For anyone who hasn't read it, this is Mixapp's explanation for using Facebook

Why do I have to log in with a Facebook account?

Requiring Facebook was ultimately an issue of limited resources on our part. We needed a way to integrate social networking functionality quickly and easily, and for the many, many people who use Facebook regularly, a Facebook-based account provided the functionality we needed with relatively little software development effort — so we see this as the best way to grow the MixApp community while we're getting off the ground.

To be sure, nothing is set in stone, and in the future we expect to integrate with Twitter, OpenID, OAuth, OpenSocial, and every other single sign on or social graph system with enough traction to make sense. However, given MixApp's friend-based nature this is a non-trivial development task compared to the simplicity of the Facebook-only setup, and for now we need to focus on more immediate goals.

If Facebook is a non-starter for you, we want you to know that we, too, have concerns about Facebook's attitude towards privacy and control, and we're looking forward to having the resources we need to give you a choice on this front. If you'd like to know when we have a non-Facebook login option, please let us know, and we'll shoot you an email when we do. Until then, we very much appreciate your patience as we try to get MixApp off the ground.

It really doesn't make much sense, as OpenID is just about the easiest thing to integrate into a site as exists on the web (most of the time it will just install itself as a plugin). They're clearly looking to monetize Mixapp and aligning themselves with Facebook users is the fastest way to get there.

Can't really blame them for looking to monetize Mixapp imo...the case of Listening Room shows what happens when you don't have any business plan.

Seriously consider a payment system (or payment option) based not on micropayments, but on allowing users to "rent" access to a room for a day. Perhaps that day's sponsor would have the ability to post a headline (even headline graphic), drag-and-drop songs in the queue, or kick unwelcome guests.

why? you can start as many rooms as you want

Fettig wants to move to a micropayments system by users to pay broadcast royalties to stay legal, a bit like a coin-operated jukebox. I'm just pointing out that I'd be happy to throw a PayPal payment his way to sponsor a once-a-week ILXor shindig, rather than expect everyone present to scrounge for quarters to contribute.

i don't know if we should be -- or are -- 'in it for the long haul' but a beta lisnin room that doesn't fuck up so much will do for the time being until some enterprising ppl rent serverspace in tajikistan and write a decent gui

the ilxor room was anything goes, nobody was abusing it afaict.....i'd rather go to a separate room for noisy arcana that throw $5 at it so tuomas has to listen to florian hecker for twenty minutes

I liked the unpredictable all-inclusive aspect of ILXOR, though obv if you want to throw on your hour-long Merzbow odysseys you need something like tbrr (and it facilitates two-rooms-at-once awesomeness).

The "features" I suggested weren't so much for the ILX community, as we seem open-minded. Just ideas that might make a payment system viable in general if ad sponsorship (hooray) doesn't pay the bills. A turntable dictator would find herself playing to an empty room...

sounds like he's got lots of good ideas and directions for Listening Room and he's aiming at keeping the service scalable and legal and up for the long haul
pretty excited.

Buggy as hell right now. Didn't notice that when I was the only one in the room, but if several people are playing songs it becomes problematic.

Oh man, it's as buggy as all shit. It seems at the moment if you load a track it will start playing then when the next track in line is finished uploading it starts playing right away instead of queueing.

So you have to have "Twitter" account to log in now? Why can't these sites just have their own login instead of forcing you to register to some other site?
