Decent song, way overrated. She doesn't deserve to be on any list bcz of "California Girl" and "Fireworks" quite frankly.

I first heard about LCD when they first came out from p4k...the whole self-referential hipster "songs about other bands" thing that they shared with Art Brut I thought was a very unappealing direction for 'indie' or w/e + it was an early indication that the whole thing wz running out of steam, so I ignored it...later on ILM & other places I saw that Sounds of Silver & "All My Friends" were topping the '07 list. "All My Friends" is a pretty decent song: it's kind of Lethem-y, and I kind of hate Lethem, but still...I kind of thought though the idea of that song being the best of any year wz p ridiculous.
I still want to hear Sounds of Silver solely on the basis that it did so well on the ILM half-decade albums poll. but yeah I tend (possibly wrongly) to interpret ranking LCD as a shortcut around listening/thinking...
that said, I wd feel disingenuous slagging off Dance Yrself Clean (a dece tune in its entirety) and not Invisible Light...

Scissors Sister track is solid.

Is this one of the deals that was mentioned way up thread where because of Copyright concerns the vocal is pitched wrong? Or is this how Katy Perry sounds? I'm finding it unremarkable but maybe it needs repeat listens.
― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:12 (fifteen years ago)
Invisible Light reminds me a little of Shampain...lots of Frankie in it, but some of the ABBA influence that others detected in Marina.
I like it alright.

hahahahahahaha no that's how she sounds. it's awful and wrecks even potentially decent songs like this and "california gurls". i mean, this isn't a terrible song, but i feel that pop fans repping for katy perry is like...a chart version of stockholm syndrome

holy crap that "invisible light" video! can't believe i'd never seen that, circuits fried, gdglzdsedhck. jodorowsky, polanski, rinse dream, 70s horror/fantasy/sci-fi, valerie and her week of wonders, such an amazing mash-up of mystical sex nonsense.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:14 (fifteen years ago)

ppl shd go back to shampain w/o thinking 'lol britishes' - it rly is chock-full of intelligent popcraft and punch
invisible light video is pitched somewhere b/w el guincho and grinderman 'heathen light' video - a good year for surrealist ott
― acoleuthic, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:14 (fifteen years ago)
Sounds like the Pet Shop Boys to me. - yeah, sounds like a DFA version of PSB (& I mean that as a GOOD thing).
This is the first I've heard of them in a long time as well. Does the rest of the album sound like this?
― beer, beer, beer (Pillbox), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:15 (fifteen years ago)
and i thought this was a very average, even underwhelming song at first, but by the end of the year it was close to the top of my list. it is the only katy perry single i've heard that hasn't gotten old or unbearably annoying over time.

Scissor Sisters video was made by CANADA, the same group who made the El Guincho video (and other eye candy videos). I hope the style doesn't get overused/overexposed, because they're still doing excellent work as of right now.

Damn I've been working crazy hours the past couple days, haven't been able to keep up with this monster of a countdown and now the top 20 has already started. Hearing more than half of these for the first time. F it, just gonna give my quick opinions now.

Tom Ewing: As a pop fan it is always irksome when people take the line that you are some kind of uncritical shill for The Man, so stars like Katy Perry fulfil a useful purpose. Look! I can say, here is somebody who actually DOES represent the rapacious plunge towards the lowest common denominator, the cynical application of technology over talent, the descent of culture into an abyss of stupidity and sparkler bras. Now be off with you and leave me to my Justin Bieber records.[1]

katy perry tune is another one of those that i understand the popularity of but don't really care about. i don't mean that i don't care for it, cuz it's a fun tune and can be enjoyable in the right circumstances, but i don't have strong feelings about in any particular direction.
