'teenage dream' tho is total headphone music

the production is f'ing awful though, would cringe @ sick mouthy coming in here & posting the no doubt blocky wave-form

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

i l u is dece i guess

call all destroyer, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

i have no shame dancing to 'whip my hair' when it comes on in the club, shit is funny & fun, feel a lil embarrassed dancing to 'teenage dream' tho, definitive defense of the concept of a 'guilty pleasure' imo

tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

guess you lost me on the whole 'teenage dream' trip deej...

prolley wouldn't voted for W. Smith but this thread has been nothin but grins for the last 10 mins. thanks to her...

last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

Whip My Hair standing up to a second listen btw :)

acoleuthic, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:32 (fifteen years ago)

Oh the first 30 secs of this is hitting me so hard. Beautiful.

waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:32 (fifteen years ago)

"I L U" is probably the most emotional a song made me get all last year. The "I loved you" line is so much better than "I love you" would be.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:32 (fifteen years ago)

voted for SVIIB-- had i done a ranked ballot, would have been a top contender for my #1

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:32 (fifteen years ago)

like, id feel silly taking it seriously 'in public,' being all *closes eyes* *gets lost in the music* but on my own im like, damn, teenage dream, i remember those days ~gets wistful~

tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:33 (fifteen years ago)

^^^

teledyldonix, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:33 (fifteen years ago)

HELL YES GOOD JOB PPL

(was worried about this one tbh)

my #2

beer, beer, beer (Pillbox), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:33 (fifteen years ago)

omg this song is amazing, i have never heard it before or heard of this artist

teledyldonix, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:34 (fifteen years ago)

am wondering how Heart Is Strange *didn't* make the poll now :/

acoleuthic, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:34 (fifteen years ago)

I've heard ILU before...

I like it. Very affecting. This song reminds me way more of 'Teardrop' than the Kelis one...

last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:34 (fifteen years ago)

wow awesome! didn't think that many people would isolate a SVIIB song from the album - i didn't - but this one is beautiful, really emotional and huge. those crashing drums!

listening back...i'm responding in much the same way i respond to alicia keys' "try sleeping with a broken heart". tiny intimate feelings made epic and screamed from the rooftops.

ok I voted for a different SO7B track (<3 Is Strange) but this one's rly good too

"<3 is strange" was my fav off the album too

lextasy refix (lex pretend), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

also kinda wishing I'd voted for ILU so as to have had *even more* representation itt

acoleuthic, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

2010 was a great year for highly-credible pop-ambient

otm, the past tense slays me.

agree & really hope this ^^ makes the cut

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

Wow that's a pleasant surprise, I voted for the album over any of the singles but ILU is beautiful.

Matt DC, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

ILU sounds straight out of the late 80s

ciderpress, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

Whip My Hair has a Tinie Tempah remix apparently?

Alex in Montreal, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

Voted "Windstorm" instead, but I'm happy to see this so high. On the whole I haven't really been able to get into Disconnect from Desire, despite loving the previous album.

Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

"ILU" is simply outstanding. Right down to its T'Pau drums.

Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

xp a lot of stuff on this poll sounds straight out of the late 80s

call all destroyer, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

best tune on SVIIB aside from "ILU" is "Bye Bye Bye"-- v. underrated, absolutely astounding & a fukkin monster played live

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

my problem with Disconnect From Desire is that IMO it's completely and utterly frontloaded, to the extent to which had it been a four-track EP it'd have been the best EP of the year

do need to give some of the later tracks another listen tho

2010 was a great year for highly-credible pop-ambient (acoleuthic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:38 (fifteen years ago)

don't really care for SOT7B. this song reminds me of that crystal castles tune i didn't much like earlier, though it's miles better, obv. i realize that there's a huge ILM support contingent for this kind of soft focus "dream pop," and i'm not putting it down, just noting that it frequently leaves me cold. there's beauty here, but it's too refined, not of the sort that works its way under my skin. puppet goresex was kind of cool.

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:38 (fifteen years ago)

underrated 2010 SVIIB track is "Camarilla" imo.

beer, beer, beer (Pillbox), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:39 (fifteen years ago)

love the MBV ending and must admit I'd be interested in listening to the whole So7B album...

last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:39 (fifteen years ago)

The entire SVIIB album is end-to-end great.

Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:41 (fifteen years ago)

xp contenderizer

I kind of agree - I fell a lot harder for Alpinisms because it had a hazy enigmatic quality that embraced the listener completely, whereas DfD is cleaner and I'd go with "too refined" to trigger the same immersive listening experience.

Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:41 (fifteen years ago)

wish ned raggett had voted & no doubt boosted "ILU" another couple spots ;_;

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:42 (fifteen years ago)

whereas DfD is cleaner and I'd go with "too refined" to trigger the same immersive listening experience.

agree re: the production values (i like the first one better too, just barely)

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:42 (fifteen years ago)

Agree. I like the 2nd album more than the first (and I like the first one a great deal). xps

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

I considered adding a proxy Ned ballot that just had SVIIB for #1 track and album.

Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

^wz just going to mention Ned...know the album wz his favorite of the year.

xxxp to ilxor

last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

My xpost was to DavidM

me too.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

the newer songs are absolutely massive live-- SVIIB best experienced in that setting & pretty much everyone i've talked to that has seen them would agree w/r/t this

yeah - feel really lucky that i got to see them in a tiny, tiny venue last year

13. SLEIGH BELLS "Rill Rill" [532 points, 19 votes, 1 first place vote]
Youtube

(sidenote: Official video just released for this song today, but it's not on the youtubes.)

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:47 (fifteen years ago)

h8 this band

that band's done one good album w/ Now Here Is Nowhere... all downhill since then, & glad Ben made the decision to get out before the ship really began to sink u_u

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

they are working with beyonce on her new album lol

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

Couldn't choose btw 'rill rill' and 'tell 'em' so voted for both. Album is in my top 5 of the year even if it is painful to listen to on headphones.

waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

i like most sleigh bells songs alright, but this one suxxxxxx

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

Hmm...the one time I tried listening to the Sleigh Bells albums, it just made me feel old (I'm not that old). Will try again.

Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:50 (fifteen years ago)

"Infinity Guitars" is my go-to Sleigh Bells track, but I like this one just fine.
