Primitives - S/D, C/D, etc

My friends and I really liked this band in high school. I will admit that I sort of miss the days when people looked like this. Looking at pictures of late 80s bands like the Primitives, the reptile part of my brain understands the feeling, I dunno, old hippies get when they see what I usually think of as "old hippie pictures" -- like Woodstock shit. It's like a little piece of heaven.

Hacked off that I missed them supporting The Wedding Present last December. Really wanted to go to that. Yes I am an ageing indie kid, so what?

btw I had completely missed the fact they'd reunited until today, so I missed out on the build-up and anticipation of new material...instead, just had it dropped in my lap with this video. But the quality of the song more than makes up for it.

i loved the 'never kill a secret' ep and would have really dug a whole LP of new material, but i'm not that excited about a covers album tbqh..

So this album's pretty fun!

yeah it's easy to forget it's a covers album because all the choices are pretty relatively obscure tracks..

Wow, that alternate mix of "crash" is so horrible! I don't think I've ever heard that before. Original is so classic. I have the record that that's on, have put it on a few times and always been kind of disappointed but not enough to throw it in my next garage sale.

The new single's pretty good! Pity it's not on Amazon US, these regional issues don't help the industries coffers.

New 2CD reissue of Lovely coming out in June. Wonder if the 2nd CD will have any studio stuff on it that hasn't been on the previous compilations.

Pure is one of my few all-time summer albums. I can only listen to it in August and I listen to it every August.

Looking forward to the deluxe reissues of it!

jazzed for the new album. on the covers album i don't think they had any renditions as good as their Tears Go By.

The new album is fantastic! It renews my faith in reformations, it's just so damn fun. Paul's songs are particularly good. Fuzzy girl-group goodness.

From what I've read Paul (guitar) was considering trying to get everyone together for a 20th anniversary Lovey celebration in 2008, but dropped the idea when he found out Tracy was living in Argentina. But he got in touch with her the following year when their original bassist died, and by then she'd returned to Coventry. A local gallery was organizing an exhibit on the Coventry music scene that year and invited them to take part and it all followed from there.

Attention must be paid: I heard "Crash" last night in a public setting for the first time ever, the restaurant we go to after golf. I asked the waitress where their music was coming from--a streaming service, their own mix, etc.--but she never got back to me.

Anyone else willing to rep for "Galore"? It was totally ignored when it came out - no US release, guess it was subsumed by the grunge wave. But it's always been just as vital to me as their first two.

I keep "Lead Me Astray" on my hard drive--love that.

This is one of things my little sister liked but I couldn't be bothered, being in academia and whatnot.

Loving their catalog now...so many things I didn't have time for in the 1990's.
