Gayngs is str8 bullshit but that track is fucking awesome

also was really happy to see deadboy show up -- really a novel idea there: take drake outta the drake -- i like that dude found one dope loop & just rides it out

also i said this in some thread (i think it was WUT) that the firework sounds at the beginning/end of the track, despite being a. a pretty obv tactic and b. taken right from the OG drake track, are a great effect -- there's something emotional & poignant about it when combined w/ the re-work

this kind of bothers me for the same reason Mark McGuire's field recordings of his 5-year-old birfday parties bother me. its a dirty trick using nostalgia to pull our heartstrings

did you like "adventureland" -- the firework part in that remix hits that same note for me

oh also, "telephone" is pretty good but "alejandro" is ten times better

yeah i gotta say one of the more disappointing things for me at EOY time this year was seeing "Telephone" so totally eclipse "Alejandro" in most lists and polls

starting to thing that im the most ilx hivemind person, i only hadnt heard two of these before. of these i hate one and like the other a lot.

that said a lot of this is meh to ugh for me

re: Gayngs -- I just realized a few days ago that Faded High is probably my favorite track on the album, but it's also the least "throwback" song. It's really hard to pull apart, though, as it's one of the (very) few albums I've heard in a long time that sustains its quality for the duration.

i mean, beach house, eff that, i never would have been fucking with it, but like kesha & t cruz, ehh

there's always a lot of garbage on here, ilx lists are great relatively speaking but no wide-reaching poll is ever garbage-free

I'd just like to point out re: Gayngs that I'm not a typical Bon Iver/Grizzly Bear stan. I just think it scratches an itch I had last year.

I agree about the garbage factor on this list, but I also want to make it completely clear that I'm totally in awe of Jordan and Johnny, et al., for putting so much work into this.

As much as I have complained about certain tracks, I'm not trying to call anyone's taste into question. If anything, I'm mostly wondering why I have such a hard time liking more of this stuff (answer: old age).

Problem with gayngs album is that first track is so perfect and then everything after is so deliberately diffuse that it feels like more of a drop-off than it is. Tunes like "crystal rope" are pretty dope when you get to know them. Don't like "last prom" though.

I think most people who champion garbage are, at least, secretly aware and, at most, very aware that said garbage is actually garbage. "We R Who We R" was one of my favorite singles of 2010, and I know it's bad and I know a year from now I may not ever listen to it anymore...but for the tail end of 2010, I was listening to it non-stop.

"Last Prom" came up on my iPod several times lately, think hit next about halfway through each time.
