Wow, that is waaaay lower than I thought it would be.
LJ what are you talking about? I do not remember ever hearing any snappy metallic synths in an MGMT single
― vienn?tta (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:39 (fifteen years ago)
liking this LCD soundsystem track, way, way better than the last one. could be they might be giants or even electropop half japanese - up into the point where the big beat kicks in, anyway. agree about the beautiful buzzy synth bass sound, but i also like the knife-style steel drum bit, too.
haven't heard this album, but doesn't he want daft punk to come over and play anymore?
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:39 (fifteen years ago)
Looks like I did vote for Window Seat.
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:40 (fifteen years ago)
all f-bombs should be taken w a grain of salt, but still, erykah song doing better in p&j = nagl folx
i've come around a little to "out of my mind" but still feel like it bites "green eyes" in an album-damaging way...

bet he saw them @ coachella
― the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:41 (fifteen years ago)
a synth sound that is basically the one MGMT used in all their hit singles
― acoleuthic
wrong but otm at the same time
― Moka, Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:41 (fifteen years ago)
I mean, yeah, if you only bothered to listen to the first 2 minutes of the song?
― vienn?tta (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:42 (fifteen years ago)
First time hearing this Badu and now I want to hear it again. Lovely.
― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:43 (fifteen years ago)
erykah tune is gorgeous, of course. didn't vote for it, but should have. blame me for the low placing.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:43 (fifteen years ago)
I'm talking about the high synths, not the synth bass in DYC
okok well as I said about the previous LCDS song, the synth tones are not the problem - in fact they're frequently the only thing I like. not my thing. listening to erykah now. it's smoooooth. and a little menacing. nice.

The whole Badu album is classic btw, probably my favourite of hers (though many will disagree).
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:44 (fifteen years ago)
Not that they'll disagree about it being my favourite, but...you know what I mean.
yeah maybe not as classic as part 1 but better than most other albums this year
― Dan S, Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:45 (fifteen years ago)
I couldn't get into the Erykah album straight away (expectations too high after the last one, I think) and ended up not going back to it. Will give that track another listen when I get back, but gotta go for now.
― emil.y, Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:47 (fifteen years ago)
I voted for this - it was one of my main late-spring/early-summer jams!
― beer, beer, beer (Pillbox), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:47 (fifteen years ago)
erykah album is top 10 material-- one of the few that was compelling enough to make both my albums & tracks ballots
― the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:47 (fifteen years ago)
I guess there's a whole thread about this, but am I the only one to think Part 2 > Part 1?
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:48 (fifteen years ago)
that LCD song is the first one on this list that I have really hated. and that synth sounds like a Reason preset to my ears. the whole song just seems so lazy and stiff to me. the only thing dynamic and interesting about it are his thin voice + overindulgent vocal flourishes.
I proudly voted for the Erykah song. its low rank makes me think I should have weighted my votes

no, me, RTC, Tim F, probably others all agree, although iirc something of a majority preferred pt 1
― tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:49 (fifteen years ago)
nah i know a few others do too (deej i think). they're both amazing albums to me - i prefer part 1, but that's not a slight on part 2's completely different qualities
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:49 (fifteen years ago)
part 1 is certainly more earth-shattering, part 2 fits like a comfy pair of earmuffs that i never want to take off
― the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:50 (fifteen years ago)
i really wish "jump up in the air (and stay there)" had made part 2 tho, no idea why it was just a trailer video
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:50 (fifteen years ago)
this song meanders in the absolute best way--after the chorus, instead of going back to the verse Erykah left-turns into the stomp-n-clap of the "I need you to miss me" and then to the "come back, come back baby" and then w/o missing a beat going into the next verse, the way she's wading through all her conflicting emotions that don't quite fit...
stream-of-consciousness soul, y'gotta love it...
― last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:50 (fifteen years ago)
part 1 has 'twinkle' on it so i really doubt part 2 can win this one
it's a lovely song tho, got a real 'protection' era massive attack vibe, although more psych-neo-soul
― acoleuthic, Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:51 (fifteen years ago)
(low ranking my fault too; I didn't think I had heard enough new music to cast a ballot in good conscience...sorry for the fuck you guys)
― last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:51 (fifteen years ago)
am ending up listening to this one on rpt
#20, great beats but don't give a shit about the rap. (Usually my default position w/lyrics in general.)#19, I like it a lot, but I like almost every LCD I've ever heard.#18, very nice -- beautiful melody, but I won't remember it tomorrow -- same as when I first saw the video a few months ago.
I need to collapse the browser windows with the videos so I'm just listening to the songs.

not really getting all the lcd hate/apathy this year tbh
― beer, beer, beer (Pillbox), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:53 (fifteen years ago)
end of year list placement fatigue-- same thing that's happening w/ kanye
― the new mordant & zingy ilxor persona (ilxor), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:54 (fifteen years ago)
(that, and it's not a very good album)
the way she sings "come back baby" when she's the one boarding the plane...Erykah is one of the greats.
― last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:54 (fifteen years ago)
Think it's a great album. Seems like a lot of backlash against the P4k canon (except for Caribou).
― Gukbe, Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:54 (fifteen years ago)
xpost
preferring amerykah pt ii so is dumb imo
― flopson, Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:55 (fifteen years ago)
*is so
Listening to the Badu album again now, I could have voted for half a dozen of these tracks...
― Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:55 (fifteen years ago)
always disliked LCD--will explain this in a min...
could be that "come back baby" is her imagining what the signif other is saying now that she's left? idk...
― last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:56 (fifteen years ago)

ok, 'window seat' is the best track on this poll i hadn't know about
fucking yes
― acoleuthic, Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:58 (fifteen years ago)
The LCD album is just a bit dull, and I *loved* Sound of Silver and the early singles.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:58 (fifteen years ago)
lol Window Seat was a pretty big deal over here LJ

ehhh here's a youtube for erykah's "jump up in the air and stay there", the amazing psychedelic trailer single for the album that never made it on. WE DON'T GIVE A FUCK / WE ON THE CEILING STUCK
