deej/whiney beef could benefit from more internal rhyme schemes.

the "technique" is there in some sense with all the internal rhymes, but he's lost all sense of how people talk or how natural and relaxed he used to sound on record, he's just this constant hectoring, repetitive irritant.
this. almost hate to see it put so bluntly, but yeah. i may be in the minority in agreeing with this, cuz sure, he's still making hits, but i haven't liked anything i've heard lately, off remedy or elsewhere. and i used to be a fan.

I'm really excited about hearing her album now.
Hear her first one too.

thing about eminem is that his style was really well suited to his youth and the exuberant giddiness of his persona back in the day. he rapped like kids think, like a goofy kid brother all gooned out on froot loops. the same style doesn't suit the angry, bitter-seeming man he's become. like what if weird all had turned into a rage-venting ex-junkie with a massive chip on his shoulder? would anyone want to hear his wacky pop send-ups?

Yeah I was just looking into her albums, are they actually available to buy anywhere? It doesn't look like the latest one actually came out on CD or vinyl at all.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:11 (fifteen years ago)
i think "weird all" was supposed to have fewer letters in it
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:16 (fifteen years ago)
Not sure where you live (sorry), but they're both in the amazon (US) mp3 store. xp
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:16 (fifteen years ago)
I'm in the UK, I will track them down somehow I'm sure. I was just surprised to see no sign of her albums on any physical format anywhere. I'm still someone who likes to own actual CD/vinyls, something I think I will just have to get over.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:25 (fifteen years ago)
I know the first one came out on cd, but it's only on latin import sites last time I looked (and too expensive when the mp3 album is just $9).
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 23:26 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah forget that, I'll get them downloaded. If the albums are anyway near as good as that song I think I may have found my next big obsession.

pretty much dig the results, no strong feelings of revulsion so far, just kinda indifferent abt some
― flopson, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 02:31 (fifteen years ago)
so far the ones i voted for are drake/rihanna/jaar/four tet
― plax (ico), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 02:32 (fifteen years ago)
lemme smang it & dynamite for me. maybe rihanna too, i might have protested in light of the drake feature cant remember

― some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 26 January 2011 02:35 (fifteen years ago)
ok i just listened to lemme smang it and i was all set to hate it
but it's p. great
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 02:43 (fifteen years ago)
so far i f/w:
69. YUNG HUMMA ft. FLYNT FLO$$Y "Lemme Smang It" [236 points, 8 votes, 2 first place votes]66. CASSIE "Skydiver" [242 points, 8 votes]62. SWANS "No Words/No Thoughts" [248 points, 7 votes, 1 first place vote]61. GAMES "Strawberry Skies" [250 points, 7 votes](TIE) 56. KE$HA "We R Who We R" [254 points, 11 votes]55. JUSTIN BIEBER "U Smile (Ambient Version)" [256 points, 9 votes, 1 first place vote]54. DRAKE "Fireworks (Deadboy Slo Mo House Edit)" [260 points, 10 votes]51. GAYNGS "The Gaudy Side of Town" [266 points, 13 votes](TIE) 48. ARIEL PINK'S HAUNTED GRAFFITI "Bright Lit Blue Skies" [270 points, 8 votes, 1 first place vote]47. TAYLOR SWIFT "Back to December" [270 points, 10 votes]45. NICOLAS JAAR "WOUH" [274 points, 8 votes, 1 first place vote]43. EL GUINCHO "Bombay" [280 points, 11 votes]41. LADY GAGA ft. BEYONCÉ "Telephone" [294 points, 11 votes, 1 first place vote]
only surprise so far is "Skyramps", hadn't heard it before and i really love it. i'm rarely into "impressive" vocals, so her thin voice doesn't bother me.
only one i had on my unsent ballot was "Strawberry Skies", also would've voted for Ariel Pink and Nicolas Jaar, but not those tracks. wish i could say i like the Tensnake remix of reckless, but idk why anyone would listen to that instead of the orig, he just took all the punch out of it and inserted some 90s samples. really thought i was gonna loooove the Fives based on Tim F's praise and the reactions itt, plus my suspicion that i'm only not into funky out of laziness, but i was surprised by how completely cold it left me. i like "I'm Fly", not sure if that'll place. shocked at lex's positive reaction to the swans song.
so far i actively dislike:
72. MARINA & THE DIAMONDS "Shampain" [234 points, 10 votes]
kind of amazed there's only one track i actively do not like, others i'm just indifferent to.
sorry for the giant post, can't keep up with the thread right now b/c of work.
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Wednesday, 26 January 2011 02:54 (fifteen years ago)

i'm psyched on a ten number run with room fr 'smang it' and swans
― bear, bear, bear, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 03:09 (fifteen years ago)
for flopson only, also why i don't post to ILM much:
77. DIDDY-DIRTY MONEY "Ass on the Floor" dece song i guess. all i can think about is how lol diddy looks when he tries to rap on letterman or conan or something, its shameful.76. VAMPIRE WEEKEND "Giving Up the Gun" awful. made me give up on being a VW apologist75. AZARI & III "Reckless (With Your Love) (Tensnake remix)" this song is dope and i prob wouldn't have heard it were it not for this poll74. CRYSTAL CASTLES "Celestica" boring.73. TAYLOR SWIFT "Mean" i like taylor swift and i guess this is ok.72. MARINA & THE DIAMONDS "Shampain" wtf is this garbage how did 10 ppl even bother to find this let alone vote for it
The Dream- "Yamaha" better be in the top 371. RIHANNA "What's My Name" not awful. way better rhianna songs tho70. THE FIVES ft. VANYA TAYLOR "It's What You Do (Hottest By Far)" never heard of this before this poll. its ok i guess. should be a rihanna song69. YUNG HUMMA ft. FLYNT FLO$$Y "Lemme Smang It" this song rules. if you don't "get" it then i really don't know what you're doing with your life.68. RICK ROSS ft. STYLES P "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)" i know i'm in the minority here but this is my least favorite song on this record, and i liked this record more than i thought i would.67. THE KNIFE "Colouring of Pigeons" i thought i liked the knife. i turned this shit off about 90 seconds in. 66. CASSIE "Skydiver" her voice is really nice. this song is really boring.(TIE) 64. KELIS "Acapella" this is pretty good. feel like if i could see this song blasting in a gay club on a huge system w/ a bunch of shirtless dudes freaking out to strobe lights i'd fall in love w/ it. are there any remixes? i guess i could google to find out. video is pretty dope too.(TIE) 64. FOUR TET "Love Cry" i guess i don't hate this so much as that i'm bewildered as to why it stands out among so many ILMers.63. JAVIERA MENA "Hasta La Verdad" cool instrumentation but mostly boring. remixes DAM posted improve the situation a little.62. SWANS "No Words/No Thoughts" downloaded this and never listened to it. thanks, poll for reminding me to listen to this obviously awesome song/album61. GAMES "Strawberry Skies" i fuxx with it60. TAYLOR SWIFT "Mine" better than the other taylor swift song, still kind of a good argument to limit this poll to 5059. LCD SOUNDSYSTEM "I Can Change" love it.58. GIL SCOTT-HERON "Me and the Devil" awesome.(TIE) 56. KE$HA "We R Who We R" horrible song.(TIE) 56. NICKI MINAJ ft. EMINEM "Roman's Revenge" this is an awful song all around.55. JUSTIN BIEBER "U Smile (Ambient Version)" i love that this is on here.54. DRAKE "Fireworks (Deadboy Slo Mo House Edit)" pretty cool. how many people would have never heard it were it not for Tim F's year-end thread? thank you, Tim F.53. LADY ANTEBELLUM "Need You Now" how do music nerds actually like this? it mystifies me.52. BEACH HOUSE "Zebra" i like it.51. GAYNGS "The Gaudy Side of Town" this song is without a doubt about 51 places from being the best song of 2011. poll OTM50. TAIO CRUZ "Dynamite" i get that this song is kind of undeniable. i still would have denied it a vote tho.(TIE) 48. KANYE WEST "All of the Lights" turn up the lights more like turn off this song.(TIE) 48. ARIEL PINK'S HAUNTED GRAFFITI "Bright Lit Blue Skies" love it.47. TAYLOR SWIFT "Back to December" yall really like taylor swift huh46. JANELLE MONÁE "Cold War" i thought i only liked the one w/ big boi but this song is pretty good45. NICOLAS JAAR "WOUH" not awful. def boring. i guess i don't "get" this stuff. is this dubstep? what makes this a standout song? explain me.44. CARIBOU "Odessa" awesome song, even awesomer album43. EL GUINCHO "Bombay" just read lex's posts on this song and then imagine me saying the complete opposite. this song is euphoric!!!!!42. HOT CHIP "One Life Stand" king boy pato joke goes here41. LADY GAGA ft. BEYONCÉ "Telephone" this song is awful. i got so mad at ppl saying how amazing this video was last summer i had to give myself a time out
― gr8080, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 03:10 (fifteen years ago)
The Dream- "Yamaha" better be in the top 3

― flopson, Wednesday, 26 January 2011 03:33 (fifteen years ago)
im not that crazy abt the new diddy album either & i have a pet paranoid controversial theory that a lot of ilm contraristans clung to it exaggeratedly hard as an antidote to mbdtf hype. otoh i still feel like i could listen to it one more time & have a huge change of heard. & ass was not my favourite track either. i think i voted for hello good morning though
