(fuck dollar signs)
Garbage is a bad metaphor if you actually like something Johnny
― Tim F, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:04 (fifteen years ago)
I know. I'm not ashamed of it. I was just trying to explain why there's always "garbage" in ILM polls.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:05 (fifteen years ago)
if my ballot is garbage, you're a bunch of maggots
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:05 (fifteen years ago)
lol was Taio Cruz yr #1 J0rdan?
― some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:07 (fifteen years ago)
whoever said Nicki murked Eminem on that track must have been listening to "Love The Why You Lie" and thought Rihanna was Nicki because
― when the president talks to based god (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:08 (fifteen years ago)
whiney i think most of the world thinks nicki murked eminem on that track
apart from people w/inordinate attachment to the late 90s slim shady era i guess
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:09 (fifteen years ago)
johnny good songs aren't "garbage" fyi
― fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:09 (fifteen years ago)
there must be a "stupid girls" joke to be made here but i can't quite see it
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:10 (fifteen years ago)
I'm not calling anything garbage, people! It was a term that was brought up by other people...

ha yeah reading everyone's incorrect reactions to a few of the songs prior and then go "finally, this is great! nicki minaj! too bad about eminem" was u_u
then i think the next song was a slowed-down justin beiber song
― fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:10 (fifteen years ago)
I guess quotation marks are still a necessity?
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:11 (fifteen years ago)
i actually think there;s way less "garbage" this year than there usually is - sure a bunch of stuff i'm bored by or not into, but the only acts i find hateful are vampire weekend (and we've argued them out), ke$ha and gayngs.
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:12 (fifteen years ago)
I'm not calling anything garbage, people!
(though I still think "Smang It" is of suspect quality)
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:12 (fifteen years ago)
yeah too bad eminem can't work up the skills to go "hang it up [enormous pause] flatscreen [enormous pause] plasma."

yeah i'm just saying that ceding that ground to ppl who think what you like is garbage is a bad look

semantics war #9,637
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:14 (fifteen years ago)
eminem completely falls off the beat midway through his otherwise great first verse by trying to cram too many words in, the "two pees and a tripod" punchline is lamentable and his second verse is blah. nicki is turned fully ON for every second she's on the mic and sounds completely demented, just hurling words at the beat like they're spears. it's one of those "absolutely no contest" comparisons in her favour.
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:14 (fifteen years ago)
poor eminem was too busy constructing all his completely bonkers assonance on that track to be bothered with lowest comment denominator hashtag pun-puke that passed for "rapping" in 2010... Sorry dude, YOU LOST THIS ROUND
― when the president talks to based god (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:15 (fifteen years ago)
eminem's verse is terrible & he sounds like a creep on that track
― challopian youtubes (deej), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:19 (fifteen years ago)
I think most of the ppl on the thread were just annoyed by Eminem still doing his angry asshole schtick +10 years down the line
― some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:19 (fifteen years ago)
its not his 'technique' that is at issue whiney. if it were, then his most recent album would be aoty quality
just hurling words at the beat
that is pretty an accurate description of Nicki's rapping on that track
― when the president talks to based god (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:20 (fifteen years ago)
"Slim Shady's here? ...awesome."
― some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:20 (fifteen years ago)
his voice sounds mad creepy on that song im not a huge minaj fan or anything cuz i dont dig that underline punchline style but its at least reasonably novel & has some energy, em is like a black hole of not getting the tone of pop music in 2010
― challopian youtubes (deej), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:20 (fifteen years ago)
yeah em's two #1 singles this year really dont get the tone of pop music in 2010
― when the president talks to based god (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:22 (fifteen years ago)
I'm just tired of his voice altogether. Was glad when I wasn't hearing it for a while, and then it came back and was all over the damn place.

they really do sound out of step w/ the rest of the charts it is true
― challopian youtubes (deej), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:23 (fifteen years ago)
he sounds constantly aggrieved and angry
just in terms of imagination, nicki's way out in front. the way she plays with her voice, especially her outraged vibrato on "dusty-ass filaaas, leviiiis, raggedy-ass holes in your knee-hiiiighs" >>>>>>> eminem's assonance

― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:25 (fifteen years ago)
anyway i was initially on the "great eminem raps, too bad about nicki" train, but nahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i still fuck w/ em on that track, but nicki eats his brains
her second verse is pretty much the perfect distillation of her rapping style, it's like the polar opposite of "bedrock"
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:26 (fifteen years ago)
ridiculous
― when the president talks to based god (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:26 (fifteen years ago)

& yeah i do think that triple grocery bagging is novel in a way that transcends the second grade-level construction of your typical grocery bagging into something that's like borderline impressionist

Oh god, all the sudden I feel 90 years old.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:29 (fifteen years ago)
imo grocery bag isnt an inherently bad technique, every rapper slips them in, its the idea that an entire rapper's career can ride that gimmick that makes it unbearable (im starting to wish Drake would stick w/ that instead of the postmodern 'slow burners' hes been into since ... SQUARE ROOT OF BLOWJOBS
― challopian youtubes (deej), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:29 (fifteen years ago)
lol JF http://www.facebook.com/pages/If-you-lovedknew-Eminem-before-not-afraid-or-love-the-way-you-lie/153893614638489
nicki on that song doesn't remind me as much of drake anymore as like something in the spirit of the most obtuse mystikal flows or something
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:30 (fifteen years ago)
yeah - stacking mumbling/cackling/panicking on top of each other like that gives it a real lunatic asylum feel, then shunting the action so unexpectedly into religious territory with overseas/church/vatican lends it an extra sinister edge - like nicki's playing the demons in her foes' heads
― lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:30 (fifteen years ago)
dude eminem broke when i was 12 -- who the fuck you think was buying his shit?
― wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 22:31 (fifteen years ago)
tho i'll admit to being ignorant of moby circa "without me" outside of his mtv cribs
eminem has seemed p corny to me since white america
