plz let it be taylor
haven't we had enough tracks from the taylor swift album already?
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:08 (fifteen years ago)
yes, which means there's one more probably
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:09 (fifteen years ago)
was just checking out "nite air" and my wife asked "what is this crap?" it's pretty bad, seems "tasteful"

more like 'graceful' imo. burial's usual stuff seems much more 'tasteful' & less pop to me than 'night air'
― tuomascratch beat (deej), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:09 (fifteen years ago)
the groove is so electric on it
― tuomascratch beat (deej), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:10 (fifteen years ago)
i agree w/ deej
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:10 (fifteen years ago)
Oh here we go, a track from my ballot at last. The only other one being Crystal Castles.
― Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:10 (fifteen years ago)
yeah, i dunno how i feel about "born free". loved it at first, but there's a lot of other tracks on the the album that i prefer at this point. but johnny fever OTM: the david letterman performance with martin rev was fucking all time, one of the most amazing pieces of live music i've ever seen on television. deserves the placement just for that.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:11 (fifteen years ago)
was that the one with like 15 MIA's?
― Dan S, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:12 (fifteen years ago)
The only 3 that have placed so far have been my bottom 3 and, w/ the exception of "Tightrope" and "Window Seat", i'm sort of convinced none of my others will end up here

i have no idea what this is -- i think it's some jagger shit?

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:13 (fifteen years ago)
it is some jagger shit
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:14 (fifteen years ago)
jagger loves it, terrible name, two strikes right there
― tuomascratch beat (deej), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:14 (fifteen years ago)
I get These New Puritans confused with Them Crooked Vultures.
― Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:14 (fifteen years ago)
yeah this is jagger shit but i liked it enough to vote for it!
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:14 (fifteen years ago)
the album that this is from reminds me of This Heat
― Dan S, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:15 (fifteen years ago)
tnp seems to really, really like this heat
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:15 (fifteen years ago)
The album I found a bit wearing, but "We Want War" is terrific.
― Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:16 (fifteen years ago)
Their first album is a little more delightfully off-kilter, but the album from last year is nice too (and I like this song).
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:17 (fifteen years ago)
wow, very nice. another one i shall d/l asap!
― teledyldonix, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:17 (fifteen years ago)
i actually really like this...for the first minute. then the vocal happens. actually even that is not too bad until he starts trying to sing and then...that horrible rapping/chanting shit :o :o
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:17 (fifteen years ago)
dont like this. ruined a good run too
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:18 (fifteen years ago)
man, that new puritans track is super impressive and heavy and all, but i didn't much enjoy listening to it. turned it off after 4 or 5 minutes. i think i liked it best when it was just drumbeats and oppressive synth horns. once it started layering up all industrial with the vocals and noises, i kind of lost interest.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:19 (fifteen years ago)
I'm pretty glad Jack Barnett of TNP says he's done writing for his own voice. Its TNP's limiting factor.
― Pauper Management Improved (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:19 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, this song caught me as soon as I heard it. Hits on a lot of musical elements that I'm a real sucker for.
― Moodles, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:19 (fifteen years ago)
― Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:16 (1 minute ago)
this sums up my attitude to the album pretty much
has a coupla other highlights but WWW towers above the rest like The Shard over London Bridge Bus Garage
astonishing song
btw I literally just got home as J0rdy posted that, and now I've got other stuff to do - timing or what :D
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:19 (fifteen years ago)
I absolutely love the track but I cannot deny sometimes yearning for an edit with just the "we want war" growl and the choral bits.
― Groke, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:19 (fifteen years ago)
very dramatic and portentous but I like it anyway. not something you want to listen to for an entire album but it's quite a 7 minutes.
― skip, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:19 (fifteen years ago)
― Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM)
uh, did this just happen. how have i not noticed this before?
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:20 (fifteen years ago)
I like These New Puritans, but I can't shake the feeling that they are kind of a British nine inch nails. Am I crazy?
― Moodles, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:21 (fifteen years ago)
Astonishing record, just the idea that any Brit indie band would attempt to fuse militaristic cheapo dancehall drums with early 20th century classical music. Don't even mind the vocals any more, actually what it reminds me most of is Inertia Creeps by Massive Attack. I voted it very high.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:21 (fifteen years ago)
btw contenderizer you missed the best 2 minutes of the song
― I've been dancing since 9 and I'm tired and hungry (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:21 (fifteen years ago)
oh ok, clarinet at the end. i'm sold.
― teledyldonix, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:21 (fifteen years ago)
(my #6 and highest-placing)
"we want war" is great, rest of the album is pretty zzzzzz
― congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:22 (fifteen years ago)
bahahahaha. i'm not that familiar w/nine inch nails but i got the impression trent reznor ~emoted~ a bit more, whereas this new puritan's vocal is utterly quintessential british indie can't-be-arsed.
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:22 (fifteen years ago)
Absolutely true, I can't really justify why I hear nin, it's just there...
― Moodles, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:23 (fifteen years ago)
the 1st young gods album in 1987 did this kind of thing way better

― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:23 (fifteen years ago)
i like "we want war" but i sometimes turn it off before the choral bits at the end
― opeth winfrey (donna rouge), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:23 (fifteen years ago)
I think it may have something to do with live drums processed like booming dance drums plus "intensity".
― Moodles, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:24 (fifteen years ago)
this is the first i've ever seen this dude & i'm pretty sure he's just like gr80 irl
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:24 (fifteen years ago)
am listening again, tbh, cuz i felt i'd given it short shrift. i just wasn't ready to feel the darkness. still don't like the guy's vocals when they're given clear prominence, but i'm weathering it out.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:24 (fifteen years ago)
Hey, Tensnake stole my APC40!
"coma cat" is a great track that i completely forgot about when making my own list ;_;
― opeth winfrey (donna rouge), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:24 (fifteen years ago)
this track has basically the most perfect hook ever.
― skip, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:25 (fifteen years ago)
actually once you start drawing TNP comparisons outside of british indie - nine inch nails/massive attack/tori amos/indeed anyone in the late 90s playing around with industrial/modern classical/electronic influences, and there were lots of them - TNP suddenly seems way less impressive.
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:25 (fifteen years ago)
"coma cat" is 7+ long btw so here's the radio edit if anyone wants that instead coma cat edit
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:25 (fifteen years ago)
