i honestly didn't think using a seemingly self-explanatory shorthand for "publications on the web and in print that focus primarily on indie (the genre) music" would be all that inflammatory.

in isolation it wouldn't be. but if you're saying you didn't intentionally put a "lol @ indie herbs catchin up late" spin on things, then that's BS. it's not the suggestion that indie critics are indie critics that's bugging me.

like, I get Whiney's good intentions to proselytise music he sees as underregarded; he's chosen inflammatory terms to do so and offhandedly dismissed the consensus of music-fans as fervent as he, but I don't think he's dismissing them individually

What is the miles davis record eventually endorsed by indie dudes as a classic then? On the Corner? Jack Johnson? Silent Way? Is there really only one?

On the Corner is pretty much the one, yeah. Indie folks don't fuck with acoustic Miles, in my experience.
