xpost it's cuz people who admit to liking katy perry get harassed/shit for it so people voted for her in silence more than likely

i d really g why folks are thinking the knife track is a joke but i understand that's it's a little strange for it to be the token avant garde techno classical opera w/e pick. i guess since i dig a lot of stuff like that it doesn't seem strange or lolworthy, imo.
― omar little, Thursday, January 27, 2011 6:03 PM (43 minutes ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink
well it's basically like name recognition drives the pick--would ppl have really fucked w/this if the knife were some no-names?
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:48 (fifteen years ago)
the weird one for me on the list is taio cruz, like man really? that's a significant song this year? i guess some peeps are so hooked on pop music that they'll do the equivalent of smoking schwag in a drought, but damn so many cool pop things on the list that seem leagues above that.
― smang a goon (get it on) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:51 (fifteen years ago)
but overall, lots of cool stuff i would have never checked out otherwise! thx y'all
name recognition might lead to awareness of the track but i'm not sure if it leads to people voting for it because it's the knife. i agree with your point if it's the former one, but that could also apply to any song or album people are voting for.
― omar little, Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:52 (fifteen years ago)
yeah it's prob more awareness

some mostly KIP comments on the first day's worth of stuff that i hadn't posted yet:
77. DIDDY-DIRTY MONEY "Ass on the Floor" [222 points, 7 votes]this hadn't clicked with me yet when i sent in my votes but it's my favorite track on the diddy album now. i love how it's sonically the polar opposite of 'pon de floor' from which the snare is sampled (and i assume the title is in reference to)
76. VAMPIRE WEEKEND "Giving Up the Gun" [222 points, 10 votes, 1 first place vote]this is okay, i'm hearing the graceland-era paul simon thing here more than on their old songs. as with graceland, the secret strength is the bassline, which is why it's frustrating when the bass cuts out for large portions of the song
75. AZARI & III "Reckless (With Your Love) (Tensnake remix)" [228 points, 8 votes]left me hanging for the first minute wondering if i was gonna like it, and then huge grin when the bass drops. love the house piano, that shit always seals the deal when it's done well.
74. CRYSTAL CASTLES "Celestica" [232 points, 8 votes]this is not at all what i remember them sounding like when i first checked them out a few years back. the stuttery gazey chords are a better look for them though than the bleepy stuff. like the production a lot more than the vocals here.
73. TAYLOR SWIFT "Mean" [232 points, 8 votes, 1 first place vote]t-swift's not really my thing but i get why she's wildly popular here. she's a really gifted melodicist, i'm just not particularly captivated by her lyrics or arragements.
72. MARINA & THE DIAMONDS "Shampain" [234 points, 10 votes]i'm kinda digging this halfway - it reminds me of nothing so much as Army of Lovers, which is probably a bad thing but i dunno. the lyrics are clumsy and i don't like them. i checked out 'i am not a robot' and i kinda like that too until the full band comes in and turns it more ordinary. seems like something i won't ever listen to outside of youtubes though.
71. RIHANNA "What's My Name" [234 points, 11 votes]don't like this enough to redeem the silly drake verse
70. THE FIVES ft. VANYA TAYLOR "It's What You Do (Hottest By Far)" [236 points, 5 votes, 1 first place vote]this is good, i feel like those marcato string sounds have gone out of style in favor of synth stabs these days and it's nice to hear a track use them
69. YUNG HUMMA ft. FLYNT FLO$$Y "Lemme Smang It" [236 points, 8 votes, 2 first place votes]yeah i love this a lot and it basically speaks for itself
68. RICK ROSS ft. STYLES P "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)" [238 points, 12 votes]not my favorite song on the rick ross album but still a banger. i think in general ross doesn't sound good on lex luger beats, this song being the freak exception which unfortunately is probably gonna cause him to make a lot of shitty songs trying to replicate it
67. THE KNIFE "Colouring of Pigeons" [242 points, 7 votes, 1 first place vote]i tend to tune out when pop music acts do soundtracks/theater projects. this sounds just enough like the knife to just make me want a new 'regular' knife record but not enough to satisfy my craving for a new knife record. what a tease.
66. CASSIE "Skydiver" [242 points, 8 votes]i wanted to like this more than i did, the chorus hook doesn't really do it for me
(TIE) 64. KELIS "Acapella" [242 points, 9 votes]lol did lj really call this dream-pop? it's okay, not a fan of kelis or guetta. at least it's subtle guetta.
(TIE) 64. FOUR TET "Love Cry" [242 points, 9 votes]not as instantly ~*dreamy*~ as older four tet standouts, i kinda feel like he worked better with 5-minute tracks than 9-minute ones
63. JAVIERA MENA "Hasta La Verdad" [244 points, 8 votes, 1 first place vote]man i'm glad that disco is 'back'. this song starts out alright, then goes next-level at 1:40
62. SWANS "No Words/No Thoughts" [248 points, 7 votes, 1 first place vote]been meaning to check out this record, always had a passing interest in swans without ever falling in love with anything by them. this doesn't sound as engaging as my favorite tracks on their late 80s/early 90s records that i've heard though.
61. GAMES "Strawberry Skies" [250 points, 7 votes]the way people were describing this on the thread here made me excited to hear it but in the end its just an alright chillwave track, seems like chillwave artists have produced very few undeniably great tracks even though i like the aesthetic
would like to comment on the rest, hopefully i'll get around to it

^ good read
For the albums poll results, does anyone in the uk want to be on board with posting spotify links while I reveal the albums? I can't do it from where I am, so I'll probably just link to :30 samples at Amazon or 7digital on my own.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 28 January 2011 00:06 (fifteen years ago)
JF, I'll send you the Spotify links at the weekend.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Friday, 28 January 2011 00:08 (fifteen years ago)
The upper reaches of ILX polls are like some parallel universe where Lex rules the world.
Chart-pop (with some Rihanna/Willow-shaped exceptions exceptions) has disappointed me most here, which is weird because it's an area I love, but people voting for Kesha, Katy Perry and Lady Antebellum - really? is it just an in-the-absence-of-anything-better thing?
Pleasantly surprised by number one.

77. DIDDY-DIRTY MONEY "Ass on the Floor" [222 points, 7 votes] i briefly got on the anticipation w/ this album prolly out of contrarianism but i had forgotten that by the time it became the ilx rallying point in the kanye backlash so idk yeah this is good i guess but when i listen i can only hear the sound of ilm taste-chess now76. VAMPIRE WEEKEND "Giving Up the Gun" [222 points, 10 votes, 1 first place vote] this album was good, theres better songs on this. would have voted for diplomats son but idk75. AZARI & III "Reckless (With Your Love) (Tensnake remix)" [228 points, 8 votes] this is like a less good version of the orig.74. CRYSTAL CASTLES "Celestica" [232 points, 8 votes] im not gonna lie to you i havent heard this song but i kindof want to preserve how singularly awful it sounds in my head so73. TAYLOR SWIFT "Mean" [232 points, 8 votes, 1 first place vote]i dont mind taylor swift but i cant imagine needing anymore taylor swift. i read somewhere that she uses the same four chords in every song and i *know* that most songs use the same few chords or w/e and that theres endless possiblities but not w/ this girl afaic72. MARINA & THE DIAMONDS "Shampain" [234 points, 10 votes]cant believe that bands like this exist outside the bbc top ten polls71. RIHANNA "What's My Name" [234 points, 11 votes] yeah i really like this actually and i dont even mind the drake verse on it while realising that verse is terrible. i like this a lot more like what i wish mainstream rnb sounded like productionwise than whats actually going on70. THE FIVES ft. VANYA TAYLOR "It's What You Do (Hottest By Far)" [236 points, 5 votes, 1 first place vote]this is fine i guess. i can only guess that theres something appealingly bland abt it bc69. YUNG HUMMA ft. FLYNT FLO$$Y "Lemme Smang It" [236 points, 8 votes, 2 first place votes]this is like a tim and eric skit i hate tim and eric68. RICK ROSS ft. STYLES P "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)" [238 points, 12 votes]i dont like this but it might be good idk67. THE KNIFE "Colouring of Pigeons" [242 points, 7 votes, 1 first place vote]yeah this is fine but i preferred that knife album w/ all the steel drums. i saw planningtorock as a support act in brussels five years ago and it was incredibly horrible bs art-school im in a band come to my performance showoff crap. she seemed too old for it but maybe shes like 22, in any case66. CASSIE "Skydiver" [242 points, 8 votes]i like cassiefanclub as a thing and i guess im glad that this is in the chart even as a "reprazent" gesture but this is kindof unremarkable. i didnt even know this leaked i should start following tape store of twitter or something.(TIE) 64. KELIS "Acapella" [242 points, 9 votes]this is the best guetta song ever but theres better songs on this album which is so close to being amazing that the reasons it isnt seem kindof unforgivable(TIE) 64. FOUR TET "Love Cry" [242 points, 9 votes]i love this a lot63. JAVIERA MENA "Hasta La Verdad" [244 points, 8 votes, 1 first place vote]this is nice62. SWANS "No Words/No Thoughts" [248 points, 7 votes, 1 first place vote]this is the best swans song ive ever heard post pigfuck, but id much prefer to be listening to raping a slave or cop but i guess thats not really fair. yeah its good.61. GAMES "Strawberry Skies" [250 points, 7 votes]glad that the chillwave contingent cracked the list.
60. TAYLOR SWIFT "Mine" [250 points, 7 votes, 1 first place vote]see above59. LCD SOUNDSYSTEM "I Can Change" [250 points, 8 votes]i started listening to this but i dont remember if i listened all the way, i like lcd but im not really in the mood maybe some other time58. GIL SCOTT-HERON "Me and the Devil" [254 points, 10 votes]this is great(TIE) 56. KE$HA "We R Who We R" [254 points, 11 votes]listening to this song is severe masochism, feel like anybody who voted for this has like a cupboard full of nipple clamps or something(TIE) 56. NICKI MINAJ ft. EMINEM "Roman's Revenge" [254 points, 11 votes]eminem seemed like this kindof spokesperson for my generation when i was like thirteen and his descent to bloated botoxed recovering addict is really depressing and when i listen to this that is what i think of. i mean even if it was phenomenal i would think this so i guess this is trumping any sort of *musical evaluation* i could give55. JUSTIN BIEBER "U Smile (Ambient Version)" [256 points, 9 votes, 1 first place vote]lol54. DRAKE "Fireworks (Deadboy Slo Mo House Edit)" [260 points, 10 votes]this is great and i voted for it53. LADY ANTEBELLUM "Need You Now" [262 points, 11 votes]i had never heard of this but it is so impenetrably bland and emotionally obvious i dont understand how anybody could connect with it on any sort of spiritual level. sounds like it was written by a committee.52. BEACH HOUSE "Zebra" [266 points, 9 votes]i have no idea how anybody would confuse the name beach house with the name best coast.51. GAYNGS "The Gaudy Side of Town" [266 points, 13 votes]this is good i guess, cry was better.50. TAIO CRUZ "Dynamite" [270 points, 7 votes, 1 first place vote]this kindof represents so much that is terrible about current radio music and sounds like something they would play on spin southwest which is a reference nobody but me on this board will understand but w/e you prolly havent made it this far this is all therapy i guess. in and of itself its kindof infectious enough to overcome how egregious it is so rev otm i guess?(TIE) 48. KANYE WEST "All of the Lights" [270 points, 8 votes, 1 first place vote]i dont get whats so terrible about this???(TIE) 48. ARIEL PINK'S HAUNTED GRAFFITI "Bright Lit Blue Skies" [270 points, 8 votes, 1 first place vote]this is nice i like ariel pink a lot47. TAYLOR SWIFT "Back to December" [270 points, 10 votes]see above46. JANELLE MONÁE "Cold War" [272 points, 11 votes, 1 first place vote]my friend tadhg spent the entire year going on at me about how good this is and he and i normally have p similar taste in music. he tried telling me that the guy from chic repped for her and this is how he heard of her (we once went to a chic concert together) but when i listen to this i have no idea what im supposed to be hearing.45. NICOLAS JAAR "WOUH" [274 points, 8 votes, 1 first place vote]this was my number one and i love it so much.44. CARIBOU "Odessa" [278 points, 11 votes]this is good but i dont ever want to hear it again. cant imagine it would sound good in like a club or anything but i guess you never know until you hear it.43. EL GUINCHO "Bombay" [280 points, 11 votes]tittays42. HOT CHIP "One Life Stand" [288 points, 11 votes]this guy didnt always have such an annoying voice im sure of it.41. LADY GAGA ft. BEYONCÉ "Telephone" [294 points, 11 votes, 1 first place vote]i always think this song is gonna turn into this other song when i hear it but i cant remember which song right now.
40. GUCCI MANE "Lemonade" [300 points, 10 votes]this is the guy w/ an icecream cone on his face right39. LIL B "The Age of Information" [302 points, 11 votes]lol this is p funny. this lil douchbag is kindof a bro hahahaha38. KATY B "Katy on a Mission" [322 points, 13 votes]i like this37. JAMIE WOON "Night Air" [324 points, 13 votes]i love this. sorry all u fagbashers hate it i see thru yr transparent "vampire" evasion36. CARIBOU "Sun" [330 points, 11 votes]this is fine35. WIZ KHALIFA "Black & Yellow" [330 points, 13 votes]yeah i think i would like hearing this in a bar or something if i was drunk.34. M.I.A. "Born Free" [340 points, 13 votes] i had truffle fries entirely because of this this chick and i enjoyed them a lot more than this song33. THESE NEW PURITANS "We Want War" [342 points, 10 votes]this sounds like muse to me, ppl should stop singing in british accents32. TENSNAKE "Coma Cat" [342 points, 11 votes, 1 first place vote]this is loads of fun!!! this is prolly my favourite song i didnt vote for. can i get31. EARL SWEATSHIRT "Earl" [344 points, 10 votes]this guy reminds me of guys i had crushes on when i was fifteen and it thus fills me w/ weird nostalgia.30. ROBYN "Hang With Me" [346 points, 14 votes]the video for this is really good and this song is p great but once it starts to grate you cant listen to it again29. GYPTIAN "Hold Yuh" / "Hold Yuh (Funkystepz remix)" [380 points, 12 votes]this is obviously amazing28. CIARA ft. LUDACRIS "Ride" [394 points, 12 votes]this is ridic great27. LINDSTRØM & CHRISTABELLE "Lovesick" [394 points, 18 votes]not the l+C song i voted for but its good to see this album making a mark again this year. maybe i can use some loophole to get keep it up into the 2011 tracks26. KANYE WEST ft. PUSHA T "Runaway" [396 points, 13 votes]i dont remember which one this is25. TINIE TEMPAH "Pass Out" [398 points, 14 votes]i dont know what kindof discussion this has generated but you like this in spite of the lyrics right? bc they are kindof a dealbreaker for me, as well they used this song on some ad on Viva or something constantly this summer and i got really sick of it24. KANYE WEST ft. DWELE "Power" [410 points, 15 votes]i heard this driving from LA to Oakland and in the middle of these big ranches or w/e it sounded epic and amazing and it still sounds epic and amazing in this way. i might have voted for it.23. SADE "Soldier of Love" [410 points, 16 votes]i would totally have sex with this woman22. KE$HA "TiK ToK" [424 points, 14 votes, 3 first place votes]this sounds like medicated mouthwash tastes21. 20. E-40 ft. CLYDE CARSON & HUSALAH "Lightweight Jammin'" [432 points, 12 votes, 1 first place vote]i didnt notice this in the list before now i have no idea what this is no comment19. LCD SOUNDSYSTEM "Dance Yrself Clean" [434 points, 13 votes]ppl saying this is exactly like every other lcd song are kindof pushing it i think. the contrast between intro and the rest is a great novelty for me.18. ERYKAH BADU "Window Seat" [436 points, 15 votes]this is great and feels way shorter than it is.17. SCISSOR SISTERS "Invisible Light" [438 points, 12 votes, 2 first place votes]the stuff i read about their new classic nyc sound was straight bullshit16. KATY PERRY "Teenage Dream" [438 points, 15 votes]this is really terrible15. WILLOW SMITH "Whip My Hair" [456 points, 17 votes, 1 first place vote]lol somebody tried telling me that willow smith went behind her fathers back and didnt tell the record company who she was because she wanted to get her deal on her own merits and i was like uh she is seven this is obviously false. this song makes me wish frank kogan still posted.14. SCHOOL OF SEVEN BELLS "I L U" [466 points, 14 votes]the first song i ever heard by them was great but every other song has been less good. 13. SLEIGH BELLS "Rill Rill" [532 points, 19 votes, 1 first place vote] i heard this in an american apparel once and it sounded really good. this is its natural habitat12. CRYSTAL CASTLES ft. CEE-LO GREEN "Fuck You" [586 points, 19 votes, 2 first place votes]this guy is such a great singer his career post closet freak is p disappointing but i guess this is kindof fun. i remember getting pissed off at someone who said this is gonna be in a shrek movie in like a year but they were p otm.10. KANYE WEST ft. RICK ROSS, JAY-Z, NICKI MINAJ & BON IVER "Monster" [596 points, 20 votes]my friend claire does a really good impression of nicki minaj on this song. it took her forever but she has the voices down pretty good.9. RIHANNA "Rude Boy" [628 points, 23 votes, 2 first place votes]rihanna is kindof a singles machine and her hits always feel legitimate and highquality but this is not one of my favourites. cant badmouth it tho8. JANELLE MONÁE ft. BIG BOI "Tightrope" [642 points, 24 votes, 1 first place vote]this is fine7. BIG BOI ft. CUTTY "Shutterbugg" [672 points, 26 votes]this was great when i heard it first but its a bit like crystal meth except i gave up chasing the dragon or w/e p quick. congratulations cutty on yr first hit single.6. ROBYN "Dancing on My Own" [674 points, 22 votes, 5 first place votes]eh5. ARCADE FIRE "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)" [694 points, 22 votes, 2 first place votes]this is better than i would have imagined4. THE-DREAM "Yamaha" [764 points, 26 votes]i still havent heard this album, this seems like a worthy number four3. ARIEL PINK'S HAUNTED GRAFFITI "Round and Round" [794 points, 25 votes, 2 first place votes]this is great, i prolly would have voted for it if i remembered it.2. WAKA FLOCKA FLAME "Hard in Da Paint" [902 points, 30 votes, 2 first place votes] this guy swears a lot. i was always taught this was like a sign of being inarticulate. arent rappers meant to have amazing vocabularies. feel like he could have been more creative AND couth1. GIRL UNIT "Wut" [996 points, 31 votes, 3 first place votes]if i saw this on like mtv dance i would prolly change the channel even if there was just ads on everywhere else

20. E-40 ft. CLYDE CARSON & HUSALAH "Lightweight Jammin'" like it. wish "Bitch" was here instead tho19. LCD SOUNDSYSTEM "Dance Yrself Clean" i'll always stan for jams murphy. at least until he does a dubstep record or produces a green day album or something18. ERYKAH BADU "Window Seat" like it. feel kind of embarrased for her jacking a matt & kim video idea tho17. SCISSOR SISTERS "Invisible Light" these guys are still really good at what they do. this should be on a grand theft auto soundtrack16. KATY PERRY "Teenage Dream" how is californa gurls not here? this song sucks15. WILLOW SMITH "Whip My Hair" love it. hope this song stays around forever14. SCHOOL OF SEVEN BELLS "I L U" never listened to these guys before. kind of annoying "influences on their sleeve" thing going on but i still like it. what else is good by them?13. SLEIGH BELLS "Rill Rill" love this. tjank u whiney for big upping this last summer 12. CRYSTAL CASTLES ft. ROBERT SMITH "Not in Love" this is better than that other crystal castles song. still kinda boring, but robert smith makes it ok11. CEE-LO GREEN "Fuck You" fuck you.10. KANYE WEST ft. RICK ROSS, JAY-Z, NICKI MINAJ & BON IVER "Monster" fuck you, too.9. RIHANNA "Rude Boy" the hook really bugs me but i cant hate on rihanna. was "only girl in the world" 09? i like fist-pumping-at-the-club rihanna best8. JANELLE MONÁE ft. BIG BOI "Tightrope" didnt really "get" this album but really liked this track from first listen7. BIG BOI ft. CUTTY "Shutterbugg" love it. can listen to it 30 times in a row6. ROBYN "Dancing on My Own" have danced on my own to it several times. such a jam. i think i needed to see a TV performance of it to really feel it tho. robyn's got an awesome presence5. ARCADE FIRE "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)" i liked this band when they were emo springsteen4. THE-DREAM "Yamaha" everything lex said about this x1000. without a doubt my #1 jam of the year. i get excited just THINKING about this song let alone actually hearing it. i'll hear this song 20 years from now and be like "yeah summer 2010 was some shit"3. ARIEL PINK'S HAUNTED GRAFFITI "Round and Round" love it.2. WAKA FLOCKA FLAME "Hard in Da Paint" i think i hate this kind of sound. lex lugar did this, right? i didnt really feel rick ross's BMF either. O lets do it still my favorite waka \(o_O)/1. GIRL UNIT "Wut" seriously? this is like witch house doing what minimal techno did when it went MAXIMAL. not awful but smh @ it being #1. otoh i guess its kinda cool to have a weirdo upset.
gr8 job j0rdan. thanks a lot for doing this. thanks ILM for caring abt silly shit like this and voting. next year i'll actually vote.

yeah i think w/ youtube passing the 5 year mark and DSLRs becoming so commonplace that 2011 is going to be a great year for music videos, mainstream and indie. lotta great ones in 2010.

love the way everyone comes into the thread, like some tracks & hates others all under the posture of SEEIN THRU THE BULLSHIT as if there's some group of ilxors who literally like all these songs -- not pickin on gr8080 & i did it too at first, its just sorta *pats self on back*

the images/results archive of ILM's top 77 tracks of 2010
It's gonna be funny in a few years when tinypic reassigns some of these urls (I've noticed they do that).

Listening to the tunes I hadn't heard yet.
Azari & III - "Reckless With Your Love (Tensnake Remix)" I have to admit I wasn't really feeling this, but about 3 and a half minutes when the samples really take over I was feeling it. Think I need to check out the original version.
Marina & The Diamonds - "Shampain" Really didn't think I would make it through the first 30 seconds of this, but once that chorus came in I was hooked. I think I would grow really tired of it if it was being forced down my throat, but I really like this!
The Fives f. Vanya Taylor - "Its What You Do (Hottest By Far)" Um, it turns out I have heard this. I don't know how, why, where or when, but I definitely heard this a few weeks ago. This isn't really my thing, though I can see why some might really love it. Think I'd love an instrumental version a lot more.
Yung Humma f. Flynt Flossy - "Lemme Smang It" OH MY GOD I can't believe I avoided this for so long. This is SO great. I mean, the video is all-time classic. And I love that his voice is like the opposite of a rapper, but he does it anyway. Flynt's verse just takes it to another level. So would have voted this if I hadn't avoided it assuming it was awful (stupid me).
Games - "Strawberry Skies" Okay, this had been on my list for a long time because I love Oneohtronix, but I never got around to it. I like this, kind of reminds me of where I was hoping M83 would have spent more time. Don't think I'll come back to this as much as OPN, but I appreciate the groove.

like you know how we look back at ppl who voted for Kool Keith and Deltron 3030 and weird rap 10 years ago all lollerpops about how they totally avoided 'real rap' and get all smug gatekeeper of the art about it. Wondering if we'll be saying about Lil B ca. 2020.
