wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 02:55 (fifteen years ago)

stick "i'm god" on there and maybe "i'm free", sequence all this shit nicely and put what you doin as album closer imo

lol it's very hard to stick to the brief and not just start posting "songs i like from lil b"

zvookster, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 03:20 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, I never heard "Myspace" until recently and was like damn, he killed that shit. My favorite new old Lil B joint.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 04:30 (fifteen years ago)

Anyone else hear that 'good swag' in the farnsworth bentley voice?

zvookster, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 21:01 (fifteen years ago)

The irony of course is that beat is from 2001.

What's the beat?

The Reverend, Thursday, 27 January 2011 02:36 (fifteen years ago)

r u my nigga off the realness

zvookster, Thursday, 27 January 2011 02:53 (fifteen years ago)

smh listen 2 your cormegas rev

tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:36 (fifteen years ago)

i do kinda get the feel sometimes that like 90% of lil b's references are going over his audience's heads entirely (not talking about rev here, obv v. knowledgeable dude, but hes a convenient inspiration for that observation)

tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:37 (fifteen years ago)

possibly -- lil b is a massive music nerd and probably listens to more & disparate rap music than even his most ardent fans

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:38 (fifteen years ago)

it's weird how suddenly central cormega seems on ilx lately due to the jacka and lil b, i was gonna start a realness v true meaning poll last week due to it but there was a reason not to i can't remember now, maybe it was justifying leaving his other shit off to make it a bit more interesting to me personally

zvookster, Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:44 (fifteen years ago)

I've never really listened to Cormega tbh, seems so far from what even backpackers here have historically been into. Like there's this whole school of NYC shit that is considered classic by peeps back east but no one here talks about ever that Mega falls into.

The Reverend, Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:44 (fifteen years ago)

Here meaning Seattle or maybe more broadly the west coast, not ILX obv.

The Reverend, Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:46 (fifteen years ago)

backpackers love cormega ime, maybe not on west coast tho (although certainly mob figaz & other gangster dudes are into him there)

tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:49 (fifteen years ago)

Which from where I sit, makes B's interest in that stuff kind of weird and exceptional in a way it wouldn't if he was from east of the Mississippi. self-xp

The Reverend, Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:51 (fifteen years ago)

hes not as much a backpacker tho

tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:52 (fifteen years ago)

which i guess supports your ponit

tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:53 (fifteen years ago)

It seemed back in the early decade backpackers here were mostly into Rawkus cats and LA/bay area dudes. Now it seems more like they're into local dudes and Atmosphere types.

The Reverend, Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:54 (fifteen years ago)

Come to think of it, your average backpacker around here's taste has gone to shit.

The Reverend, Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:57 (fifteen years ago)

when i was in h.s. it felt like being a backpacker was more about an approach to rapping, in the 00s it became about how much u incorporated indie culture & ideas or w/e, as hipsters became a cool thing & def jux or w/e found there was money in pfork reviews. remember their comps w/ like suicide girls on the cover??

danny brown touches on this in noz's interview w/ him

tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 03:58 (fifteen years ago)

I dunno, I never felt like there was any kind of indie/p4k-ization of backpacker values until within the past few years. During the early part of the decade I pretty much was a backpacker and I barely knew indie rock existed. It wasn't until like...dudes started rapping over Peter Bjorn & John and Justice songs that I felt there was any kind of crossover (at least running that direction, indie dudes very well might have been bumping backpacker shit, but that's the other side of the perspective from where I come from, so I just don't know.)

The Reverend, Thursday, 27 January 2011 04:20 (fifteen years ago)

def jux sold trucker hats. they were early adapters

tuomascratch beat (deej), Thursday, 27 January 2011 04:22 (fifteen years ago)

Possibly, I was never into them.

The Reverend, Thursday, 27 January 2011 04:24 (fifteen years ago)

I have a lot to say on this subject. Remind me when I'm on an actual computer

i supposed intersection of backpack rap & hipsters in the early 00s is like, this topic should be whiney's Ulysses
