when i say "tolerate" flo rida, i'm using a different level of toleration -- it's not like tolerating ants biting your ankles like w/ some of the worst drake raps, it's more like tolerating sitting in a waiting room w/ no reading material

kl0pper city in the ghetto (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:30 (fifteen years ago)

i should note that i mean "single of the year SO FAR"

kl0pper city in the ghetto (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:30 (fifteen years ago)

The lyrics for the new Lady GaGa single (it's being premiered at the Grammys I think) have been released:

http://www.twitlonger.com/show/8e8bt7

They're... really really bad.

prolego, Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:30 (fifteen years ago)

damn, FREE RED ONE

kl0pper city in the ghetto (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:32 (fifteen years ago)

I think this is the worst bit:

DON'T BE A DRAG, JUST BE A QUEEN
WHETHER YOU'RE BROKE OR EVERGREEN
YOU'RE BLACK, WHITE, BEIGE, CHOLA DESCENT
YOU'RE LEBANESE, YOU'RE ORIENT
WHETHER LIFE'S DISABILITIES
LEFT YOU OUTCAST, BULLIED, OR TEASED
REJOICE AND LOVE YOURSELF TODAY
'CAUSE BABY YOU WERE BORN THIS WAY

NO MATTER GAY, STRAIGHT, OR BI,
LESBIAN, TRANSGENDERED LIFE
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN TO SURVIVE

prolego, Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:32 (fifteen years ago)

lol i'd never heard of "Fernando Garibay" so i looked him up on wiki & he's definitely a classic case of "random pop/rap/r&b producer that obsessively updates their own wikipedia page w/ random productions that no one has heard of"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernando_Garibay

kl0pper city in the ghetto (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:32 (fifteen years ago)

god this song is gonna be massive & holy shiiiit are these lyrics bad

kl0pper city in the ghetto (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:33 (fifteen years ago)

that said lyrics have really never been that important to her music so w/e

kl0pper city in the ghetto (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:33 (fifteen years ago)

scrolled past those Gaga lyrics -- i can't think of any situation where reading a song's lyrics before you can hear it would do you or the song any good at all

williamstevenjames (some dude), Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:35 (fifteen years ago)

if the new gaga singles aren't at least really good we are all fucked -- feels like it will be so decisive

flopson, Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:38 (fifteen years ago)

i've been thinking of doing a definitive 'fame era' gaga singles poll before this new one is released

kl0pper city in the ghetto (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:41 (fifteen years ago)

i kinda feel like the new Gaga album will have like 4-5 huge singles no matter what, so if the first one sucks balls we'll just kind of tolerate it for a month or two and then a good one will kick it off the charts

williamstevenjames (some dude), Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:43 (fifteen years ago)

^^pretty much

kl0pper city in the ghetto (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:43 (fifteen years ago)

and that if the album does have one terrible single it will probably be the first one. just a hunch i've had, even pre-shitty lyrics leaking.

williamstevenjames (some dude), Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:43 (fifteen years ago)

i've also been wondering whether or not the first week numbers for the album will be the most for the next 5 or so years running

kl0pper city in the ghetto (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 January 2011 23:45 (fifteen years ago)

playing online poker w/ someone in the same room as you is a pretty lame excuse to have a computer in the music video

based god kwassa kwassa (dayo), Friday, 28 January 2011 01:16 (fifteen years ago)

I know it's a 'thing' now but those casio chords sound really similar to tik tok's casio chords

based god kwassa kwassa (dayo), Friday, 28 January 2011 01:19 (fifteen years ago)

i remember seeing a youtube clip of her performing "born this way" live a few months back? it was outdoors somewhere, and it was one of her piano-driven elton john style numbers, like "speechless". i didn't catch the lyrics then obviously :o

lextasy refix (lex pretend), Friday, 28 January 2011 01:22 (fifteen years ago)

more songs like "speechless" would be cool w/ me

there was a live piano-driven song someone posted a youtube of somewhere on ILM last year, i liked it a lot but i'm pretty sure it was not "Born This Way"

williamstevenjames (some dude), Friday, 28 January 2011 01:37 (fifteen years ago)

it's called "you and i"

holy shit those are some of the worst lyrics i've ever read

teledyldonix, Friday, 28 January 2011 01:54 (fifteen years ago)

I dunno if anyone else here will like this besides me, but it's the new song by Dash & Will who I've been tracking since 2008 (their first batch of singles was really good, and the album wasn't too spotty). This is the first new music since, and they're reportedly working on the second record for later this year.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu9QLWIhXlU

It's probably "heavier" (?) than most of what gets play in here, but it's not indie and it's not rock, so I don't have any idea where else to slot it.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 28 January 2011 02:16 (fifteen years ago)

"Black and Yellow" at #3 ^_______^

The Reverend, Friday, 28 January 2011 03:34 (fifteen years ago)

Gaga has too much of the 'craftsman' instinct presently to release more than one outright dog at a time.

Rich Lolwry (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 28 January 2011 03:37 (fifteen years ago)

The GaGa song is interesting because it seems like the most explicit and self-conscious attempt by a big star to make some bwwig universal "generational anthem" (her words) since errr, Madonna's "Vogue"/"Like A Prayer"?

prolego, Friday, 28 January 2011 07:09 (fifteen years ago)

*big

prolego, Friday, 28 January 2011 07:10 (fifteen years ago)

This song is dope imo:

smanging pumpkins (The Reverend), Friday, 28 January 2011 08:23 (fifteen years ago)

yessssss i love stereo love. i was crossing my fingers for it to go top 10 in america (basically the only place where it hasn't) but sadly that is not going to happen.

teledyldonix, Friday, 28 January 2011 16:49 (fifteen years ago)

the avril is awesome!

maybe i'm just gay (Tape Store), Sunday, 30 January 2011 08:40 (fifteen years ago)

the drums in the bridge are awesome! also the acoustic guitar in the chorus! and the organ sound!

very fun hooky song, not a chore at all

maybe i'm just gay (Tape Store), Sunday, 30 January 2011 08:42 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i was thinking about mounting a defense of it but i was surprised to not be the only one that really liked it on Singles Jukebox

some dude, Sunday, 30 January 2011 13:18 (fifteen years ago)

i really wish "what the hell" was a pink song

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 February 2011 23:17 (fifteen years ago)

I'll try the Dash & Will hype again now that it has a real video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGysiDbueeo

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 23:20 (fifteen years ago)

i like the song and i like Pink more than Avril but i can't hear Pink singing it

some dude, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 23:49 (fifteen years ago)

pink's other single from her greatest hits has a fair chance of going #1 next week. strange how this has become her most commercially relevant phase of her career

teledyldonix, Thursday, 3 February 2011 17:46 (fifteen years ago)

i feel like the top of the Hot 100 these days has more to do with the artist than the record in the way the albums chart traditionally has been, and Pink is one of that handful of artists in the Gaga/Katy/Rihanna/Ke$ha/Eminem rotation that just shoots to the top of the chart with almost every big single release now.

Bearenthetical Grylls (some dude), Thursday, 3 February 2011 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

If this ends up singlehandedly blocking Wiz from #1 I will be >:O

The Reverend, Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i don't even really like the wiz song much but a regular-ass rap song hitting #1 would be pretty cool, especially that song the week of the super bowl

hercudeez and nuts affair (some dude), Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:40 (fifteen years ago)

strange how this has become her most commercially relevant phase of her career

it makes sense, really: Pink has a kind of weathered, been-there, cool-big-sister appeal that gets better the longer she's around -- put her next to a bunch of young new stars and she sticks out as seeming wiser and more down-to-earth. "raise your glass" was perfect at grabbing the good will that creates -- all supportive and encouraging, like we'll all gather at Pink's feet and she'll, like, give us motherly advice about being awesome

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Thursday, 3 February 2011 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

yeah she's definitely a bit older than pretty much all her contemporaries (even with Britney there's a 2 year age gap) but she wears it well, still kind of bratty defiant but not increasingly ridiculous about as she gets older like Avril.

hercudeez and nuts affair (some dude), Thursday, 3 February 2011 21:06 (fifteen years ago)

cool-big-sister

That's easily the most succinct, accurate description of her appeal I've seen.

The Reverend, Thursday, 3 February 2011 21:08 (fifteen years ago)

my wife pointed out to me recently that my eldest female cousin looks/sounds slightly like Pink and i was like wow you're right, so that especially rings true for me

hercudeez and nuts affair (some dude), Thursday, 3 February 2011 21:26 (fifteen years ago)

Jessie J "Price Tag" went to #1 in Britain its first week, I don't think it will chart well here in America, it has this lazy and slow feeling that I don't think will translate.

Ivor, Monday, 7 February 2011 06:13 (fifteen years ago)

you sure about that? it's basically the same feel as "Billionaire," which was inescapable, plus it has B.o.B, and it'll probably do well in the "alternative to club songs" niche

katherine, Monday, 7 February 2011 07:07 (fifteen years ago)

aw man this might be massive

J0rdan S., Monday, 7 February 2011 07:09 (fifteen years ago)

train, jason mraz, bruno mars etc have had plenty of hits recently that sound like this

do the smeezingtons have anything to do with this? probably
