firstworldman (firstworldman), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

just click the link and wait for about 46 seconds.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

it isn't always that simple, I think, but I got it.

I can e-mail it. where to?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I understand Ronan's concern about this being a Prodigy regurge, but really, it's MUCH MORE than that. I f*cking love it. One thing to note is how well an unknown track seemed to go down at that party video above.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i would love it if you emailed it to the address i have here... i clicked the link and waited 2 minutes 3 times and nothing happened...

firstworldman (firstworldman), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

this is the first 4 bars of Breakwater's "release the beast" repeted about 20 times. Totally pathetic.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Pathetically awesome!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

hopefully finishing the album will free up time for mr. de homem-christo to bombard us with le knight club 12s.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i wonder if they listen to RATATAT??

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

HERETIC DIE DIE DIE

donut christ (donut), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

(that was actually an Emo Philips quote meant as a joke.. but still.. the idea of Daft Punk emulating those 'tards... sigh)

donut christ (donut), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

ts: gallic dance guitars vs gallo-alike NY tards

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds pretty good to me! And rather better than RATATAT. ;-)

Sorta reminds of an ECC track gone full-on dance instead of being art-project.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahaha I love this. I've just heard it 5 times in a row!

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

well, "Robot Rock" doesn't have that vapid proggy feel that all those Ratatat songs seemed to have.. live at least. And I'd assume Daft Punk doesn't hit blinding floor lights 10 times a song and do "rock out faces" live.

donut christ (donut), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course they don't do rock out faces, they're ROBOTS!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

lol

and xpost
lol

ratatat are so lame.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha i didn't like RATATAT until i saw them on that tour!

but seriously the parisian underground is sort of dominated right now by, um, let's call it the "gooom disques" sound, and i know ratatat is really popular with that crowd, and daft punk aren't auteurs working in a vacuum, and so...

vahid (vahid), Friday, 21 January 2005 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i guess compared to "aerodynamic" this is a step away from that sound ... hey, i'll bet RATATAT are into daft punk!!

vahid (vahid), Friday, 21 January 2005 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

There is absolutely nothing about "Robot Rock" that reminds me of Ratatat, now RATT is another story!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 21 January 2005 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't stop playing this song! ROCK! ROBOT ROCK!!! Aargh!

JoB (JoB), Friday, 21 January 2005 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

After one listen I was humming it to myself all the way back home on the bus. A GOOD SIGN.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 21 January 2005 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Doing the lead single as something similarly inclined to "One More Time" would have been a wrong move, I think. This is more, how you say if you are 808 State, inyerface.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 21 January 2005 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah it's great but I definitely think its been chosen as an unexpected lead-in to the album. It sounds like a number 3 track (not a bad thing - "Digital Love" is a number 3 track!). Much more continuity with the Discovery sound than I was expecting; I don't think any of us would have batted an eyelid had it been on that album (again, not a bad thing!).

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 21 January 2005 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Some sort of official preview:

(no music though)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 21 January 2005 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 21 January 2005 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone make the CafePress shirts. (Alternately, put an ILXor.com in there in that font.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 21 January 2005 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm quite upset they didn't go for my front cover draft above. I thought mine was far more passionate and cut to the bone regarding the album title.
