black & yellow is that rare rap song that is a straight-up rap song & charts but is liked by clubgoing pop-listening women more broadly

these used to be so common :(

lol @ "clubgoing pop-listening women"

those songs are basically my own favourite type of songs

lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

Ha, maybe explains why I voted for it?

Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

discovered some really good songs for the 1st time today thanks to this poll.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

dont know why thats 'lol,' this is the demographic that made rap music in the early 00s cross over in such a big way

tuomascratch beat (deej), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 17:58 (fifteen years ago)

teledyldonix, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 17:58 (fifteen years ago)

Pauper Management Improved (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:00 (fifteen years ago)

It's just a pity that Nachtmystium - No Funeral wont place in this poll. Was I the only voter?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:00 (fifteen years ago)

dont know why thats 'lol,' this is the demographic that made rap music in the early 00s cross over in such a big way

i guess it was the way you gendered it - obv i know that the demographic you're talking about is primarily female, but it just had this air of "boys don't/can't like this"

lextasy refix (lex pretend), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:00 (fifteen years ago)

AG - No Funeral got more than one vote.

Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:01 (fifteen years ago)

who was the other voter? lol

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:01 (fifteen years ago)

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:02 (fifteen years ago)

vienn?tta (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:03 (fifteen years ago)

i specifically said dudes did like it tho

hey jaymc have you checked my pnj top ten at all?? fives was on it & most of the stuff i voted is fairly pop-y, including the rap

I glanced at it, didn't recognize any of the songs (except for "Lemme Smang It," which I mostly knew as a goon meme), and shrugged. But I'll check 'em out!

Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:05 (fifteen years ago)

I'm just going to keep singing "Pink and Purple" in my head until #33.....

skip, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:06 (fifteen years ago)

Are you allowed to tell me if that's the only MIA track that ranked? Coz like it's great and all but seriously, that is nowhere near the best song on the ablum

vienn?tta (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:06 (fifteen years ago)

Though the Suicide sample was fucking genius imo

vienn?tta (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:06 (fifteen years ago)

starting to worry about my #1

ciderpress, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:06 (fifteen years ago)

i have never heard of caribou?

Before 2005, he was known as Manitoba, if that helps.

Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:06 (fifteen years ago)

lol i said this elsewhere jaymc but i def voted for 'lemme smang it' on the strength of it as a song not its meme ability

tuomascratch beat (deej), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:07 (fifteen years ago)

First song of the day that I voted for.

Moodles, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:07 (fifteen years ago)

was just checking out "nite air" and my wife asked "what is this crap?" it's pretty bad, seems "tasteful"

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:07 (fifteen years ago)

i'm not gonna answer that, stevie

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:07 (fifteen years ago)

I didn't really like "Born Free" until she did it on Letterman with a bunch of M.I.A. clones behind her (and Martin Rev on keyboard).

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:07 (fifteen years ago)

i thought this song was as tuneless and average as anyone else at first but eventually it clicked and i couldn't stop listening to it

and yeah i'm scared my #1 has no chance ;_;

teledyldonix, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:07 (fifteen years ago)

plz let it be taylor

haven't we had enough tracks from the taylor swift album already?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:08 (fifteen years ago)

yes, which means there's one more probably

ciderpress, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:09 (fifteen years ago)

more like 'graceful' imo. burial's usual stuff seems much more 'tasteful' & less pop to me than 'night air'

tuomascratch beat (deej), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:09 (fifteen years ago)

the groove is so electric on it

tuomascratch beat (deej), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:10 (fifteen years ago)

i agree w/ deej

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:10 (fifteen years ago)

Oh here we go, a track from my ballot at last. The only other one being Crystal Castles.

Danzig, with tears in my eyes (DavidM), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:10 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, i dunno how i feel about "born free". loved it at first, but there's a lot of other tracks on the the album that i prefer at this point. but johnny fever OTM: the david letterman performance with martin rev was fucking all time, one of the most amazing pieces of live music i've ever seen on television. deserves the placement just for that.

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:11 (fifteen years ago)

was that the one with like 15 MIA's?

Dan S, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 18:12 (fifteen years ago)

The only 3 that have placed so far have been my bottom 3 and, w/ the exception of "Tightrope" and "Window Seat", i'm sort of convinced none of my others will end up here
