this sounds like The Knife on uppers
(a compliment)
nothing too special tho, but yeah totally get why people go mad for it

Think that will be the top 5 and you're not overlooking anything.xp to ilxor
― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:07 (fifteen years ago)
voted for this robyn track btw. had i ordered my ballot, either "ILU" or "dancing on my own" would've been #1 (impossible decision), but might as well consider that an ilxor #1 fav track of the year-- slays me every time
― the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:07 (fifteen years ago)
so ilxor if yr five are correct...this'll be the first time, well, ever, that there won't be a bona fide POP SMASH in the top 5?
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:07 (fifteen years ago)
mark my words--dream is #1, waka is top 3
like this Robyn song better than the other one...
― last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:07 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah ilxor your top 10 was pretty much otm asides maybe those 3 you mention. Weird choices for top 5 tho if those are the correct ones.

my #2 & #1 respectively

ooh I like the outro - formulaic but effective
don't see myself going back to it tho - way too emptily beatific - it's pure pop but it's nothing else
― 2010 was a great year for highly-credible pop-ambient (acoleuthic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:09 (fifteen years ago)
I actually preferred "Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do" over this, but not by much.
Would've liked the beat on this to have been a bit more fierce.
― Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:10 (fifteen years ago)
I'm sure there must be something we're overlooking here.

That's because 2010 was a hallmark ILM year. The lack of consensus meant we didn't really disagree on anything. (Well maybe Ke$ha and Sleigh Bells did generate some friction on the first trimester of the year.)
― Moka, Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:10 (fifteen years ago)
Never heard this Robyn before - doesn't really stand out on first listen.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:11 (fifteen years ago)
11-6 feel like the no-brainers of this year, 1-5 probably the ILM-centric curveballs.
If Yamaha is #1 I will punch the air with joy though.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:11 (fifteen years ago)
the weediness of robyn's beats is def one of my main complaints w/her material (tho it's her voice and her boring, clichéd subject matter that i object to more)

WOW, this robyn tune is way, way, way better than the last one! so good, and again with the arpeggiator on endless overdrive, but god i LOVE the way it slaps the clouds of candy along. want to hear this a hundred times in a row. it's funny how we draw our lines, cuz CAD is right to point out that there's some hypocrisy in my defending janelle monae (and this) as joyful "fun" while slagging kesha and katy perry for being vapid. not all funs are created equal, i guess. other people's fun is often intolerable, e.g., bars when sober.
i'm taking the tissue and pissing on the seat, btw
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:12 (fifteen years ago)
i'll go ahead and predict "yamaha" at #1 -- completely exhilarating & flawless track, one i can see getting to the top spot

I didn't vote because I only heard like 3 songs in 2010

― the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:14 (fifteen years ago)
i didn't like The Suburbs much but this was a great song imo
― ciderpress, Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:14 (fifteen years ago)
That is a MAJESTIC song and made me wish that girl would put out a solo album that's entirely in that vein. It's all about the key change in the middle.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:14 (fifteen years ago)
AF is another band that I've always kind of rankled against...I'll check this out though...
― last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:14 (fifteen years ago)
omg this song's tune is basically Indie Rock 101
ooh there's a key change? good
― 2010 was a great year for highly-credible pop-ambient (acoleuthic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

― last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:15 (fifteen years ago)
first two arcade fire albums are pretty great imo
― the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:15 (fifteen years ago)
First time I listen to this Arcade Fire track and it's even worse than I remember the band. Before, at least they had some ideas (that were horribly bad, but still ideas), now they're bad and sound like a million other bands.
― abcfsk, Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:16 (fifteen years ago)
damn, sprawl ii is very abba as well, isn't it?
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:16 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah this sounds like something that lots of people will like (don't mean this in a condescending way). More weirdly 80s-sounding production?
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:17 (fifteen years ago)
hearing "sprawl ii" for the first time...it sounds pretty much exactly like what this band were doing when i last paid attention to them (their debut). empty bluster that sounds like an indie kid shut-in's idea of what an e rush is like. it's not horrible though, i get why people like it, and the key change is actually good!
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:17 (fifteen years ago)
yup, i think the album was generic indie-rock, but this toon def. '80s production & groove, really really great
― the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:18 (fifteen years ago)

This list is packed with pop and chart stuff, yet it's Arcade Fire who sound the cheesiest?
― Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:18 (fifteen years ago)
well i am an indie kid but i have no idea what an e rush feels like. but if it's like this then good.
― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:19 (fifteen years ago)
Ah! That *is* kind of satisfying. I like the synths too, this is like Abba meets the Knife.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:19 (fifteen years ago)
guys this is straight 70s production imo
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:19 (fifteen years ago)
as much as I want to hate Arcade Fire, that seems to be a pretty good song. vaguely reminds me of Heart of Glass, and the lyrics remind me of a certain ILE thread, but it's undeniably catchy and I like how it builds into something kind of majestic, as another poster put it
― rockapads, Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:19 (fifteen years ago)
arcade fire song goes on bloody forever though doesn't it? please end.
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Thursday, 27 January 2011 20:19 (fifteen years ago)
would not have bitched if this placed outside the top 20

I'm an indie kid till I die, but I've never got this band. I mean, at all. Ah well.

That an Arcade Fire track managed to place so highly in an ILM poll is a testament to how fantastic this particular song is
