AND LET THE WILLOW REIGN BEGIN! :D

lextasy refix (lex pretend), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:20 (fifteen years ago)

i mean, this isn't a terrible song, but i feel that pop fans repping for katy perry is like...a chart version of stockholm syndrome

So OTM. When I listen to however many hours of the Top 40 radio stations at work, "Teenage Dream" sounds really good next to, say, Maroon 5, but no way in hell would I ever go out of my way to put it on.

Gukbe, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:20 (fifteen years ago)

yesss i knew this must be coming soon

teledyldonix, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:21 (fifteen years ago)

acoleuthic, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:21 (fifteen years ago)

hey lex what do you think are the chances that "jump up in the air" will crack top 15?

last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:21 (fifteen years ago)

The rest of the Scissor Sisters album is OK, nothing as garishly bad as on the last one, but Invisible Light is the only Invisible Light-ish one.

― Groke, Thursday, January 27, 2011 10:18 AM (2 minutes ago) Bookmark

yeah this - rest of the album is solid, but less epic and much more tongue-in-cheek

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:21 (fifteen years ago)

that's a quality placement for whip my hair

call all destroyer, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

"teenage dream" is a potentially great song ruined by an awful singer

^^ wouldn't go that far, but I do think the vox are too thin for this to truly vie for 'girly-pop anthem of the year' status.

beer, beer, beer (Pillbox), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

Another one I somehow missed until I heard it on Girl Talk. Pretty undeniable really.

waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

Prefer the video for this to the actual song.

Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

WHIP YO EXORCIST = the best thing i saw on the internet in 2010

I love Whip Your Hair so much. As I said somewhere else, it's rare that you get massive selling pop rap hits these days that are also goofy and joyful and silly without them being some kind of corny Will.i.am confection but this has the sort of sense of fun and innocence that I associate with Groove Is In The Heart and Betty Boo and the like, although it doesn't some like either. Fantastic.

Matt DC, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:23 (fifteen years ago)

lol I was talking about "Fireworks" in that Singles Jukebox blurb, "Teenage Dream" isn't a 1 but I still can't stand her.

Groke, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:23 (fifteen years ago)

I know, I still thought it pertinent though.

Matt DC, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:23 (fifteen years ago)

The Scissor Sisters song is okay-ish, not sure quite what it is doing up so high on this poll though. I was going to add that it's very Pet Shop Boys - but it's more actually Pet Shop Boys...

I don't normally make jokes.

Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:24 (fifteen years ago)

lol @ deej hating on taio/ke$ha but repping for katy perry

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:24 (fifteen years ago)

the Katy Perry song seems like bland middle-American mall music to me, but I have to give it credit for evoking that vibe so effectively... strangely in the mood to put on a toe ring and ride around town in a brightly colored Honda convertible after hearing it.

Invisible Light = cool song (if not overly referential), great video.

damn this thread is moving fast!

rockapads, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:24 (fifteen years ago)

haaaaaaa @ this song

not rly my thing but I like it and approve thoroughly of it being today's chartpop of choice, if that makes sense

and the production is surprisingly good for a song of its type

it fucking slays the 'this is reeeal' desperation of kt pry back into the cesspit whence it emanated

acoleuthic, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:26 (fifteen years ago)

LMAO LJ what happened to swirl-house?

last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:29 (fifteen years ago)

kind of love "whip my hair" and have for a while, but never considered voting for it. dumb of me, really. good antidote to katy perry blahs.

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:29 (fifteen years ago)

i think 'whip my hair' is good but in a way that doesnt have me listening to it a bunch of my own initiative, but enjoying hearing it socially. idk doesnt feel like there's much to listening to it on my own.

'teenage dream' tho is total headphone music as much as it is social, one of those internal 'meaningful' pop moments that is both communal & private

Pre-teens are entitled to their music, but I personally couldn't bear to listen to that Willow Smith song for more than a minute, sorry.

ILU, "ILU"!

Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

whew just got back to my pc

surprised at lightweight jammin placing so high! i guess it had its own thread so non-swag-crew folks heard it. great song.

ciderpress, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

ok I voted for a different SO7B track (<3 Is Strange) but this one's rly good too

acoleuthic, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

'teenage dream' tho is total headphone music

the production is f'ing awful though, would cringe @ sick mouthy coming in here & posting the no doubt blocky wave-form

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

i l u is dece i guess

call all destroyer, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

i have no shame dancing to 'whip my hair' when it comes on in the club, shit is funny & fun, feel a lil embarrassed dancing to 'teenage dream' tho, definitive defense of the concept of a 'guilty pleasure' imo

tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

guess you lost me on the whole 'teenage dream' trip deej...

prolley wouldn't voted for W. Smith but this thread has been nothin but grins for the last 10 mins. thanks to her...

Whip My Hair standing up to a second listen btw :)

acoleuthic, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:32 (fifteen years ago)

Oh the first 30 secs of this is hitting me so hard. Beautiful.

waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:32 (fifteen years ago)

"I L U" is probably the most emotional a song made me get all last year. The "I loved you" line is so much better than "I love you" would be.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:32 (fifteen years ago)

voted for SVIIB-- had i done a ranked ballot, would have been a top contender for my #1

the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:32 (fifteen years ago)

like, id feel silly taking it seriously 'in public,' being all *closes eyes* *gets lost in the music* but on my own im like, damn, teenage dream, i remember those days ~gets wistful~
