ok, 'window seat' is the best track on this poll i hadn't know about
fucking yes
― acoleuthic, Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:58 (fifteen years ago)
The LCD album is just a bit dull, and I *loved* Sound of Silver and the early singles.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:58 (fifteen years ago)
lol Window Seat was a pretty big deal over here LJ

― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:59 (fifteen years ago)
ehhh here's a youtube for erykah's "jump up in the air and stay there", the amazing psychedelic trailer single for the album that never made it on. WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK / WE ON THE CEILING STUCK
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:59 (fifteen years ago)
Seems like a lot of backlash against the P4k canon (except for Caribou).
yeah, see the P&J 2010 thread for much (much) more detail
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:59 (fifteen years ago)
my #1!!!

is this song from 1987?
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:00 (fifteen years ago)
Is that the one with Ian McKellen on it? That's alright that one. Didn't expect it to place at all though.

Good man, ddave.
It wasn't my #1, but I sure as hell campaigned to get people voting for it.

Also is that the first song with more than one #1 vote?
― Matt DC, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:01 (fifteen years ago)
it sounds like a less-tasteful love and rockets
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:01 (fifteen years ago)
see, I think the new LCD is more consistent than SOS (even tho comes remotely close to "All My Friends"). I do think it is better than their debut LP.
Early singles comp. will always be the standard-bearer.
― beer, beer, beer (Pillbox), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:01 (fifteen years ago)
*nothing comes remotely..
early singles comp aside, i think This is Happening is their best album.

Another one I voted for - it's like a dream meeting of The Juan Maclean and Ace of Base.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:02 (fifteen years ago)
omg chord-change at the end of invisible light chorus :D

― teledyldonix, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:04 (fifteen years ago)
yeah - i love so many LCD singles but kinda hate all their proper albums.
this scissor sisters track is pretty good - i thought "i don't feel like dancing", which is one of my least fav songs maybe EVER, had put me off them for good, and i avoided them last year, but this pretty much does what i liked about them in the first place. synth breakdown at 3mins pushes my buttons. is the whole album in this vein?
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:04 (fifteen years ago)
luv invisible light, i described it to friends as pink floyd + the beegees + ace of base + LORD OF THE RINGS
― wow...... hmmm.... crazy...... damn….. (diamonddave85), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:04 (fifteen years ago)
so glad to see "invisible light" show up! welcome to the pleasure dome...
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:04 (fifteen years ago)

― Gukbe, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:05 (fifteen years ago)
frankie goes to hollywood album being the other obvious ingredient in "invisible light"

I haven't heard Scissor Sisters for 4 years or so. I don't remember them sounding this good. Wow. I actually like this. V surprised.

― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:09 (fifteen years ago)
Decent song, way overrated. She doesn't deserve to be on any list bcz of "California Girl" and "Fireworks" quite frankly.
― Gukbe, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:09 (fifteen years ago)
i liked this katy perry track when it first hit, but wore out fast. lex otm about her voice being rly rly grating & annoying

btw while the scissor sister's video is amazing, the cut of the song is a little awkward, here's the album version hxxp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rloqlzn2EEg

I first heard about LCD when they first came out from p4k...the whole self-referential hipster "songs about other bands" thing that they shared with Art Brut I thought was a very unappealing direction for 'indie' or w/e + it was an early indication that the whole thing wz running out of steam, so I ignored it...later on ILM & other places I saw that Sounds of Silver & "All My Friends" were topping the '07 list. "All My Friends" is a pretty decent song: it's kind of Lethem-y, and I kind of hate Lethem, but still...I kind of thought though the idea of that song being the best of any year wz p ridiculous.
I still want to hear Sounds of Silver solely on the basis that it did so well on the ILM half-decade albums poll. but yeah I tend (possibly wrongly) to interpret ranking LCD as a shortcut around listening/thinking...
that said, I wd feel disingenuous slagging off Dance Yrself Clean (a dece tune in its entirety) and not Invisible Light...

Scissors Sister track is solid.
― Moodles, Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:11 (fifteen years ago)
Is this one of the deals that was mentioned way up thread where because of Copyright concerns the vocal is pitched wrong? Or is this how Katy Perry sounds? I'm finding it unremarkable but maybe it needs repeat listens.
― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 18:12 (fifteen years ago)
Invisible Light reminds me a little of Shampain...lots of Frankie in it, but some of the ABBA influence that others detected in Marina.
I like it alright.
