i still haven't felt compelled to listen to high violet despite enjoying previous ones, this has happened to me a bunch lately with my old indie favorites where i go from enthralled to apathetic in the time between consecutive albums. probably because all the cool shit i discover through ILX pushes it to the side in my mind

i dont get the national but whatever.

I've liked 'em in the past, but High Violet is dullsville. zzzzzz

but it's cool that the placing of their swansong here is turning a bunch of ppl on to SCG, funeral mariachi is a perfect starter's portal to their bizarro world

honestly it was between that and swans alb for #1 of last year for me, and I listen to funeral mariachi way more than it takes a rope of miles for my father to guide me up to the sky

The first CD of the Knife is, well, difficult. But after you make it through the first half your hearing has adjusted and what might sound like the nine-minute academic exercises in isolation on the 2nd CD feel like you just put on Body Talk.

everything i've heard off that knifeco record has been impressive, if less than immediate. dug "colouring of pigeons" when it showed up in trax, and am currently digging "annie's box". gorgeous mix of vocal and instrumental tones. i never gave it a chance because so many people wrote it off as soundtracky dabbling, but this is v impressive. and "seeds" is off to a good start, too.

SCG would make sense as part of my 2% of music taste overlap w/ ljag (see also foetus)

btw as with the rihanna, nobody is leaping in the defence of the national. it would make my day if someone would cogently defend it from their perspective :P

ed3, 2% is somewhat underselling it! the fall alone make up like 2% of my taste haha

have only heard the "opera person" version, love it.

re lj: checking "epochs". starting slow & low... god, i just LOVE the combo of operatic vocals and dark industrial drones. sudden dubstep!

don't get the dismissal of "seeds" though. takes its time, but eventually builds up quite a head of steam. love the housey boonka-boonk and doubled vocals towards the end. needs some ghetto bass, but other than that...

yeah that similar artists thing just looks like a random list of metal bands to me.

I mean they are similar in the sense of "these are bands that are also metal bands" but that's a pretty broad brushstroke

hehe this applies to me too (3EF, The Knife) and yeah, am hoping to make some cool discoveries but the top 50 is gonna be mostly other ppls business

yup. didn't vote for it, but easily might have. only means that i break ties by going with my sentimental favorites. glad metal cru got a couple in. still hoping for christian mistress & black breath, but prob foolishly.

lj re: the nat'l, try "afraid of everyone" (i'm in a meeting and am not tracking down links, sry to be difficult). one of the stronger melodies on the record imo.

Nothing has placed from my ballot yet, but a few things I like/am interested by have come up.

Looking over my ballot, there are two I'm almost definite will come up, about three or four I'd expect to see, and the rest I will eat my hat if they show up.
