I love the arpeggio that goes through the whole song - there's a little bit of variation once the chorus starts, but by then it's overshadowed anyway. Kind of recalls the backing track of With Every Heartbeat.

this is the only robyn song that i heard last year that i liked. i don't get the love for "dancing on my own" at all, but i'm sure it'll be higher up in this poll.
― prolego, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)
eh j0rdan i think i might have just pressed the SB instead of the permalink that happened to be on your last post
― zvookster, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)
"I know what's on your mind / there will be time for that too" <-love that. I love the yearning and sweetness in Robyn's voice on this.
― Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)
The vocals are also very tastefully done with some great harmonies. Sorry but I could go on and on about this track...

I like her arpeggiating too! Well done.

is any scissor sisters going to make the top 30?
― skip, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:52 (fifteen years ago)

― teledyldonix, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:53 (fifteen years ago)

Really liked both Caribou tracks that have shown up on here. They are a group I've been meaning to check out for a long time, but never get around to it. Probably need to double up my efforts!

yesss i adore this one. i haven't heard the funkystepz remix before, guess now's my opportunity
― teledyldonix, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:55 (fifteen years ago)
I only heard this Gyptian track for the first time about a week or so ago, but I'd have considered voting for it if I'd heard it earlier. Really good.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:56 (fifteen years ago)
the gyptian track is so good -- i didn't vote for it but it's probably the song of the summer for me, by association
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:56 (fifteen years ago)
not trying to do a tuomas here, but where would these 2 tracks have placed if votes for both versions hadn't been combined?
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:56 (fifteen years ago)
HOLD YUH!!!!!!!!!
to me, this was THE most ubiquitous song of the year, the one that i was most likely to hear in the wild. idk whether the youtube j0rdan linked is the version with nicki minaj's guest spot, but that's the one i heard most often. lots of excellent work on the riddim, too - in the "hold yuh" thread, lady chann's "feel calm" went down particularly well.
"hold yuh" is the highest of my votes to place so far <3
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:57 (fifteen years ago)
I'm really shocked Hang With Me made it, it's a good song but I prefer so many of the other songs on those albums.
I'm hoping Dancing On My Own will make the top ten.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:57 (fifteen years ago)
idgi
― Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:57 (fifteen years ago)
tbh tho i kind of thought "hold yuh" would make the top 10 :(

Loving this run of tunes - equally divided between stuff I voted for and stuff I'm enjoying discovering.

"hold yuh" is probably the 2010 song i have the most pleasant memories tied to - just hearing it playing out of like, every car in brooklyn in the summer always made me so happy
― opeth winfrey (donna rouge), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:00 (fifteen years ago)
Huh, I've never even heard of it.
― Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:00 (fifteen years ago)
Me either.

Guess it's hard for me to imagine every car in Brooklyn playing a song that peaked at #77 on the Hot 100, but OK.

We all live in bubbles.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:02 (fifteen years ago)
otm - when i first heard i wasn't, like, OMG BEST SONG EVER. but every time i heard it blaring out of a car or a house or at a party or in a club or in parliament fucking square during the fucking student protests with a gang of kids doing the dutty wine around burning benches and rapping along to nicki - "TELL EM FI GWAN, EVICTION" - another amazing memory was overlaid on top of the last, and yeah, it might not have been my number one but it's one of those songs that's just going to take me right back to 2010 for my whole life.
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:02 (fifteen years ago)
i actually never heard it on the radio at all, surprised it peaked that high tbh. maybe it was more popular in certain cities?
― teledyldonix, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:03 (fifteen years ago)
Nor me, it doesn't seem particularly stand-out-y so wth at the high placing?

I gave Invisible Light a lot of points, hoping that could sneak into the list.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:04 (fifteen years ago)
All it took was for 12 people who really like it a lot to get it to #29.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:05 (fifteen years ago)
it's a song that grew on me over the course of several months since i heard it in the summer. if i had heard it for the first time just now i'm sure i would be saying the same
― teledyldonix, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:05 (fifteen years ago)

hey lex did they play that Hold Yuh song a lot in the student kettles...?
(...I don't know what I'm talking about, but I think it's the demonstrations in London by students protesting the gov't withdrawal of financial aid for college students that kept getting kettled by the police?)

Hold Yuh is so so great, wish I'd heard it in the actual summer.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:10 (fifteen years ago)
another of my votes - though damn, thought it'd be way higher. "ride" is fucking amazing - soooo good to vibe out to, it's a staple of my "strippa in my mind" itunes playlist. LEFT HIP - RIGHT HIP - PUT YA BACK INTO IT
YES (tho the explicit version of the song is more satisfying to listen to)
and yes and yes - my friend dan wrote a great thing about the music played that day
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 19:10 (fifteen years ago)
Oh, I forgot "Ride" was one of those tracks of late where the artist opens the song by singing his/her own name. That trend needs to die a quick death.
