challopian youtubes (deej), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:27 (fifteen years ago)

sort of feel u don't really need to have an opinion on gaga because lots of other people have opinions and some of them are probably right, so the sum of human wisdom is not really advanced by someone who doesn't care that much about gaga feeling obliged to formulate an opinion, especially if they have to exagerrate its valency in an attempt to make it more of a talking point

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:28 (fifteen years ago)

applies to most other popstars of gaga level

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:28 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, there's a lot of participation in this thread, but if everyone who actually voted was here to talk about their votes, we'd be up to 6,000 posts by now. xps

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:28 (fifteen years ago)

multiple appearances:

taylor swift (3 - fever tay)
rihanna (2 - once as lead artist + featured on "all of the lights")
cassie (2 - once as lead artist + sampled on "love cry")
alicia keys (2 - featured on "fireworks" and "all of the lights", even if uncredited here)

also, two separate artists who use $ instead of s in their names

xp - Participation is good though! And people bringing opposing opinions to the board, as long as they don't start shouting at each other.

Glenroe in 3D (seandalai), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:31 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, I agree. Re-reading my post, it sounds like I was discouraging more posting. I wasn't. I'd love if this thread had 6,000 posts right now.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:32 (fifteen years ago)

don't forget drake in multiple appearances!

jk

teledyldonix, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:32 (fifteen years ago)

thread has about as much traffic as feasible before every post requires six xposts before sending and nobody reads any of them

normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

everything i liked id already heard except for the knife but that was only okay

plax (ico), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:44 (fifteen years ago)

sorry if this has already been talked about but didn't ILX play a huge part in making the bieber slowed down 800% thing go viral?

gr8080, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

don't think so

it got a bit of coverage in the ile jbiebz thread, but it was already a story iirc

had 2m+ views/dls on soundcloud before it was taken offline

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

I'm going to dig into the tracks I haven't heard yet when I get home tonight, but I'm surprised how nothing I've voted for has shown up yet!

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

xpost: iirc max posted it to gawker before most other blogs had?

gr8080, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 20:54 (fifteen years ago)

seems to have been posted to reddit before max' gawker post

nice to think max probably helped (as well as getting my streetview glitch discovery into the wall street journal's religion column) but i'd guess it was going viral anyway

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:00 (fifteen years ago)

reddit and 4chan are the origin of most viral happenings these days

When I started the ILE thread on Ted Williams, it was just because one of my friends from Columbus had posted the youtube in my facebook feed. I didn't realize until an hour or so later that it was big doings.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:03 (fifteen years ago)

cunga posted it to ILX 1 day before reddit RIP Justin Bieber

i remember cunga saying his friend made it? but i cant find the post

gr8080, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:05 (fifteen years ago)

"All of the Lights"? you fucking chumps.

trv kvnt (some dude), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:10 (fifteen years ago)

trv kvnt (some dude), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:20 (fifteen years ago)

xpost: yeah that's prob why.

gr8080, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:20 (fifteen years ago)

Love that song, but that's the least intriguing screencap of the video.

― Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Tuesday, January 25, 2011 2:35 PM (1 hour ago) Bookmark

ha, yeah -- hon i liked the screncap a lot cuz of the colors/"come with me" part at the bottom, but i feel you -- had to keep it SFW

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:28 (fifteen years ago)

Thought for a second you were calling me "hon."

Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:30 (fifteen years ago)

yeah me too lol

fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:30 (fifteen years ago)

ditto

ullr saves (gbx), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:31 (fifteen years ago)

to answer nakh's question, and generally any that y'all might have wrt the screencaps

if the song had an official video, i took a cap from that (two exceptions so far iirc are the fives which i didn't realize even had a video & beach house which had a bad chillwavey video w/o the two in it) & secondly if the artist appears in the video, i tried to make a point to include the artist (w/ a few of them i think, like the gil scott heron one, i just liked something else in the video or the parts w/ the artist were boring) -- if there was no video or if the video was done in a way that made it hard to fit all the text in, i grabbed a photo off flickr or something

w/ the el guincho one i wanted to include him in it but his parts were either boring/didn't leave enough room for text so i just went w/ the globe one cuz it had lots of space + i thought it was cool

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:32 (fifteen years ago)

love your graphics work, shug

omar little, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:34 (fifteen years ago)

cosign

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:35 (fifteen years ago)

anyway i liked today's results

re gayngs, i don't think that lex has it right about them -- maybe there are ppl that praise them for being r&b w/o praising 'real' r&b but a. i don't think it's THAT r&B (reminds me more, moodwise, of like quiet village) & also i think that the guys in the band have a sincere admiration for the kinda music that they're doing there

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:35 (fifteen years ago)

i can't decide whether to assume the character of dale gribble or john redcorn here

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:35 (fifteen years ago)

i thought for a second you were calling him "shrug."

fruit of the goon (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:36 (fifteen years ago)

i think the hot chip album is very underrated & i think it's their best & it gets me emotionally quite often, but i don't think "one life stand" is the best track from it

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:37 (fifteen years ago)

Gayngs is str8 bullshit but that track is fucking awesome

gr8080, Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:39 (fifteen years ago)

also was really happy to see deadboy show up -- really a novel idea there: take drake outta the drake -- i like that dude found one dope loop & just rides it out

also i said this in some thread (i think it was WUT) that the firework sounds at the beginning/end of the track, despite being a. a pretty obv tactic and b. taken right from the OG drake track, are a great effect -- there's something emotional & poignant about it when combined w/ the re-work

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:40 (fifteen years ago)

xp to gr80 ^^^basically how i break it down 2 an extent

i like that one tim posted about too ok

challopian youtubes (deej), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:40 (fifteen years ago)

"cry" is awesome

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:41 (fifteen years ago)

this kind of bothers me for the same reason Mark McGuire's field recordings of his 5-year-old birfday parties bother me. its a dirty trick using nostalgia to pull our heartstrings

when the president talks to based god (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:42 (fifteen years ago)

did you like "adventureland" -- the firework part in that remix hits that same note for me

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:45 (fifteen years ago)

oh also, "telephone" is pretty good but "alejandro" is ten times better

wee-based god (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:45 (fifteen years ago)

actually...

some hills are never seen (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:46 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i gotta say one of the more disappointing things for me at EOY time this year was seeing "Telephone" so totally eclipse "Alejandro" in most lists and polls

trv kvnt (some dude), Tuesday, 25 January 2011 21:48 (fifteen years ago)

starting to thing that im the most ilx hivemind person, i only hadnt heard two of these before. of these i hate one and like the other a lot.
