re: Caribou, i'm really going to have to get into them, Odessa is prolley the favorite of my discoveries from this thread, plus the song Melody Day (heard in a coffeeshop) is really good...

everyone is commanded to watch the ciara video
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:07 (fifteen years ago)
"hold yuh" is magnificent, no half, maybe my favorite thing to show so far
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:07 (fifteen years ago)

yess!!!
― prolego, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:08 (fifteen years ago)
hey lex did they play that Hold Yuh song a lot in the student kettles...?
(...I don't know what I'm talking about, but I think it's the demonstrations in London by students protesting the gov't withdrawal of financial aid for college students that kept getting kettled by the police?)

Hold Yuh is so so great, wish I'd heard it in the actual summer.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:10 (fifteen years ago)
another of my votes - though damn, thought it'd be way higher. "ride" is fucking amazing - soooo good to vibe out to, it's a staple of my "strippa in my mind" itunes playlist. LEFT HIP - RIGHT HIP - PUT YA BACK INTO IT
YES (tho the explicit version of the song is more satisfying to listen to)
and yes and yes - my friend dan wrote a great thing about the music played that day
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:10 (fifteen years ago)
Oh, I forgot "Ride" was one of those tracks of late where the artist opens the song by singing his/her own name. That trend needs to die a quick death.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:11 (fifteen years ago)
I'm really liking the Wiz Khalifa and Lil B tracks, neither of which I'd heard before. Earl Sweatshirt up next.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:11 (fifteen years ago)
yeah lex it's on yr riot playlist :)
i'm lookinag at that right now
― last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:11 (fifteen years ago)

i could've posted a screencap that is pretty much ciara's vagina hanging out, but i decided not to
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:13 (fifteen years ago)
"ride" is great, but anything would feel like a comedown after "hold yuh"
love ciara's snarly lip-synching during the luda verse
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:13 (fifteen years ago)
deej i don't think tehre's an official video? the one i linked under the image is the full length song tho

― tuomascratch beat (deej), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:14 (fifteen years ago)
the song is so great tho -- my favorite part of it all is how it just keeps grinding & grinding lower -- it echoes the sentiment of the song (or the other way around!) in a very organic & sly way
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:14 (fifteen years ago)
i don't understand people sometimes
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:14 (fifteen years ago)
i love the way she stutters within the smoothness. "i market it so good, they can't wait to try-y-y-y-y me-e-e-e; i work it so good, man these niggas tryna buy-y-y-y-y me"
and that beat is so deeeeep - synths and vox rising off the song like steam
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:14 (fifteen years ago)
also want to dissent on 'need your lovin' which n/a would be totally otm about sounding like it could have come out 25 years ago, and its not exactly improving on anything from then
coma cat, tho, sounds fairly unique

God love this so so much from the astounding opening 10 seconds onwards.
― waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:17 (fifteen years ago)
Brilliant of course, voted for this even if it's super old
I also like the Fan Death Reworks mix, cheeky take on the original version's super intricate production.
― skip, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:18 (fifteen years ago)
Is it just me, or does everyone else hear this song biting "For the Love of Money" as well? Not that it matters. I still think it's excellent.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:18 (fifteen years ago)
'coma cat' & 'lovesick' are both undeniable but i also feel like i never really connected w/ them, like a pop song that you like thru its omnipresence & the way it fits a bunch of overlapping venn diagram bubbles rather than thru qualities that you love. i know 'focus group tested' is usually used as a pejorative but there wasnt the shock/awe of, like, early lindstrom for me from either

Love 'Ride' but I'm watching the video for the first time and........................................................
This is a tremendous run of songs, Robyn aside, probably the best in any ILM poll. Lovesick is so effortlessly cool sounding.

Hardly anything from my ballot is appearing, I've just noticed. This is like the third thing.
― Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:19 (fifteen years ago)
"lovesick" is great obv but that jpg makes me think: why the FUCK have i not managed to see l&c live yet?
meanwhile i wonder whether ciara's "gimmie dat" will place; if it doesn't, i'll just command everyone to go look up that incredible O_O video too. she was responsible for such a mountain of great music last year.
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:20 (fifteen years ago)
one of the weirdest/best dancefloor moments i had last year was seeing the hosts of this dance party on a stage dressed as troll dolls performing a choreographed dance to "lovesick"
― opeth winfrey (donna rouge), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:20 (fifteen years ago)
hell yes! first thing i voted for to actually show. would have been the second, but i accidentally voted for the wrong earl track, forgot to update my ballot at the last minute. anyway, hell yes! love this record, love love love this song.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:20 (fifteen years ago)
a mountain of great music last year.
i can't be the only one that read this as "a mountain of goat music last year"

very pissed that Lindstrom is coming to the US but only stopping in NY and California.

yes johnny -- "lovesick" had the same number of points as ciara but needed 6 more votes
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:22 (fifteen years ago)
well if we're so sure "gimmie dat" isn't placing the video is here and i am in awe, actual awe, of her moves in it
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:23 (fifteen years ago)
this next one showed up considerably higher in the other major polls
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:24 (fifteen years ago)
goddam, i could listen to "lovesick" all day. if i had to have just one track from my ballot show up, glad it was this one. in retrospect, i ranked it way, way too low.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:24 (fifteen years ago)
lmfao i hope it's "fuck you" aka i hope it's not in the top 10 etc
― teledyldonix, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:25 (fifteen years ago)
was kinda hoping "fuck you" would just not show period. naive?

beyond naive tbh

I like "Lovesick" a lot, but "Baby Can't Stop" (which I realize is a 2009 single) is so clearly the highlight of that album that I never really mentally isolated any of the other tracks.
