 12 February 2011 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

The second cd of the Fame Monster is ten times better than the first one. Due to it being shorter and having a little more diverse in sound.
