h8 this band
― tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:48 (fifteen years ago)
btw the dude in So7B was in Secret Machines! hurrah for prog! lol
that band's done one good album w/ Now Here Is Nowhere... all downhill since then, & glad Ben made the decision to get out before the ship really began to sink u_u
― the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)
they are working with beyonce on her new album lol
― The Brainwasher, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)
Couldn't choose btw 'rill rill' and 'tell 'em' so voted for both. Album is in my top 5 of the year even if it is painful to listen to on headphones.
― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)
i like most sleigh bells songs alright, but this one suxxxxxx
Hmm...the one time I tried listening to the Sleigh Bells albums, it just made me feel old (I'm not that old). Will try again.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:50 (fifteen years ago)
"Infinity Guitars" is my go-to Sleigh Bells track, but I like this one just fine.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:50 (fifteen years ago)
please can this refer to SVIIB, not sleigh bells :o
cannot fkn stand sleigh bells on just an aural level - ke$ha may sound like vomit but they sound like tinnitus
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:50 (fifteen years ago)
here is the vid if u r looking 4 it
― teledyldonix, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:51 (fifteen years ago)
it's BUZZWORTHY
― ciderpress, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:51 (fifteen years ago)
"Rill Rill" is good, but I prefer Sleigh Bells when they go fucking mental.
― Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:52 (fifteen years ago)
is this song going to break out of its mindless lazy loop? seems not
ten silver drops IS underrated, just needs editing down (first 3 trax + last track are essential, rest is take/leave) and yeah it's more shoegazey goth-pop than anything else - NHIN is their pinnacle obv, s/t album is the REALLY underrated one tho
― 2010 was a great year for highly-credible pop-ambient (acoleuthic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:53 (fifteen years ago)
re: school of 7 bells: this sounds like mike + the mechanics or something? probably not what they intended
― goole, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:53 (fifteen years ago)
^^^^
Sleigh Bells gets the thumbs down. avoided them because of their stupid name. instincts developed before the age of instant internet gratification that saved me from buying a lot of shitty music I hadn't heard.
― rockapads, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:54 (fifteen years ago)
not trying to make enemies, but...
Alpinisms ... had a hazy enigmatic quality that embraced the listener completely, whereas DfD is cleaner and I'd go with "too refined" to trigger the same immersive listening experience.
yeah, the production is pristine, but it's primarily the attitude & aeshthetics i struggle with. "ILU" is a romantic song and it has a gauzy ambience that suggests the chastely sexual, but there's no undercurrent of lust, no ache to balance the sweet. the erykah badu's "window seat", while much less pretty, seems much more meaningfully beautiful to me because it seems caught up in a web of complicated feelings: joy and pain and lust and a desire for some kind of transcendence. it's not fair to compare the two, as they have nothing in common and wildly different aims, but their list proximity forces the association in my mind. i guess i've always had this problem with shoegaze/dreampop as a genre. its beauty is often overwhelming but at the same time rather shallow-seeming.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:54 (fifteen years ago)
an exterior of impersonal sterility w/ the subtle undercurrent of warm shoegazy fuzziness - imo this balance is the most interesting feature of SVIIB's sound, and something they definitely refined & improved w/ DFD.
― beer, beer, beer (Pillbox), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:55 (fifteen years ago)
"Rill Rill" is nice enough, then checked "Infinity Guitars" and it makes my head hurt.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:55 (fifteen years ago)
Voted for TWO Sleigh Bells songs and this wasn't either of them. Good song though. More to come?
― seminal fuiud (NickB), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:55 (fifteen years ago)
i like "infinity guitars" a lot more than "rill rill" actually
― teledyldonix, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:56 (fifteen years ago)
rill rill is okay, kinda the most straightforward indie-pop tune on there

uh would anyone mind if posted a big-ish reaction post? not to everything but it's kind of a lot at this point
― goole, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:57 (fifteen years ago)
go for it

dig "infinity guitars", but i have to admit that sleigh bells and "rill rill" in particular wore out their welcome fast.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:57 (fifteen years ago)
― ciderpress, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:58 (fifteen years ago)
and yeah, goole, go big
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:58 (fifteen years ago)
I think "Not in Love" may have snuck onto my ballot somewhere. So, yay, I guess. And it's good to see Fat Bob getting something to do.
― Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:58 (fifteen years ago)
ppl who are like wahhhhhh sleigh bells makes my ears hurt--yall are wusses for real
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:58 (fifteen years ago)
Didn't vote for it, but I'm seemingly genetically incapable of disliking anything Robert Smith is on. Okay maybe 'The Glove' but that's it.
― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:58 (fifteen years ago)
love all the big reaction posts
do not love dude's voice on this crystal castles song, and that's as someone who doesn't really mind/care about the band's own sound
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:59 (fifteen years ago)
fwiw contenderizer i'm with you in prefering window seat over ilu
― last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:59 (fifteen years ago)
Okay maybe 'The Glove' but that's it.
u mad
― the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 19:00 (fifteen years ago)
i only objected earlier to big posts because i like to spend time reading and thinking about people's summary reactions, and when the thread is moving fast, that becomes difficult. threatens to get lost in the shuffle.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 19:00 (fifteen years ago)
lol at the devil horns shadow in the crystal castles pic...just noticed it
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 27 January 2011 19:00 (fifteen years ago)
sleigh bells simply bore me soz
robert smith is easily the best thing about this song. 30 years ago the dude was singing on 'faith' which is still more relevant a record than crystal castles will ever write
window seat is MILES better than ILU but then again it's completely blown me away so that's no disgrace for ILU
― 2010 was a great year for highly-credible pop-ambient (acoleuthic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 19:00 (fifteen years ago)
Hell yes, THAT Crystal Castles jam was my #3. This is what the next Cure album should sound like.
― went for cobra commander and came out elephant man (Whitey on the Moon), Thursday, 27 January 2011 19:01 (fifteen years ago)
although im guilty of not doing this i prefer big posts to rapidfire ones
― tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 19:01 (fifteen years ago)
I was hoping that Crystal Castles w/Robert Smith tune was going to be a 10CC cover, but instead it's a cover of a different and less interesting song. Meh.
― EZ Snappin, Thursday, 27 January 2011 19:01 (fifteen years ago)
"crown on the ground" is a massive fucking jam too (sleigh bells on itunes now)
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 19:01 (fifteen years ago)
lol crystal castles feat. r. smith--ridic ilm bait but a really boring song
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 27 January 2011 19:01 (fifteen years ago)
"Not in Love" is nice enough but I don't get what it's doing all the way up at #12.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 19:02 (fifteen years ago)
This is what the next Cure album should sound like.
keep dreaming ;_;
i'm a huuuuge cure fan but this aint ever gonna happen

ok here goes: here are my reactions to all the stuff i was a) unfamiliar with until this poll and b) liked. so if it’s not here either i’d heard it or it sucked! or both!
77. DIDDY-DIRTY MONEY "Ass on the Floor"this kind of minor-key “epic” club tune is some of my favorite music ever, i’ll basically always like a song like this. i loved loved loved “last night” and this is really similar. the “ass on the floor” call-out seems kind of out place, but it still works, like everybody is miserable over some heartbreak but going out clubbing is some kind of duty -- imagine being in a club where every single person has just broken up with someone else? it’d be pretty weird but i bet everyone would get laid.
75. AZARI & III "Reckless (With Your Love) (Tensnake remix)"yeah this is awesome. can i just throw out there that the C+C lift is great and if you like that then you ought not complain so much about girl talk? i know he beats a witty moment like that into the dirt but come on, it’s the same. hey i know that! lol! sharing an audio history with other people that can be called out is one of the great things about pop music.
70. THE FIVES FT. VANYA TAYLOR "It's What You Do (Hottest By Far)"this is good but feels clinical i guess. i check the funky house thread once every six months. is this track a little too perfect or something?
66. CASSIE "Skydiver"airy, diaphanous tracks like this either take you up or leave you thinking they’re boring and pointless (judging by the reaction here) but this really worked for me. just being really pretty for four minutes is more than enough. the last 30 seconds are especially great.
62. SWANS "No Words/No Thoughts"never been real familiar with swans, tbh, i’ve tried their now-classic 80’s stuff and it didn’t really click for me. this certainly sounds awesome. maybe it’s the dive-bombing horns in the beginning segment, but this puts me in mind of mingus, weirdly enough. there’s a gospel-shout underpinning to both i guess.
61. GAMES "Strawberry Skies"holy crap! this is like a fuzzier cheaper version of ryuichi sakamoto. why isn’t more music like this? it’s really not that hard! i dunno what the fuck these crystal castles people think they’re doing (those tracks are crap btw)
58. GIL SCOTT-HERON "Me and the Devil"awesome.
56. KE$HA "We R Who We R"ok this breaks my unfamiliarity rule but i have to say this: i really like this song. i can’t stand kesha, and i still can’t. but this thing just works really well for some reason. it charges headlong into everything that’s aggravating (“annoying” if you will) about kesha (the pronunciation of “ar” sounds) & dr luke (the music of dr luke), and comes out on the other side even more powerful. i really enjoy listening to this and i enjoy hating kesha as i listen to it. i think n1tsuh’s piece kind of contextualized her for me.
54. DRAKE "Fireworks (Deadboy Slo Mo House Edit)"this rules rules rules, but i kind of wanted it to kick a little more? my ear wants a 2step beat i think. really pretty, one of the best things here. thanks tim!
45. NICOLAS JAAR "WOUH"ooh, pretty
39. LIL B "The Age of Information"is this guy serious? yes, he’s very serious. this is terrific. we have a lot of heartfelt pretty music on this list but this damn near beats all of it i think.
38. KATY B "Katy on a Mission"i can see why this is important. i like the still-homemade quality of it. something about it reminds me of a highschool talent show and i don’t mean that as a diss.
33. THESE NEW PURITANS "We Want War"not bad for jagger shit! lex hates the vocals, but i don’t think they are “indie” so much. reminds me of this heat in a way? extreme music with simple, declamatory working-class (?) english voices on it. i have to say it reminds me of kate bush, too, heh. the non-rock instruments are much better orchestrated than they usually are on rock records somebody went to school!
32. TENSNAKE "Coma Cat"can’t argue with this. if you have some kind of bell/steel drum/chime/detuned twinkly metallic shit on your song, i will like it.
25. TINIE TEMPAH "Pass Out"nice riff. “soon i’ll be the king like prince charles” is kind of a weak boast tho, right?
20. E-40 ft. CLYDE CARSON & HUSALAH "Lightweight Jammin”stuff like this is so elemental and great, i dunno what to say really. i hope there are songs like this around until the lights finally go out.
