I think it may have something to do with live drums processed like booming dance drums plus "intensity".

"coma cat" is a great track that i completely forgot about when making my own list ;_;

this track has basically the most perfect hook ever.

actually once you start drawing TNP comparisons outside of british indie - nine inch nails/massive attack/tori amos/indeed anyone in the late 90s playing around with industrial/modern classical/electronic influences, and there were lots of them - TNP suddenly seems way less impressive.

Didn't hear the Tensnake until 2 weeks ago otherwise it would have made my list for sure.

TNP is, uh, okay. Kind of wrote quite a lot here but have deleted it, suffice it to say that the fact that they are clearly influenced by stuff I love dearly brings me quite close to hating them.

Tensnake is well cheesy.

did y'all hear "need your lovin", btw? the b-side of "coma cat" - a proper fully vocal disco track, really amazing.

OK - I was about to give up on the Tensnake track, but then those awesome synth steel drums came in around 2:00 and I was sold.

Coma Cat just feels like one of those timelessly perfect house records, like Chime/Voodoo Ray level perfect. It sends dancefloors into states of ridiculous grinning euphoria.

"Coma Cat" seems like it needs a club atmosphere to be properly enjoyed, so I'm only enjoying it at 50% potential right now.

okay, on a more closely attentive second pass, i feel ... much the same about "we want war". it's hugely impressive, overwhelming and immersive. i can't deny it, but i don't know that i actually like it very much. i'm not sure though. there are elements that i adore, and others that bore me a little. i'm curious about the band, especially given the this heat comparisons, so i plan to spend a bit more time with it.

but almost all of the dance tracks on this thread, to my admittedly uneducated ears, sounds like it came out 15 years ago, and apparently that makes it no less impressive to ILM, so what's the difference?

Did the Tensnake remix of "Manthem" get nominated? Kind of paint by numbers but I enjoyed that a lot this year.

it's actually the only one i've heard! apart from his remix of john talabot's "matilda's dream", which is ok but the original is AMAZING. i shall have to remedy that, i think.

whatevs, i probably shouldn't be opining on the dance tracks, I don't really know anything about anything. i like the nicolas jaar track though.

shit, tensnake is way more my speed. love the steel drum/bells bit! one of my favorites of what's come up today, though there's lots of competition.

Yeah I wasn't really sold on Coma Cat until I heard it on a club. The club was previously playing Guetta house pop stuff so as cheesy as this is it was a very welcome refreshing and euphoric moment for me.

Not feeling 'these new puritans' but happy that it's here. It keeps the list healthy, with variety which is usually lacking at this stage of the ranking.

Need Your Lovin is also terrific. I think Coma Cat beats Beam Me Up in the anthem stakes for sheer ubiquity but they're both great.
