so what's the difference?

It depends on what you're a stan of and what you like to debase.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:34 (fifteen years ago)

wow awesome

ciderpress, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:34 (fifteen years ago)

shit, tensnake is way more my speed. love the steel drum/bells bit! one of my favorites of what's come up today, though there's lots of competition.

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:34 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah I wasn't really sold on Coma Cat until I heard it on a club. The club was previously playing Guetta house pop stuff so as cheesy as this is it was a very welcome refreshing and euphoric moment for me.

Not feeling 'these new puritans' but happy that it's here. It keeps the list healthy, with variety which is usually lacking at this stage of the ranking.

Moka, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

earl video is probably nsfw btw

ciderpress, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

Is this the barbershop one? Oh it is, or all his videos set in a barbershop? Like this.

waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

Need Your Lovin is also terrific. I think Coma Cat beats Beam Me Up in the anthem stakes for sheer ubiquity but they're both great.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

This is the first artist in the ranking whose existence I was completely unaware of.

Moka, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

I really tried with Earl Sweatshirt, honest...but I'm clearly not his target demo.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

"earl" was in my top 5

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

Voted for Earl.

emil.y, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

the assonance in that song is unreal

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

Like the first youtube comment "if its real, they're fucking crazy. if its fake, they're fucking crazy."

waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

so I've heard the Earl disc but not Bastard. what's the general feeling about which is better?

Dan S, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

kinda knew "earl" was gonna do well. great track though, glad to see it place.

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

that video is so disturbing, i have tried to watch it many times but i don't think i have succeeded in getting all the way through

teledyldonix, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:37 (fifteen years ago)

that Earl song is awesome!!! first song since the Swans to show up that was on my hypothetical ballot...!

last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:38 (fifteen years ago)

itt a strange man asks you if you saw the assonance

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:38 (fifteen years ago)

I have seen this video like 3x and never realized that woman's head was a mannequin head adn not his hairdresser or w/e

vienn?tta (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:39 (fifteen years ago)

the video made me like "earl" much less - listening back on mp3 though, it's definitely a great song - the bass is immense

lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:39 (fifteen years ago)

Was listening to some Tyler the Creator for the first time last night and it's pretty impressive. 'Earl' is sheer awesomeness, though.

emil.y, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:40 (fifteen years ago)

the general feeling is that the earl album is better, but i'd definitely check for bastard were i u

zvookster, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:40 (fifteen years ago)

thx i will

Dan S, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:41 (fifteen years ago)

the earl video is disgusting but it's also pretty funny

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:41 (fifteen years ago)

first saw the Earl video when Doran put it up on the Witch House thread...it kind of works well over there actually...

last night a Drugs A. Money saved my life (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:41 (fifteen years ago)

His rapping is so unforced. I'm liking this more every time I'm hearing it.

waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure that this is "video" for Coma Cat. It's a short edit of the song.

30. ROBYN "Hang With Me" [346 points, 14 votes]
Youtube

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

love the video, but yeah, like to give me the heaves. one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums of the year. endless<3<3<3

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

I don't get the appeal of Robyn. There I said it.

Moka, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

by that last i mean EARL

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

That Earl track is great. Twice as oppressive as We Want War.

"Hang With Me" - I voted!

Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

wow, shocked this made it. i adore this song though -- in a way my fav robyn song from the body talk project. i voted for it instead of "dancing on my own" since i figured there's no way that wouldn't make it.

teledyldonix, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

This would have been my #1 if I had done a weighted tracks ballot. One arguable tiny misstep in the lyrics ("I know what's on your mind / there will be time for that too") but otherwise a flawless track. And the video is lovely.

skip, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

First of today's run that I haven't heard before. It's okay.

waka flocka flamini (pandemic), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

I don't get the appeal of Robyn. There I said it.

seems i saw a lot more people saying this last year - glad of it. so not feeling her, or her status as the chosen token "pop" "star" for indie kids

lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

the robyn song is okay idk

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:46 (fifteen years ago)

Love "Hang With Me," but don't think I voted for it (voted "Dancing on My Own" instead), but I volleyed between several Robyn tracks over the course of last year with each being my favorite on any given day.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:46 (fifteen years ago)

her status as the chosen token "pop" "star" for indie kids

I'm not cap'n-save-a-indie-kid or anything, but is that necessary? I've never seen evidence anywhere of anyone wearing Robyn as some kind of a pop badge. People just like Robyn.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:47 (fifteen years ago)

robyn track is fine, and i'm usually a sucker for rolling synth arpeggios, but it leaves me cold. not gonna say i don't get the appeal.

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:48 (fifteen years ago)

I love the arpeggio that goes through the whole song - there's a little bit of variation once the chorus starts, but by then it's overshadowed anyway. Kind of recalls the backing track of With Every Heartbeat.

skip, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:48 (fifteen years ago)

this is the only robyn song that i heard last year that i liked. i don't get the love for "dancing on my own" at all, but i'm sure it'll be higher up in this poll.

prolego, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

eh j0rdan i think i might have just pressed the SB instead of the permalink that happened to be on your last post

zvookster, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

"I know what's on your mind / there will be time for that too" <-love that. I love the yearning and sweetness in Robyn's voice on this.

Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

The vocals are also very tastefully done with some great harmonies. Sorry but I could go on and on about this track...

skip, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:50 (fifteen years ago)

she is okay, but she is no teddybears stckhlm

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:50 (fifteen years ago)

I like her arpeggiating too! Well done.

Moodles, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:51 (fifteen years ago)

is any scissor sisters going to make the top 30?

skip, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:52 (fifteen years ago)

lmao "the robyn song is ok idk" => sb

teledyldonix, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:53 (fifteen years ago)

also yes, her voice works extremely well for this song

teledyldonix, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:53 (fifteen years ago)
